@@tariqnabe7022 It's real easy to judge when it’s not you. And until you're the one facing 20 years to life in prison, you really don’t judge or m angry about someone "snitching." The reality is, life isn't fair, and doing the “right thing” and “telling the truth” in our openly corrupt justice system often backfires… and not on the police, court officials, prosecutors or judge- on YOU. If you were Cindy and were so close to getting out, within weeks, and were suddenly faced with the choice of either testifying and taking the deal they give you OR getting charged yourself and potentially facing an additional 20-plus years, most people would choose to take the deal and testify. Everyone likes to think and brag about how they'd NEVER "snitch," especially in communities where there's a stigma around cooperating with law enforcement.. but it’s all bravado and BS. And as detectives on shows like ‘The First 48’ often point out, 99% of people talk or in your opinion and perception- “snitch” within the first few hours-usually giving away far more information than they were asked for, often implicating themselves and others. Until you're the one watching your future vanish before your eyes, it's easy to claim you'd never cooperate. In Cindy's situation, the smartest move would be to do exactly what the prosecution asks, take the deal, serve your 18 month’s on parole perfectly, and get off without any strings attached. After that, you can go public-reach out to Taystee's lawyers, the media, podcasters, KZbinrs, influencers, the Innocence Project, prison activists, and anyone else who can help expose the truth. By doing this, you can help get her case appealed without risking your freedom AND you guarantee your safety by going public with your story as well and not just to the lawyers and court- because they’d find a way to keep you quiet if they needed too but if you go public, that means people are watching them and what they do and people will know and connect you. And IF you're ever in a situation like Cindy where the police, DA, and judge are pressuring you to lie with the threat of a harsher or longer sentence, this is the correct to fight back-it’s just not immediately. Take the deal, secure your freedom, gather evidence in the mean time and then work from the outside in to appeal and set the record straight. And as far as the “snitching”, as I said, when YOUR life that’s on the line, it's a whole different ball game than just saying, "I'd NEVER do that, snitches are rats, snitches are scum and trash, snitches deserve x, y AND z." Until you're actually in that interrogation room, faced with the prospect of spending the rest of your life in prison, you can't really say what you'd do. ESPECIALLY if we're talking about gang or street crimes, refusing a deal to protect people who don’t care about you is just foolish. They won’t be there to support you afterwards -no letters, no money on your books, no help for your family etc. They'll forget about you the very second you go into prison while they're still out there completely free and likely committing similar or worse crimes, and likely just going to end up in prison, right next to you, themselves soon enough. So, why throw YOUR life away for people who wouldn’t do the same for you? And who are going to end up there anyway?? SMH this “ snitches get stitches” shit needs to stop. Our community is ridiculous 🤦🏿

The parallel between Poussey and Baxter’s crimes is startling. They were the same age, and the crimes were in the same state. She was a caught with less than half an ounce of weed and got 6 years. He committed criminal trespass, underage drinking and also smoked pot (which he admitted to officers) and he got less than a night in jail and released without charge, and was able to get a federal job as a CO. The black woman versus the white man were treated very differently in the criminal justice system.

She didn't help with the drugs: that was Cesar's business, and Aleida helped him - that scene showing them packaging drugs was exposition for Aleida's incarceration, and Daya's home life. But we never saw Daya do anything but try to care for her siblings, become an artist, have a romance with Bennett (plus sex with Mendez and a fling with Cesar), go through hell with her pregnancy, and try to find her place in prison with her mom gone. They've made a point of not telling us why Daya is there - it makes her big moment at the end of Season 4 even more powerful, when she finally cracked.

I don't remember if they revealed in the series but I read an interview where Samira Wiley says Poussey got 6 years for trespassing and having a small amount of weed on her with the "intent to sell". It's suppose to contrast with the young cop in season 4 who was blatantly caught smoking and trespassing and got a slap on the wrist.

She slept around because she was taught by her mom that she should just go along with men's advances. Notice how in scenes where she's assaulted she shuts down because she didn't understand that that is not okay. Granted her actions (killing the nurse) were wrong but she seems pretty messed up. Many have heard insensitive comments from a doctor and most don't shoot them afterwards. To me it sounds like docs was trying to make a crude joke but something about it made Tiffany snap

NewbKieran Pennsatucky became religious because she shot the lady at the clinic. Some anti-abortion protestors assumed she shot her for pro-life reasons and so they supported her during her trial. and then she converted to Catholicism but yea it's pretty ironic lol
