I wholeheartedly agree, Elden Ring OST was super special to me because of how varied it is, for example both DS3 and BB have the same type of scores because they put so much emphasis on heavy bombastic orchestra and choirs, so many of their themes feels a bit samey. but ER keeps things balanced and more interesting and unique, It has so much going on for it that every single track was immediately engraved in my head, every single encounter, whether a boss or an area, felt more special because of the distinct difference between the instrument and layers, from bombastic and grand like Godrick, or the soothing and somber like rennala or astel, to a sad yet unevitable feeling like Maliketh, the layering is genius with many secrets to spot and along with the spectacle and scenery, makes this OST among the best and most memorable in my eyes, Even the mini-bosses themes are phenomenal, despite being reused they still offer alot of diversity and emotion, Erdtree avatars are an example of that, despite not being the main scores, they still offer alot of complexity, 2 whole phases and alot of instrumental arrangement it's crazy, I still feel hyped to fight some mini-bosses just because of the music alone, they're super underrated. Also the most underrated thing about the soundtrack are the ambiance themes, they just add so much to the game and the exploration it's insane, each region and area feel like they have much more personnality than other soulsborne games for this reason, It just makes the whole world feel more alive in a good way. themes like Elphael, Leyndell, Farum Azula and Siofra river are among the best ambiances i've ever heard, probably one of the best, these areas won't feel the same without them, and part of me wishes we could've had such ambiances in past soulsborne games. It's honestly sad how many people underestimate the soundtrack as a whole, It really deserves more love than what the community gives it, hopefully it'll get even more appreciation when the DLC drops.

I think everyone loved the lack of ambient themes in most SoulsBorne areas, myself included. While a part of me does miss that, I completely agree that the ambient themes in ER are phemonal and shockingly underrated, likely for the fact that older games RARELY had them. And God knows the Souls community (or at least the vocal minority) hate change. Elphael, Leyndell and Roundtable Hold have to be my top 3. But I do love pretty much all the Legacy Dungeon themes. Roundtable Hold OST might just be my favorite Hub OST in the series. I could go on about what I love about it but just the fact that the exact same song takes on two different forms between when you first arrive at the Hold, and when it is literally burning and deserted is astonishing. While I love both of DS3's themes and how one is used when the state of the hub changes later in the game, I can't help but appreciate and cherish the fact that the Roundtable Hold pulled that off with just the same song.

BB Samy music? You dare to say the terrifying ost for blood starved beast and father gascoine is the same as the gloomy/epic ost of gehrman the first hunter or laurence the first vicar? Or they’re similar to the wondrous theme of the living failures? Or ludwig which uses horror music at the 1st phase while uses epic orchestra at the 2nd? Or the horror choirs played at the upper cathedral ward are similar to anything ever? Or the soundtrack for Mergo’s wet nurse is similar to other bosses? You elden ring fanboys are nuts. Then we have dark souls 3 which has such epic OSTs that makes elden ring look like a lego game. The community remembers themes like sister friede, slave knight gael & the abyss watchers way more than any theme in the elden ring. Why? Because in the entire elden ring there isn’t anything comparable to them and the funny thing is the elden ring sold much more than the dark souls 3. We don’t underestimate the elden ring’s ost. It’s simply not that great or to better put it: extreamly disappointing And it gets even worse when you consider the fact that the elden ring has 170 bosses many of which use the same Soundtrack which makes the soundtrack feel samy. Also the fact that the game takes 2X more to complete yet the number of great soundtracks are too low.

