It's a shame that most people think that the WW2 genre is overdone. WW2 in MoH isn't overdone, what is overdone is the Normandy campaign. There are plenty of battles/campaigns that they can explore in WW2. Maybe a MoH game set in Vietnam could do perfectly well or in the Pacific Theatre. MoH is a series from the American perspective, so maybe they can explore other conflicts that the USA participated in. Still, a MoH in WW2 is what made this series special because it reminded us of TV films like Saving Private Ryan.

@joethealternativegamer3935 yeah. There are plenty of campaigns to explore in ww2. The genre isn't dead they just have to think outside the box. They can go back to normandy, too, but they must bring innovations to the gameplay mechanics.

I've been saying this since about 2003. FPS games have covered about 10% of WW2, but they just go back to that 10% over and over again. They need to branch out far more than that. Follow the combat flight sims and explore wider areas of the conflict
@christianrowbotham738610 күн бұрын
@_Braised I think they go back to that 10% because Normandy it's the most important US campaign in WW2, and while it is widely covered in American films, it's a very popular battle, which I agree with. But there are plenty more unseen battles.

Medal of Honor: Frontline was the first game to move me to tears when playing the Arnhem Knights level. I was a teenager back then with a burning interest in WW2 history, and the presentation of that level really hammered home the human cost of the conflict. The spectacle of the ruined city, the savage close quarters fighting, desperately trying in vain to keep my British allies alive, the achingly beautiful choral music (Michael Giacchino is a legendary composer), it all came together to profoundly move me in a way that has only been matched by the Brothers in Arms games (another fantastic WW2 FPS series) and Halo: Reach.

In my opinion the reason why these games weren't made anymore was (a) An oversaturation in the video game market of games set in World War 2. (b) The end of the war on terror. I think the war on terror and subsequent wars in the Middle East have shattered the 'good guy' image of the United States and the Western Allies in general. Abu Ghraib torture scandal, the heavy civilian casualties and overall huge cost spent for absolutely no gain has made the public look at the US military differently.

I feel like allied assault gets all the attention (at least it did for the longest time) for basically being a prototype for the call of duty franchise and therefore probably being the most influential first person shooter other than Doom; but after revisiting both I think the first two MOH games and Frontline, and to a lesser extent Rising Sun and Airborne best exemplify what made the series special. The visual style, the way the movement and shooting feels (somewhat fast and arcadey,, but still with a fairly deliberate pace and a tone that always remains strikes a wonderful balance between authenticity and a bombastic adventure movie like indiana jones (definitely the spielberg influence and phenomenal soundtrack playing a part there) and most importantly the mission design itself is what really sets the games apart. They are unashamedly video games, they don't shy away from having shooting gallery sections, health pickups etc. and prioritizing memorable gameplay set pieces over narrative. I also think theres still a ton of room to innovate and introduce new ideas into a potential follow up while still being a fun throwback to the older games (although super faithful remakes of the first three games would be really cool if done well and i'd gladly play them), I personally wouldn't mind a somewhat darker tone/M rating as long as it doesn't conflict with the games themes and atmosphere, but i can see how that might be tricky to navigate. Something about a bloodless war shooter just feels silly to me, although it admittedly works well for the older games I doubt we'll get another official game like this anytime soon, but there's definitely an untapped niche there for any indie dev talented enough to take up the mantle. If something like that came out on PSN id buy it in a heartbeat

I don't remember much of Frontline or even Rising Sun, since I'm more of a PC player, but the series as a whole definitely keeps a warm spot in one's heart. While MoH didn't succeed as CoD or even BF, there's no doubt that the potential can be revived, even if it means remastering/remaking the older titles. Who wouldn't want a remastered version of MoHAA? I read a comment by a user who suggested that just by taking the idea of MoH and implementing it in different story arcs and gameplay styles than the ones that were regurgitated over and over (like Normandy and North Africa), then MoH could, arguably, hit the spotlight again. The music and gameplay is that distinct that in the Normandy museums they use it. MOH music was Almost like hans zimmer with COD. The closest we have is hell let loose and that’s a MMO. EA ended it because they concentrated on modern day which was decent tbh but it was trying to be battlefield and the last one flopped. Just needs to go back to WW2.Another one is brothers in arms but again back to the originals.

Frontline was the all around best MOH, the last game I played that gave me this same feel was Battlefield 1, based on actual battles that occurred during the conflict, the best one they ever did, weapons specifically only to that time period. A lot of people don’t want that tho, they want todays technology, red dots, night vision scopes ect.

I'm sure they will only do it for subscriptions only like Sony's ps plus. I hate it. Just let us pay and play old classics on the ps store. Sure it's free and all but what if you have a lot of streaming services and can't afford another. And don't have enough to buy a PS1 or a PS3. And I just hate the fact that you have to pay subscription just to play multiplayer games you already bought. It's one the reasons why I play PS3 games.

Much as I would love me some more WW2 shooters, even the oversentimental MOH series- you're not going to be able to convince anyone to fund a fully fledged WW2 FPS that is singleplayer only. Publishers simply aren't going to take that kind of a risk. Hell even doing WW2 shooting in general is a big enough risk for them these days. But with no multiplayer either? Nup- never going to happen.
