Ive been thru so many organizing systems over the years. I used to do a numbering system like old-school classical composers... But if you delete a track, there is a gap in the numbering that makes you think you lost something. Then I did dates like Sikky, but the drawback is I have no idea what the sound, style, texture, or context is. Furthermore, computers already have the date so I can just use "last modified" or "created." which brings me to my current system: style/context/vibe, plus a number, OR random letters BECAUSE my eyes will subconsciously remember the shape of the combination of letters "sadtrap5" plus ill know what the vibe is. When i cross-reference that with the date, I have a really good idea what song it is. If I don't remember, I still get close to what I'm looking for when an artist asks for that "roddy rich vibe bro." HAPPY ORGANIZING BROS!!

I was on board till he started naming his beats with dates intstead of great descriptive names such as "hip hop 1", "R&B2" or my personal favourate: "aaaaaaaa"😂😂

A pro-tip for others! People get annoyed that the US uses MM/DD/YYYY format for dates (as compared to DD/MM/YYYYY). However using a modified reverse date format is really convenient. YYYY/MM or YYYY/MM/DD is a great way to name your work. This way, all your beats are automatically arranged alphabetically/numerically. (Think about it) Since I make around 5 beats a month, i simply stick to "201906 Chill Saxophone Sample, Na Na Na Dum". However, if you are a productive producer ie 5+ beats a week, you can use "20201217 Boom Bap, Bollywood Sample" (i.e. YYYYMMDD)
@miguelsandremusic3 жыл бұрын
I started doing this, but I believe I’ll go fresh with 2021. Organizing all previous Beats is a lot lol. I’m also saving unique folder per project so that way all “make unique” audio clips, recordings or consolidations are saved within a folder per project. Logic and Ableton do this automatically, soooo since FL doesn’t do it yet, I do it manually per project so that I don’t have to make all of them afterwards.
@ruleset Жыл бұрын
wow, labeling projects by date seems very out of the ordinary, if you remember which project is which that's good, after about 8 years I still come up with the name for the project on the spot, sometimes the track name, sometimes something random like nicedaytoday1 and I always know which project is which when I go search for it if it's special enough to me :) good video
@bazejkaczmarek82712 жыл бұрын
One thing that's helped me a lot with cleaning up the mess is a free tool called Bulk Rename Utility for windows. I wish I googled it earlier, I used to spend hours manually naming and renaming batches of recorded/sliced samples while this thing can instantly change your entire file naming conventions, fix errors, add prefixes, suffixes etc. Works with folders as well - highly recommended. Win 10 does have batch rename function built in but I think it lacks any kind of interface so you have to type commands manually. not sure about win 11
@1sredna3 жыл бұрын
I don't think I could ever name beats with dates. It's so nice to just be able to ask an artist "what beat did you use?"... "oh i used the LEGENDS beat". Else it becomes like a question the artist can't answer imo. Also when I give my beats unique names I know exactly what to look for, I know exactly what folder it's in etc. Dates would be confusing to me. I do see how it makes organizing easier tho! Good video

I used to enjoy having all my drum folders organised. but as time went by I found that when I don't know which sound I am looking for is when I make my best music, not to mention having to open and close folders makes me lazy xD. Recently I came across XO ( it scans all your drums and puts them as stars in a virtual universe and colors them by type red for kicks blue for snares etc...) having all my drums layed out in one small area and being able to cycle through them all with just 1 click really improved my workflow and sound selection drasticaly. But I agree that having your files (flps, mp3s, stems...) organised is a must and I organise them exactly as you do lol .

Do you organize as you go? Do you collect then spend a day organizing? Do you delete anything you think isn't your style and don't intend on using? Do you delete duplicates like, some packs clearly have the same "metro booming open hat" one is dry, one is pitched, one is panned, one is filtered, etc. Love this vid!

Generally speaking I’ll do this once every few months. My personal stash has sounds from a ton of paid kits. Including all the record sounds. At this point the kit is extremely organized man. Every snare that sounds the same as another is named the same. Imagine 100 spinz 808s in a folder, spectated into short and long. I’m very proud of it. My friend RELIK helped me set it up🤓
@Taylor370z Жыл бұрын
@@SIKKYBEATS For sure. I'm currently organizing and playing all your vids (recently discovered looking for Coop The Truth or Nami style loop tutorial), I had some similar organizing like, short, long 808, soft, hard kicks etc. But you gave me some other ideas that im gonna implement so TY!

Oh, when you are bouncing out files as stems to be sent out, FL studio automatically makes a file of the whole mix as well. So if you mix has 10 tracks. FL studio will give you 11 files.

The problem is with these names being Soo unique it makes it kinda harder unless u like still pretty new to this. If u got 700 pre made beatz n u wanna date label em (no name) what does it really do? That's the question cu alot of professionals do the dating thing but what does it really do, really?
@SIKKYBEATS3 жыл бұрын
It comes from a workflow perspective. When I send anything out I will add a unique name to the mp3 being sent out, but will keep the date so I can reference back to it should changes be requested. Additionally project are all bounced and placed in a folder so I can listen to them should I need to check a beat before I spend valuable time waiting for sessions to open.