@@alariaaurora8456 keep that opinion to yourself then lmao. Yes DS3 and BB music are samey, 80% of the track uses heavy orchestra and choirs, this isn't an opinion it's literally a fact, majority of their tracks feel way less distinct than ER, and not in the best way. also remember that most of the main bosses in those game try to convey mostly dark, sad and/or horror arrangement and theme, which put into prespective doesn't give much variety. you're just trying so hard to dickride both of their tracks without much going on for your argument other than heavy bias lol. ER is nowhere near disappointing lmao, Who's in their right mind will hear such a heroic, menacing and somber theme like Radahn, or mystical, old and natural theme like placcidusax and maliketh then still think the "OST" is weak? literally every track has amazing complex layering and instrumental arrangement, more so than any other OST in the past, each track has more personality and feel like it tries to convey each encounter more than you'd see from other tracks, DS3 and BB theme and encounters themselves don't offer their tracks to be that different, but it still could've been better in those terms, Living Failures would've worked much better for example if it wasn't bombastic and more somber, giving the idea and lore. ER just gives a fresh experience to each boss and area, If a boss like astel was in bloodborne it would've probably had heavy orchestra and choirs which wouldn't fit nearly as much as what we have, the outerworldly music given to the boss it perfect, there is also alot of hidden secrets to the layering of the music in ER, many of the music experts will tell you more about it than the other scores of the soulsborne series which says alot. It simple gives much more flavor to the adventure. Also the track isn't "samey" because there are reused bosses, that's a normal thing, for an open world game, plus the track has over 50 different tracks, with more variety and versitility than any other. plus you're talking like the reused tracks are bad, they're a banger, you can't tell me that the Erdtree avatars or Dragons score doesn't slap. Know very well that nothing on my comment was made to make fun of any other soulsborne OST, they're almost all S+ tier in my eyes and i think they're the best in gaming in general, my reasoning is just that ER in my eyes is better. Unlike you here trying to make fun of ER ost unfairly. I've argued with a few people before about this, but atleast they used fair reasonings and arguments unlike you.

@@TheLastGame666 A) it's a comment section and comment sections are for: sharing opinions If you can't handle this simple fact then maybe don't contribute in conversations ? B) being an open world game ain't an excuse for having lots of recycled tracks and bosses. I didn't ask mr.Miyazaki to use this crappy open world design. He chose it and i hate that choice so I'll criticize it. Got any problems? Read point A again. C) I'm not going to sugar coat my words buddy. Yes in my opinion the soundtrack for some bosses like general rhadan are straight up CRAP (i wrote that in capital letters for more emphasis) Tracks for malenia, are boring generic orchestral tracks without proper rythm, godrik's track has some nice ideas to it but it's filled with loud nonesense garbage filler notes, radagon's track is straight up taken away from the main menu which is a disgrace cuz it shows how they lacked proper tracks so they had to reuse that theme in the lamest way possible. Mohg's theme was so forgettable that I don't recall any of that. The only tracks that I'll give 8 and above are: the tree sentinel's track (which is ruined by multiple re-uses so a terrible job from the team for ruining this good track), ancestral spirit, the elden beast, main menu theme, Godfrey's theme. That's all and all of them combined still can't hold a candle against Ludwig's theme alone in BB. Overall I'm extremely disappointed by the OST (and bosses) like many many many Many more members of the community and i ain't sugar coating that. You loved it? Cool But no amount of pretty words is going to save this failure for me :)

