Wow the dynamics of building a sump pump system up north are definitely different than in FL. Really glad you made this video showing how these systems work and need to be built differently when in a cold environment🥶 People will hate and say “why did you run the sump line above ground, it looks tacky” But it’s because there is a reason and a very important reason for that matter. Keep educating! 📚

This channel and techniques are light-years ahead of the 🍎 drain channel. Funny how over there you get the occasional bashing at techniques this channel does and vise versa. The more you learn and watch the more you realize this is the real place to learn how to build a good system to emulate. Professional crews and equipment, standardized system/process, proven long term results. I critique systems I see on contractors FB pages based on the high standard of builds this channel features. Most don't come close. Keep up the good work guys

This will be our eighth year on KZbin. I would like to think that our videos have been improving over the past 7 years. I try to read as many comments as I possibly can and create videos based on what the general public needs for information as well as the young contractor. Thank you for commenting and contributing. Appreciate you!

This is fantastic. Most of the content on KZbin is about catch basins and pop-ups. I'ts nice to see such a real world solution for the colder climates.

Makes total sense ! What I've always wondered is suburban Detroit subdivisions with city water and city sewer services, where is the IDEAL place to discharge sump pump water ? I assume it's storm sewer but that's buried deep and almost impossible to find and hook up to.....
Amazing video. Great work. Can't wait for the dry creek bed.

I think it can be stated unequivocally that you and the French Drain Man system has no equal...not even close. I have talked to a few landscapers here in the Northern WI area and they "Downplay" your system as over priced and not needed. WELL.... I am in the process ( putting my assets together) of putting them ALL out of business by becoming a 100% French Drain Man system installer. I have a lot of research to do before I get to crazy but.... I think this system sells itself and being a Licensed Electrician of 30 yrs who is dedicated to perfection and doing things right, this is a business model I can hopefully pass on to generations.

I have to express my sincere appreciation to guys like you and guys in south who take time out to explain the science behind these systems. Seriously thank you very much. I have a question, I live on coastline of CT, we get winters and some cold weather but not as bad as we used to. Town I live in already told me I can put in a sump pump discharge into my backyard as long as it does not become a nuisance for neighbors with no inspection. I have an above ground pipe at this point but I want to go into ground and daylight the opening about 30 feet from home right before my yard grades downward. What do you recommend for piping? I see you do it multiple ways and I like all the ways you do the work but if you could prioritize your favorite set ups. Thanks again

Thanks for the video, I watch your channel often! Q: If you cant bury it, how would the discharge be run if there was nothing but yard between the OD sump and a natural fall in the grade? Recently got an estimate for one in North Oakland county. Thanks again!

Do you have a video about getting water drained from a low spot to high spot? Basically a situation where its almost impossible to do a traditional downward slope in the drain?
I have a yard surrounded by concrete. Can i build a leach style field with a grid system and 4 pipes in the trench until I can break up and or clear out some concrete to move and daylight the water? This will only be for a year.
@FRENCHDRAINMAN6 ай бұрын
So many variables come into play when making decisions for yard drains that it's so hard to say based on the description that you gave. My initial thoughts are to cut the concrete with a rented concrete saw. Remove 18 inches of concrete. Put your system in lay the 18 inches of concrete back down, and you can continue to live your life, worry free, and keep all your concrete.

Why is there so much water at this foundation in the first place? Also.. for those who think it's ugly.. the homeowner could build some kind of wooden box around it I guess

Is it a good idea to put some kind of screened cap on the end of the discharge pipe to prevent rodents crawling in or no?
@FRENCHDRAINMAN6 ай бұрын
Birds are the problem in this case. This system has been too active. A pump system is hard to plug. If it was gravity, we would use a critter guard.

Why will my solid discharge pipe freeze if it’s constantly moving water. I’m going to a drywell and HAVE to bury it.
Robert, I love the videos and I've been subscribed for a few years as I'm always working on drainage issues on my horse farm in the hills of north central Ohio. My biggest challenge is the lot next to my barn where my horses are kept during the winter. It's terribly muddy and I'm thinking an outdoor sump pump might solve my issues but I'm not sure about the buried chamber and associated pipes being in the area where the horses will still be walking. The discharge would only have to go about 20 feet to the other side of a fence before it would then go downhill. Is it possible to send you a video of the area to get a quick opinion on whether an outdoor sump pump would work for my scenario? I already have a materials list from your website but I hesitate to spend thousands of $$ if what I'm trying to do is a bad idea.
@FRENCHDRAINMAN6 ай бұрын
I never want to put a pump system where the animals are gonna be walking. I always cut a swale to direct the water outside of the fenced-in area. Hope this helped. Thank you for watching!
