Deep dive into one of Ouran High School Host Club’s most background characters with the most important lesson a fan took from the show about being free to live your life to your limits rather than by others. Kyoya Ootari is not one of my favorite Ouran characters, but his episode “And So Kyoya Met Him” was the one that left its mark on me the most.
Also had to do this because of course another year goes by without a continuation or signs of Ouran Season 2 on its anniversary...

Something that is also just a little fun to note: Kyoya is shown to be reading two books by Osamu Dazai (The Setting Sun and No Longer Human). These two books are actually used in a very subtle way to convey certain ideas that will be connected to in the episode. The Setting Sun touches upon the decline of Aristocracy and No Longer Human deals with the idea of feeling distanced from society/other people and also features a very distanced father figure. It's a little anime-only feature that is just very neat!

"so many of us are so scared to find out what we can or will paint without a frame; how small or how big would our picture be if we just let our brushes fly?" this has me genuinely in shambles omg

This totally made me remember just how fascinating a lot of the characters in OURAN are, and just how amazing their development is, all be it in the brief episodes of the anime but also counting the manga. Whenever getting into conversations with other fans of the show and being asked which was my favorite host my thoughts always gravitated to Kyoya and Haruhi, looking back it’s because just how much their stories resonated with me and the comfort they gave me. Seeing and hearing you speak so passionately about him actually brought me to tears. I relate basically frame by frame with Kyoya's story, and just everything about this made me so emotional, bravo sir.

😇 THank you so much Phinix. I'm glad it resonated with you that much. Kyoya's story is the one that stuck with me the most in Ouran other than perhaps Tamaki's hence this video that'll hopefully be the 2nd in the Lessons From Anime series. If any of the members I related with most actually then I think it's probably more like Honey's, but just don't find it as deep of a story to tell.

I feel like at some point in the manga Kyoya realizes that the host club meant more to him than anything else and it’s just such a beautiful moment 😭 I love his character (minus the beach ep ofc) with my entire soul

i think this was alluded to in the finale of the show, when Yuzuru Suoh and Yoshio Ootori were talking about the Tonnere's failed acquisition of the Ootori medical company. Yoshio said something along the lines of "He's found it." then something along the lines of 'Something more important to him than xyz.' (I just got the manga and am very excited to see him realize this)

Happy Anniversary to one of my all time favorite anime’s. I almost wanted to make this about Tamaki but that may be a video for another time. Hell I could break down each of these characters

Kyoya is one of my favourite anime characters! Thanks for making this! Edit after watching: This video brought up a bunch of emotions in me. I haven't been having the greatest time recently, so this was something I really needed to hear. I think it's about time I rewatch Ouran.

Heck yeah Ethan. Rewatch it on streaming services to let Funimation know we still want more. I'm glad you had a deep reaction to this. I purposefully hoped to get folks thinking with this just as I did with Mirio from My Hero Academia. This and that video might be the beginning of a new series on the channel titled "Lessons From Anime".

Ouran is the only anime i HAVE to watch with eng dub bc the voices are just soo good. so it the sub clup u put threw me off so bad lol
@westsideotaku1555
@westsideotaku1555 2 жыл бұрын
I watched a few episodes with Patrons last night and they said the same thing xD The main reason I did (even tho I too prefer the dub) is to hopefully not put off those that haven't seen the show since there's a dumb stigma folks have against dubs for anime. Otherwise if only made for Ouran fans then we all pretty much agree how damn great the dub is.

Honestly, a something that may be obvious about this show but may not exactly click in in people's mind, is the importance of club Because some people may be limited in friendship by their parents Some by their study A club is a time where you kinda break free from that Kyoya had to befriend tamaki with the company in mind But the club gave him a space where he could be himself The club let him have friend he may would not have had if it didn't happen What's shown usually with those character is they're put in school president group, the one where they have to keep their facade even more and do not really have time for themselves But yeah In bref Please let kids be kids, let kids discover themselves instead of forging them into what you want If you are afraid they might keep a facade because of you, clubs are a good way to turn it down, and let the kid choose which one

....I....I....I just....This was the comment. Thank you so much for it. It's true, the club itself really was a big part of it as well and you kind of reminded me of the importance of clubs as well with how people can express themselves in a certain aspect, but this one was pretty much about having a good time.

Great video! I watched this anime a long time ago and now you've made me want to rewatch it again. In my mind, I remembered it as being more goofy and funny, but had forgotten about the more serious and impactful scenes. I wish they'd continued working on the anime adaptation.

Most of it is from "And So Kyoya Met Him" which is episode 24, but the rest of the b-roll was indeed from the rest of the series. Really between like 5 or 6 different episodes.