@@alariaaurora8456 1- your opinion was extremely biased and it was just trying so hard to point that out as some sort of objective standpoint, learn the difference between a valid one and whatevers yours was, music taste in general is subjective, that's why you don't see me try and put my subjective taste on the table and instead compare the tracks on a technical view to make it more fair and valid. 2- It IS an excuse, recycled tracks were always a thing in every soulsborne game, look at sekiro and their mini-bosses, literally the same fucking thing, plus there are still the main themes and ambiances that don't get reused at all? reusing a track isn't going to change it in anyway, it's still the same track that is attached to a certain boss with all it's lore, design etc, these mini tracks are still better layered and arranged and unique than like 90% of other tracks you'll find anywhere else. also neither did miyazaki ask for your stupid standpoint about his design choices, the open world was fantastic and immersive, you're literally not criticizing anything you're just blindly hating on it for the sake of the argument, you can't use the "It's my opinion" point to slide in your biased hate and takes, and even if you do i'm allowed to reply back. 3- Yeah saying that radahn theme is "CRAP" is just straight up invalid lol, from it's layering, to the story it conveys, to the amount of instruments it uses perfectly, to it's buildup and it's glorious end, literally a fantastic piece that does a perfect job at showing us who Radahn really is, and his story till it's end, even the people who find ER OST to be weak won't think of such a team to be bad in the slightest, again you're trying so hard to just blindly hate for the sake of the argument to spite others of, it's not working out tho, you're embarrassing youself. Also i really find it hilarious how you're calling these tracks "boring" and "generic" when again, 80% of BB and DS3 tracks use the same 2 musical instrument and less arrangement than normal, you literally have 0 idea how music actually work and layered and it shows, I suggest you go watch actualy music experts react to ER OST and see how they find it's creation, Malenia's theme is amazing, 1st phase keeps the momentum down and the somber feel till the 2nd phase hits to actually give a proper buildup and transition, Godrick's theme is literally just bloodborne, probably why you like it more than normal lmao. Radagon theme is symbolic, having it be a continuation and an upgrade to the main theme makes for a super memorable ending full of hype and emotions, truly giving you that sense of finaly, something that you're worm-infested brain probably can't handle, and i'm not even going to argue with the mohg theme cuz that's just straight up criminal to call it "forgettable", maybe you should get new ears if that's how you see it, barely any of the tracks in ER are forgettable because the game does a great job at giving you just enough to the encounter to make the music it's attached to memorable and distinct. 4- Ludwig's theme is literally the most overrated track in soulsborne, it's above a 9 but the way y'all dickriders make it sound like it's going to cure all your diseases once you hear it or something, It won't, it doesn't stand even close to some of the more complex and versitile themes like Gael, Aldia, Maliketh, Placcidusax or Midir, with each of these encounters offering more to the experience and feelings than what Ludwig did. 5- You do know that the vast majority of people adore this OST right? Kinda hilarious how you think that you and the vocal minority are a big part of this community, you're not, and atleast some of those in the minority do have actual valid opinions and try to put out solid arguments in the table, unlike you here clearly just trying so hard to disguise your hate as valid criticism, I'm not trying to save anything for you because you're already a lost cause and i feel sorry for you lmao. have fun listening to the same heavy bombastic shit for hours straight 😊

Finally people starting to realize it, whenever this discussion is brought up, the contenders are BB, DS3 & ER, which is fair, however IMO I think ER wins it because it has the quality AND the quantity, you may have 2 or 3 OSTs from BB & DS3 that are GOAT tier, but the rest don't invoke that same feeling, they mostly range from forgettable to great, as for ER, it has a lot of awesome banger boss OSTs (with some forgettable ones but they're far less than DS3/BB relative to how many more soundtracks ER has so it wouldn't be bothering) AND it has those 2 or 3 GOAT tiers as well like Radagon, Malenia phase 2 & Mohg, also ER tackles a lot of different themes for every main boss which can be excruciatingly hard, plus you have different ambient OSTs for each dungeon & open-world areas, Leyndell's background music is so good, previous Souls games didn't have that, but all in all, I think my best 5 boss OSTs are: Malenia, Ludwig, Radagon, Mohg & Pontiff.

The only GOAT tier OST in the elden ring belongs to the godskin apostle Extremely disappointing OST overall. Malenia’s boring 1st phase cannot be compensated with needlessly complicated 2nd phase music (which lacks rhythm) Mohg? I don’t even remember that guy’s ost. Radagon was cool but it used the same menu music. Extremely cheap move.

The reason I love Elden Ring's OST so much is because each main boss theme feels like it was carefully and exclusively curated to fit and compliment not only the fight but the CHARACTER. In BB and DS3 specifically it feels like pretty much every OST has the same dark, depressing feel to it, especially in DS3, where Yuka Kitamura composed every OST. Don't get me wrong I love her and her OSTs, but music can be very personal, so theres really only so much a single composer can do on there own. Also I need to give credit to my boy Morgott's theme. His phase 2 is honestly on par with Laurence and the emotions it evokes in me. Super underated.

