It depends on the room and I get what Andrew says about the slight imprecise but more enveloping sound. I heard a mostly dedicated Atmos demos in a shop using down-firing speakers high up on the wall and it was nice. But with the same Atmos demo I felt my up-firing system sounded a little better. However it took a while before I was able to get it right.

I am using upfiring speakers from Pioneer which I think was designed by Andrew Jones. It works fine. I don't have a dedicated room for my home theater. I can't drill holes and put all kind of ceiling speakers on top. So I have to settle on upfiring speakers.

Nobody is forced to resort to upfiring speakers. Did you at least make any attempt to have them on the ceiling where they belong and are designed for? Do not respond with the i cant bullshit. Use wooden lpostsin the room and mount speakers to that is the best alternative option.

I placed the Pioneer atmos modules overhead using industrial velcro..huge difference compared to when they were on top of the towers and preferably better than front heights on the front wall.

My experience was that upfiring works way better than 'internet wisdom', at least in my small HT room (also 8 foot high). I went to all ceiling mount and that had more detail but it didn't sound right. But then I went to upward firing rear and ceiling mounted front and it's the best- detail up front but diffuse from behind and above Sounds very realistic.

I have Polk upfiring speakers xt90 I have 7 and 8 ft ceiling the 7ft if more like an upside down step Then 90 percent is 8ft high will up firing work better then in ceiling for that room I can only do 2 speakers atmos 5.1 .2 ty 4800h avr

Have 4 Elac TS3000 Atmos speakers that Andrev Jones made when he was at Elac, they work super well in my setup👍🏻

I unsubscribed but now I've resubscribed based on this interview. Having a look through the channel it seems to have the balance back to how it was when it was SpareChange. No issue with the high end stuff even though I'm never going to buy it. But SL became more of a manufacturer shop front rather than a mid to high end consumer channel like SpareChange. I'm glad to be a subscriber again :)
