I learned to read playing Dragon Warrior 1-3. When I was a kid, my parents bought me Dragon Warrior 3 and a GameBoy Color, and I was hooked. It was so immersive. I was addicted to grinding for monster medals, trying to impress a random npc in a random well. And funnily, my mother bought a used truck and in the back seat was Dragon Warrior 1 & 2 lodged between the seat and floorboard. I can't wait to play this remake tomorrow after I get off work.

Same for my best friend and I. Only it was Final Fantasy. I didn’t play my first DQ until VIII. I signed up for a demo and it blew me away. I shared it with friends. The one disc created five lifelong Dragon Quest fans.

The very first JRPG I played was Dragon Warrior for the original NES. I spent so much time playing that game because it was so unique compared to any other video game I had played at that point in my young life. Dragon Warrior/Quest is the game that started my love for JRPGs and I've never waivered in my love for the genre to this day.

Great video Clayton!! Thanks so much. I played Dragon Warrior III on the Game Boy Color (on my Analog Pocket) earlier in the year. It was VERY grindy, but was a lot of fun. I especially like the character that builds up the town and then goes rogue and they have to lock him up. That was funny. I'll definitely have to pick it up for the Switch, but may wait a while to play it.

I always save a special game to play during christmas time because I know it’s going to bring me a nice, warm, cozy feeling whenever I remember it. This year’s gonna be this one, I know it’ll get grindy but I can already feel the nostalgia. Last year was Sea of Stars and it was beautiful :’)

Love your passion in this video! My first dragon quest game was the DS version of DQ4 and I loved it! I ended up grabbing 5, 6, and 7 on the DS too. This was around the time that 9 came out and I really enjoyed that one because it changed it up enough to feel fresh. I couldn't really get into the first 3 NES versions thought, it felt like a step back after playing some of the more polished entries that came after. This remake is perfect for me. I am currently playing through it and enjoying it very much! Can't wait for 1 and 2! Thanks for the video!

For what it's worth, coming from an enby fan, I think the whole type A/type B thing is redundant if it's gonna be a binary choice anyway. It just comes off as performative.

You can mix and match body types with voices so I don't think it's that binary? I think calling it "personalities" is a little confusing but the outrage over it is kind of ridiculous. I like that the character creation screen is more flexible and open-ended, letting the player make any kind of character they want. Love how you can create "old men" characters too.

Dw3 was my all time fav in the series. I played the first 4 in the late 80s early 90s. I love them all but this was my fav so to say im excited is an understatement. I love how they didnt modernize it too much you still got the castles and towns that you walk into before going into the town or castle. I love the battles and i love how they revamped the same music it really tugs at the emotions lol. My copy is supposed to be here today im pumped

Hope you enjoy it! I bought a copy for my daughter for her Switch to take portably. I've been playing on PS5 and works great. I'm sure the Switch version is not terribly processor intensive.

What are your thoughts on the censorship, I've been concerned as of late with regards to several games that have either been remastered or remade. The localization have been abysmal and top of that they hire sensitivity readers to alter certain words. It's frustrating at times because overall, I just want to enjoy games and have a bit of escapism. Been enjoying your vids looking forward to more vids.

Can’t stand the censorship. But I’m heartened to learn that game creators only added clothes to the girl sprites because of ESRB in the West. So you can blame the western ratings board for this one. But otherwise I’m appalled at censorship.

I got it as a gift from a close friend who got it from a store that has no idea what "release day" is and just sells stuff the moment it comes into stock. So, I feel conflicted - I own it, but I had sworn to not buy it due to the censorship. One thing I'm curious about is the "Lewd/Stubborn" personality trait (which has the best overall stat. gains). Did that make it in, despite nearly everything else """oBjeCtIonAblE""" being censored up the arse? I've not seen anyone comment on this yet.

Clayton to be honest I was very against this game because of the woke stuff and the artwork change . Actually you were the first one to mention that after the model a/ b stuff you can choose prince or princess so it's the same as baldurs gate 3 ,so no big problem there. As for the artwork change I can accept the '' less female skin '' stuff , it's something that se did before in ff 8 and 9 for example in the summons . I don't like it of course. BUT , what I don't like and few people mentioned is how they changed the cross in the priests . Some say they did that because Christianity is offensive !! To whom really ? I lived and worked for many years in a conservative Muslim country ,no one had an issue with Christians . So although initially I was determined not to buy the game ,now I think I will do , bit after six months when sales will not matter that much . I still want se to get a message . We play Japanese video games because apart from being good as games ,they are Japanese, whatever that means

I'm curious how they'll update DQ2, there are some pretty obtuse bits in there. Like you have to find the Sun Seal/Crest/Sigil but it's located somewhere totally random and I'm pretty sure there are no NPCs that point you to that area, so the only way you'd find it without a guide is to use your Echo Flute to search every area in the whole game.

Dragon Warrior was my first JRPG. As I recal I got it for free or a discounted price tacked onto a Nintendo Power subscription. It quickly became my favorite game. Funny you should mention the menus and equipment situation, because Final Fantasy was my next JRPG. I bought gear for my team, but I was used to Dragon Warrior's style of auto-equipping what you buy, so I also was running around getting my butt kicked because I didn't know I was not equipped with anything. As for Dragon Warrior III, that was my favorite game in the franchise.

Well, glad you like it. For me, a game with good visuals alone is no longer enough to make me buy an old game that I already own again. The controversies surrounding remakes of games these days made me WARY of any remakes now. Considering their asking price (MYR260) for this? I will not buy it. Yes, MYR260 is TOO MUCH for a peasant like me. I rather spend that amount of money on monthly necessities.

My switch copy arrived today and I been absolutely binging it. Never played DQ3 before and I am hooked. Only negative so far is on switch when exploring the towns (especially at night time) the fps drops below 30 fps and sits there in the low 20s and its a pity. Its quite chuggy in the towns. Outside in the open world and in dungeons and in combat is all perfect though. Overall loving this!

I'm definitely getting this at some point. I've never played the earliest titles in the series. I hope that parts IV, V and VI get released in some form. I managed to nab the DS version of DQ VI back in the day and I wish I had bought the rest of those remasters too, cause they're pretty expensive these days. I'm currently finishing up DQ XI S and I absolutely LOVE it. The first DQ game I played was VIII on PS2 and my mind was blown.

I currently just own a switch and saw that the switch version doesn’t not run the best and has frame rate issues. Games of that same style like Octopath traveler 2 had no issues running on the switch. I passed on Echos of wisdom for that same reason.

I've been waiting patiently for this game since it was announced 4(?) years ago for Switch. Since it's Play Anywhere on Xbox though I figured I'd grab it there. I just started an FF6 replay with the Pixel Remasters recently escaping to Xbox too but may have to pause that. Dragon Quest was always the superior RPG 😂

Nope. No one paid me for this. I'm a huge Dragon Quest fan since childhood and asked them to do an early review. I've done plenty of early reviews that I'm not impressed with and I say so. Just look at my Loop 8 review. One of the worst games I've played in years and I was super excited to play it. Total disappointment. If someone sponsors a video I'll say right out of the gate. But so far I've never done a sponsored video. Thanks for your concern.

Clayton have you noticed in the story, when the hero’s mom goes to wake you up, she uses the pronoun They? Felt so weird and triggering for me, especially when I named my character after me.

I've already bought it, but did they update they way the save or will I have to go to church to save? That's the one thing I dislike about this whole franchise. I think it's on par with Final Fantasy if not maybe surpassing it here and there, but that save system ruins it for me.