When 99% of the time I’m hearing the same boring theme then the soundtrack has some huge issues because it’s not doing it’s job well: creating memorable moments When i hear the tree sentinel’s OST for 100th time in one play-through It loses the charm so fast. And nope the elden ring doesn’t even have half the amount of great OSTs as the base game BB or dark souls 3 let alone the DLC. What’s a soundtrack’s job? To create memorable moments Elden ring fails at that miserably. The ONLY soundtrack in the entire game that i would rate above 9/10 is the godskin apostle’s theme which even that music lost it’s charm by being played mutliple times in one playthrough. The generally can’t understand how people can say ER music sounds the same when DS3 and BB blends into each other way more. Abyss watchers and Friedes theme far functionally the same. Most the tracks tend to be man chanting or a somber woman singing w/ a few different types like Nameless or Deacons. Also most people always remember the big bosses tracks, the other games also had filler tracks as well and I would say ER more average tracks has way more going than others ones. Like do you guys actually remember Ancient Dragon(DS3 and DS2), Wolnir, Crystal Sages, Old demon king, Ludex/Champion Gundyr, Curserooted Greatwood, Demon Prince, Rom, Shadows, almost all chalice boss themes, 70% of the bosses in DS2. I can go on. Idk man, some yah guys REALLY need to back to these other games man cus you guys are high on nostalgia.

Demon Prince? I personally found that memorable. I haven't played the game for over a year and i can still remember it, especially the first phase. I agree on the rest, but i must admit, i kind of like Crystal Sages theme, it is such a peculiar sounding track and reminds me of DS1. Shadows of Yharnam track is very subtle and atmospheric, it suits the fight perfectly, though i get that it isn't too memorable, plus it gets reused in the chalice dungeons a ton.

Personally, Bloodborne is the best in my opinion. A solid 10/10. I LOVE CELLOS AND HORROR. But all these composers, Sakuraba, Kitamura, Saitoh, Kida, Suzuki, and much more are incredibly talented, creative, and pumped out multiple masterpieces. So pretty much all the games have a at least a 9/10 OST. Except DS2 that’s like a 6-7/10. Sakuraba and Kitamura had to work on music for poor uninspired bosses like a bunch of rats or a congregation. There are good tracks, like Nashandra, Skeleton Lords, etc, but those tracks are bogged down by really lame bosses; which is a shame, because Nashandra’s theme is really cool in my opinion.

A title that would actually work but not be extreme is "Why Elden Ring's soundtrack works so well"... but you'd need to have a degree of musical expertise to do such a video concept justice. Although I do have one huge critique of the game's OST: the credits music. This was the most disappointed a song has left me. (tl;dr it just reused old songs instead of being something new and beautiful, in a game with a lategame full of reused content). I had played Dark Souls where Nameless Song made completing the game feel amazing and just that song helped me forgive the lapses in quality in the four lord soul areas just a bit more. Then Demon's Souls 2009 has not one but two utterly amazing pieces of credits music. Sekiro's was not as masterful as those three songs, but it was great in its own right and marked the End of a Vicious Struggle. Then Elden Ring comes along, and has a mixed quality lategame, with areas that relied far too heavily on reused enemies (Farum Azula struck a good balance, as did the knights in Elphael but not its other enemies). After going through all of those ups and downs I get to Radagon, finally kill him, and then Elden Beast appears. I was completely unable to get to it to damage it before dying. Then going back in, Radagon is still there, and it's going to take a dozen or two Radagon attempts for just another chance at Elden Beast. EB isn't quite as bad on current patch; I think they made it run away less, and you can learn where it'll reappear after doing the rings attacks (opposite to where it flies up to do that, iirc), but that didn't apply for me. It only took three encounters with Elden Beast to win but I was just left dejected with the game after having to slog through Radagon dozens of times just to get to a fight I didn't understand how to do melee at all, and had low flasks to combat. Then I get Ranni's ending which I later learn was mistranslated, get a cool cutscene, and then finally I get to the credits I had waited 150 hours for... and there's phase 2 Godrick's theme. My disappointment is immeasurable, and this game is ruined. The other songs that composed the credits fit better in a concluding song but the damage was done. This very long game did not stick the landing for me on that first playthrough. As a bonus, I'll throw out the changes I would make to the Elden Beast fight I've mentioned in other comments section just to reason what could've prevented my poor experience with the final boss, assuming the changes they already made to it weren't enough. To the fight itself, the lock-on during its fire attack sucks, spinning the camera around and preventing you from running away from it properly to avoid it and get hits in. This is especially a problem for players that are up against this brand new boss for the first time and have no idea what's going on, and will have to face a different boss dozens of times just for a second attempt. The other change would be a rework of Elden Stars, to make it more engaging to dodge and prevent unavoidable damage. I love the symbolism of it being the meteor that brought the Beast to the Lands Between, along with many smaller meteors, but the actual attack sucks in the boss fight and as a player spell. Keep the symbolism intact but make it engaging to dodge. To it being back to back with Radagon, I've settled on two options which I like the best. First is having Radagon's death refill three of each flask. This would give the player an added push to fight Radagon a bunch of times, knowing they'll have just a little bit of help going into the endurance battle of Elden Beast. (Furled Fingers refill one of each flask). Second is having Radagon's death be permanent while not being a truly separate boss. If you die to Elden Beast and respawn, the fog would instead activate an alternate cutscene where the player teleports to Stone Platform with no Marika, and it cuts to the usual cutscene for Elden Beast with Radagon on the ground and you'd be put in Elden Beast's arena immediately. Then to fix the loss of the back to back fight, have a boss rush mode like in Sekiro. Other people have proposed adding Torrent, but this requires a rework to horse combat and a complete rework of the Elden Beast fight. This makes it an unrealistic change to ask for, although if done skillfully it could result in something amazing. The other is making Radagon a separate boss, with Elden Beast only appearing if you go for endings other than the four "Elden Lord" endings. All four of these changes have their own upsides and downsides, but the underlying idea is to mitigate or prevent entirely the dread that comes with needing to kill Radagon many times for each attempt at fighting Elden Beast.

