The game turned on that perfectly timed UCLA misdirection pass. After that, it was over. In the entire game LSU did not run one even mildly creative play. It was the complete lack of creativity, timing, innovation, trickery--whatever you want to call it on either side of the ball that made watching the game misery. The coordinators called, quite literally, a standard, pretty solid, high school football game.

No, what was surprising to watch was how badly UCLA physically mauled LSU. LSU should be able to run Les Miles offense and just out talent and out coach based on pure fundamentals of angles and leverage. Look at that run play UCLA ran where the LSU defenders took terrible angles and got mauled at the point of attack. How about the DBs getting burned. O spent too much time thinking he's a rockstar instead of a football coach.

Big time college football is such a tricky business. LSU has a great recruiting base in Louisiana essentially all to itself, but it does not guarantee success. Control of media and the university administration is another part of the equation, and Nick Saban determined that he couldn’t ever control his environment at LSU the way he wanted, so after taking a swipe at the NFL he found the perfect job for a control freak, where a winning coach is as close to a deity as mortal existence provides.

Does the luster the glimmer and the hype from the color you wear meet with the playing you do not practice to do? Does the O line and the runner hit the A-gaps time-after-time practice-after-practice OR do they see it, do it one time and go home? How many "box" practices does the qb direct a pass to the receivers? Done the first time right or not is it repeated again and again and again and again and... You are about to meet more 1-2 star players to show you the road home. This will be a repeat. They earned it.

Wow Matt really nailed it and I felt for the longest time I was the only one that felt this. Everyone I work with would think I’m crazy when I criticized Ed’s terrible ability to make good hires. Daronte Jones was the absolute worst choice out of the four that interviewed. Why did coach hire him? Because he’s from Louisiana. He makes decisions from his heart and not his head. Bo Pelini was his desperate attempt to bring back the great defense of LSU in the mid 2000’s and it backfired. As much as I hate to admit it, 2019 in large was run by a few good assistant coaches and coordinators and a few players who were leaders. Ed more or less was a front man. I’m not trying to discredit his value to the team but you’ve have past players even say his lack of intellect compared to the rest of his assistants was very obvious and the players saw that. Idk if he ever was a strong leader but we liked his swag.

LSU media ran Saban away. And the LSU media runs every good coach away. I'm suprised we've done this well over the last 20 years. Our media and negative fans sometimes do the program a disservice.
@crammons73303 жыл бұрын
Every program has as much if not much more negative fanfare than LSU imo and like you said we've done very well over past 20 years, quite possibly due to expectations being high as well as the acceptable standard at the program...if we lose those expectations then we probably lose seeing any level of success we've seen over 20 years and can quickly fall to being irrelevant most years. I was also under assumption that a ridiculous amount of $ and challenge of NFL was what swayed Saban away and even still, barely at the time as he's never seemed to be one to pay much attention or care as to what the media says....but could be mistaken
@geoffreygriffin2923 жыл бұрын
@@crammons7330 Our media drove Saban away. Our fans are the worst most of the time. Some bigtime programs haven't won Nattys in going on 20 years. We just won one. We are very negative as a fan base. Hurricane, Long trip = tired legs, new coordinators, and good UCLA team that teated this game like their Super Bowl. And we still should have won though we didn't played well. If Max hits on 2 of his missed throws we probably win the game. It's not like we lost 38 - 3. It was not as much of a blowout as the media wants you to believe. I will disagree on the comment of us not getting beat decidedly by UCLA....we were dominated the scoreboard didnt fully show it even though they put 40 on us....its the fact we've had top 3 recruiting classes every year for years now and are a respected SEC program that should be able to compete with any top ranked team anytime we're scheduled to do so...yet they blew through our O line like we were a juco team, ran through us and over us with ease and didn't even have to try to not be 1 dimensional as they had no need to worry about being stopped so didnt throw it....and that's that level of talent and competition that worked us like that...what are we going to do when it's an sec team loaded with nfl prospect talent instead lol? I guess our lineman better start juicing roids hard to even have a chance to not be flat out embarrassed. And remember MISS State everyone thought was so great and going to have an awesome season after beating us at home last seasons opener, but it was just the fact we were that bad not them being good and I feel that's dejavu here again, but do think UCLA is decent.....but even if they're good pac12 team, LSU in it's current form and talent level etc etc has and had no business ever losing that game so my point finally is I'm hoping they come together and get focused and motivated quickly as I'll be ready for O gone asap if we show no signs of improvement and learning and continually all flatter and flatter this year then that's gotta go considering the salary O is getting paid only to show a steady decline and loss of faith in the program with no hope clearly in sight then..... However, who we could realistically get that would actually be available for hire to replace him with I've no idea atm but was thinking hell they could offer Joe Brady the gig and itd be a huge upgrade in career and financial income to leave Carolina Panther's position or maybe we could see if Marcus Freeman is potentially ready for head coaching position depending on how things go this year at Notre Dame for him

Get Willie Fritz or Billy Napier. These coaches are familiar with recruits in the area.

I have to wonder if Billy Napier held off on taking the Auburn job or some of the other jobs he was offered because Woodward said something to him about replacing O.

Napier's not going anywhere, unfortunately. Honestly, it sickens me to see the team in Lafayette playing better than my beloved LSU.

Yeah, when LSU gets to five loses O will be gone.

I'm not a Coach O guy lol but damn can we play a few games this season before we start firing everyone?

If he doesn't end the season with less then 5 losses he's toast
@drknockboots223 жыл бұрын
@@THE_RYANN I agree with you on that part... I really think they hoping another off field issue happens, so they can use that excuse and fire him with cause

EVERYTHING definitely is pointing to coaching now, and instead of being a CEO with structure like Nick...he's out chasing ass! The O line lost a couple of guys, but will steady the ship, but my concern is our Linebackers, and can Max take hits and not get rattled from them because it showed me against UCLA that defense they played....EVERY team is going to play that Clemson exotic 3-3-5 with blitz and O should've known it!! O needs to go now and LSU needs to get High Freeze who would strike freaking fear in EVERYONE in the SEC with LSU offensive talent...and even Bama fans know it!! If not Hugh..then go after Kiffin next year and keep O in a recruiting position..maybe asst A.D. Hugh should be on their radar as we speak..it ain't rocket science with this one fellow fans! If he struck fear in Bama at ole piss...just imagine what he'll do with equal talent to Bama at LSU!?!? Hugh Freeze, or Lane....GEAUX TIGERS 🐅

I've been telling my boys this before 2019, he s a great recruiter but he still lost kids to Bama n Clemson that would have made LSU Dominant, Oeauxs teams are not dominant. When Vandy n Mizzou dominate your off n def fronts then you tell me what's the problem. Saban Dominant

These hires have been horrific. I agree. He was so fortunate Aranda was already on staff. Even Coach E.

if LSU loses to Mississippi state or any game before it fire coach O. And if he goes under 8-4 fire him.

You should have been on top of this when he did that crap in Tuscaloosa. Be brave and condemn when you are on top. Doesn't take much to see it now.

It reminds me of the bad'ol days of Saints football when lamenting fans would call in drunk to Buddy D's show! I think it's time to pop open that bottle, rather than have it sitting on the end of the bench!
