I practice sword fighting for HEMA, its just a silly cartoon fantasy in my head, but I'm just imagining a bump in the night and I come at them with this and a sword.

What is the energy transfer to the user if you're encountering 12 gauge slug or big bore rifle i.e. .458 SOCOM or .50 beowulf?
@3lsydeon
@3lsydeon 20 күн бұрын
@ironsmoke2522 I highly doubt a regular burglar will be using those types of weapons to rob you. If they had the funds to get those types of weapons to rob you, there's nothing out there to help you. It's checkmate for you.

Relatively small. The energy of a firearm projectile is no more than the energy of the recoil. It's just more concentrated in projectile form. Once it hits the shield, that energy is dispersed over a wider area so that the damage is minimal. Of course, this assumes it stops the round. We'll have to test these shields against those threats. At least the slug should be stopped.

@@bewarethegreyghost You're more likely to get an offer from Taylor Swift than to take fire from the Rigby or other exotic elephant gun type rounds. There will always be a round that can defeat any armor a human being is capable of wearing or carrying. The guiding principle for armor should be what can you effectively wear or deploy against the weapons you will actually face? The vast majority of what anyone will face is handgun rounds. 9's and .40s primarily. Not ultra-magnum cartridges fired from 10-pound revolvers with ported barrels that only guys with 20-inch biceps and orangutan size hands can wield.

I see it's listed as a "line of ballistic shields for the free man". Are there separate offerings for slaves and the indentured? 🤣 Seriously though pretty cool products. I think it's good to have a variety of options. My only quibble with a lot of the home defense strategies people talk about is that they are very heavy on tactical response rather than true security. Is having a shield and sidearm during a home invasion better than not having them? Absolutely. But it's not 1% as good as if the invader never got in in the first place. An officer I got to know and had a lot of respect for years ago told me that when you have to fire a gun, it means you've lost control of the situation. The best you can hope for is a mitigated disaster. If you get into an armed confrontation in your own home, you run the risk of hitting a family member, yourself, or the bad guy winning or leaving you disabled for life. You also run a risk of getting charged with some pretty heavy crimes if a prosecutor or jury decides you went too far. I'm not at all against arming oneself and preparing with things like shields and armor, but personally, before I spend multiple thousands on that, I'm going to first invest in reinforced doors that can't be kicked in and windows that cannot easily be breached. I'm also a big believer in what some call "gray man theory". In other words, don't flaunt wealth around. Make your place as un-interesting to burglars as possible. Security isn't, or shouldn't be just a weapon. It's a set of habits and mindset and layers. Going back to ancient times, you can see layers of security in castles. If you were a king or earl or whatever, you didn't just have one structure you lived in with an easily breached door and hope to fight the invaders in your front room. They had outer walls, inner walls, ditches and moats etc. The idea was to make invaders work for it, put them at severe disadvantage and ideally to stop them long before they can get inside.

Looks to me more like a vehicle idea, go and get my people out kind of thing
@Saintbow
@Saintbow 10 күн бұрын
What kind of vehicle do you own? Now do you own a full size spare tire, a donut, or are you going to call for help? You have that spare tire just incase you have to use it, but you hope you never have the need to use it. To use your reinforced door logic, did you upgrade your tires to the run flat tires? The reinforced door is a stop gap, it is going to nothing against someone who is armed and wants to get in. I do not want to tell my family their mom is dead because I put all my faith in a reinforced door and made my home less attractive. I do not count on "I hope" as a line of defense. In my home state, we are permitted and within our rights, to riddle any bastard with holes who comes into your home uninvited (Florida). If you're worried about friendly fire, that falls on you being a responsible adult, to take the time to train their family on what to do during a situation and who took the time to train in situational awareness. My father was a Vietnam vet and he trained us on this stuff. Such as getting small and low to mitigate any "accidents". (Under your bed, on the floor of the closet, ect) Wandering around is the fastest way to have said accident. There are avoidable accidents, but they are only avoidable if you took the time to train. That comes with the responsibility of owning a weapon. The same is to what caliber you will use in a home invasion situation. If you're firing off 12 GA slugs or 5.56 in a house of thin sheetrock... I hope you understand.

@@Saintbow I have not yet invested in run flat tires, but I do keep good tires on at all times. When I was 16, 18 years old, I'd run them till they blew and didn't mind having to change tires on the freeway in a blinding rain. In my older years I want no part of that. I have not had to get out and change a tire in 30 years as a result. I still have the knowledge and tools, but rather not use them if I can help it. If people spent some of the multiple thousands they spend on multiple firearms, armor, night vision and on and on and used that to reinforce their home, I agree it would not be a 100% guarantee. But it would be on the order of 95%. Criminals look for easy work. The only way they're going to commit to breaching a high security home is if you have some bad business with them or if they know there is something REALLY valuable inside. People who arm themselves to the teeth while having doors full of window panes and deadbolts that go maybe an inch into soft pine frames are fools.