What I feel like undermines Elden Ring's OSTs as standalone tracks, is that very often they are made in tandem with the gameplay in a deeper level than before. The creepiness of the atmosphere, the sudden shifts, the danger... all those components were taken into account and incorporated in the making of the music, but not the music itself. As far as tiers go most of ER's OSTs sit in a B tier, with the notable exception of Godskin Apostle being S along with Godrick's OST, and Lord's Apparition is A tier. If we were to compare DS3 and Elden Ring OST wise, I would definitely lean towards DS3, even just on base game OST alone.

You're right, the first phase is epic and dangerous in all the right ways, complete with thumping war drums and a gorgeous male choir. But the second phase opens with a bang, the rumble and scream timed perfectly with Radahn's descent. It continues on with the theme of danger while you're still reeling from what just happened. About a minute into phase 2, the song changes completely. A solo male vocalist performing a beautiful funerary rite for the greatest hero of the Lands Between. This represents Jerren, and the voices of the Redmane soldiers rise to meet him, sending off their beloved general in the way he would want. That really doesn't resonate with you at all? I only say this because his second phase theme is my favorite not just in Elden Ring, but in the series. I think it eclipses Lawrence, Ludwig, Godskins, Gael, Fortissax, and every other boss theme yet made. Well, to each their own - especially, when it comes to musical taste. To me personally, Elden Ring was a massive disappointment when it comes to music as absolute majority of songs from this game are extremely forgettable. I'm very into From Software music - I have dozens and dozens of songs saved from each game including the entire DS trilogy, Demon Souls, Bloodborn, and Sekiro but Elden Ring... despite the massive scale of the game, there were only 3 or 4 songs that caught my attention...

I feel the same, and I can't even point exactly why they don't stick. Malenia's and the last boss' songs are really good, for example.

@@saalok I think it might be because most ER songs are less "focused". They don't have some clear emotional idea in their core and feel ambient-ish due to that. They also often feel repetitive and similar to each other sometimes.

@@kaschey6145 Nah all of the games are very focused in a certain emotion for the tracks, including elden ring. It's just that the emotions expressed in the ost of elden ring are different. The characters in elden ring aren't all tragic unlike ds3 for example.

@@rigby8701 Lol, what? BB soundtrack is very distinct from the rest of From's games. Anyway, that's basically what I was talking about - perception of music is extremely subjective. Especially, when we talk about whole OST of a game instead of individual songs
