I've ordered 7 hens, that'll be reaching my house in July. I have an acre of land and have had a garden for years. No sense letting all of this space go to waste! From everything I've read, you don't save money, but if prices go up, you will. And more importantly, as we've learned with COVID, supply chains can be broken down very quickly and it's nice to not be so reliant on outside sources for everything.

The complaint about egg prices in my opinion is a huge show of ignorance. Let's say I want to buy the fanciest pastured organic eggs. Theyre' 7.99 per dozen. So one egg costs about 66 cents. Now walk around the store and try to find any item for 66 cents that has as much diverse nutrients and vitamins as 1 egg........ The answer is you wont!!!! In terms of nutrition, EGGS ARE THE CHEAPEST ITEM IN THE GROCERY STORE EVEN AT ELEVATED PRICES LIKE THEY ARE NOW. Price per nutrition, eggs are the cheapest item in the entire grocery store. Yet Everyones cart is filled with overpriced processed junk, but theyre whining and complaning about the price of eggs. EGGS PRICES ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. The only thing that could come close to eggs is grass fed gass finished beef when it's discounted before the sell by date, or liver. Eggs will top the list. The whning and crying about egg prices reveals how out of touch most Americans are with nutrition and actually eating real foods.
@lynwill9946 Жыл бұрын
Corporate greed only in the United States. You compare the cost to eggs throughout other countries, and there is a significant difference. In fact, the eggs in those other countries are healthier. So, America stop lying to consumers. There are plenty of eggs.

This whole dynamic is happening all over the world. It is much more severe in the US, but prices for eggs have increase by a lot. They have started to come down, but they are still high. This is not to say corporate greed hasn't increase the price more, but small farmers are not benefiting, on the contrary they are struggling to the point of bankruptcy, while big farm is making record profits. So you are technically right, but prices have gone up mainly for the shortage and then add the corporate greed on top.

There is a huge difference in NUTRITION for pastured eggs and grain fed eggs. There is multiple times more nutrition content in a pastured egg versus more exclusive grain fed eggs. For example, studies find double omega 3, 3x as much Vitamin d, and the list goes on. Eggs are the cheapest food in the grocery store on a price per nutrition basis.

Avian Flu isn't killing all those birds, the US policy of wiping out the entire flock when it is detected is what's responsible. What about letting the flu run its course and the survivors who have an immunity to the flu are left to reproduce and grow the flock. You get 2 generations in a year so it wouldn't take long to get a hold on this disease. Also, keeping smaller numbers together make for less stress on the birds.
