If my club got new owners who were willing to spend while also honoring and expanding on the club’s culture I would love it, if they try to change everything about the club, including its culture to the point where I cant recognize my club anymore, whats the point in supporting it ?

For the question at 9:11 I’m from Sabah, Malaysia. My local team has been through some dark times, only recently got promoted to the Malaysian Super League (the top flight). Our top flight has been monopolised by JDT since idk, 2013 I guess. Any half decent players who could play for our national team would be snapped away by JDT. Normally I’d be against a Red Bull takeover of a historical club like United or Liverpool, or Southampton, Leicester, or West Ham, or even clubs like Notts County or Chesterfield. But for a team like ours, in a league monopolied by a single team, in a league where some teams can’t even pay player wages, I honestly wouldn’t mind an RB Sabah (or RB Kota Kinabalu in my city). There isn’t really much to lose, and the positive impact of a multibillion company’s investment in the local sports scene outweighs the negative IMO.

I'm from Mexico Here we are used to see clubs been sold and bought like they were stickers for an album, owners they change the city they used to played and it's entire identity In the first division it happens like once every 5 years, but in lower divisions it happens literally every year I personally think that's one of the reasons our football doesn't gets better, always pursuing money over sport talent

I don't feel like writing a huge paragraph, but I can tell you that here in Germany the vast majority of football fans couldn't care less if RB Leipzig made the league more interesting or not (imo they haven't even made it more interesting anyway). I think more people would rather have Bayern win for more years than Leipzig at this point. You shouldn't underestimate how much people love their clubs, the history and the 50 + 1 rule and hate anything to do with big sponsors like Leipzig, Bayer etc. People really value the fact that in it's essence it's supposed to be a club for the people and not some marketing strategy to sell more energy drinks or whatever else. My club has been playing like shit for quite some time now, but if Red Bull came in and changed the logo and the kit and whatever else then I would straight up not be a supporter anymore. If this franchising thing is going to continue I know a lot of people will turn away from football here.

No i think a slight majority would love to see another Team win the League, even if it would be Leipzig. At least they trying to win something. Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen are doing nothing for the League. they most of the time suck if they play in the CL or even the EL. Leipzig at least reached the Semis in the CL and EL.

I don't think many people care that much about who wins the league at this point unless it's Dortmund or their club and it's very unlikely that anyone except Bayern, Dortmund and Leipzig wins it anyway. Most people are just there to support their club and don't care about the league wins. Doesn't mean nobody wants a more competetive league, but I really don't think many people would suddenly start caring if now it's just either Leipzig or Bayern every year instead of only Bayern. Since I don't think many people have lots of sympathies for either club.

Might be a discourse on this, but reciting the point from the video, RB has shown that they can produce talents for the future of the sport. From Haaland to Verstappen, they know how to develop potentials to become a star. Also, one uniqueness of RB-run clubs have compared to other clubs, is that they have established a network to transfer players without much hassle. This system saw players easily moving towards Salzburg and Leipzig, and occasionally also RBNY.

I was a youth player for Sachsen Leipzig (one of the teams shown briefly in here playing against rb). It was like the best team around and of course everyone’s dream in the team was to go pro however there was pretty much no consistent way of showing yourself to the world in east Germany as most of the cities around had 3rd ligue teams at the very best if not lower than that Therefore scouts showing up was also a bit rarer than needed When red bull came in They took on about half of my team including and it was kinda like a new hope for us players As not only did we now get way better training facilities and means of training which are to this day still proving steadily but we did also get way more of the public eye now which was much needed for eastern German football Accidents happen and I quit football a year later however with all the hate I still do have to say that Leipzig now has the best youth training Programm in all of east Germany which in turn also made the other teams around up their game when it comes to youth development which can only benefit the sport itself in the long run Also as someone who loves the city he grew up in Leipzig is one of the fastest growing cities in Germany which is great to see imo und red bull only contributed Also the heritage card doesn’t really work out here as the club that got bought out to become rb had barely a fan base and was largely unknown in the city

As a Leipzig citizen: RB has done a lot for the city. It created a ton of new jobs and made the city a lot more popular for visitors. It has brought overall more wealth to the city. Yes a lot of football fans hate RB, but they still come to see their team play and spend their money in the city. And the city really is beautiful! It has gorgeous old buildings, lots of nature and a rich history, I would advice everyone to visit. Oh and we just won our first title, exactly 10 days ago we won the DFB Pokal ( German Cup) after reaching the finale 2 times prior.

As a football fan who lives not too far from Leipzig, this is a difficult one. On one hand, I see the 50+1 rule as probably the single most valuable and positively impactful thing in regards to German club football. It's the reason why the big bosses at Bayern and Dortmund had to openly reject the Super League from basically the start of the discussion in the mainstream, it's the reason why things like ticket prices haven't gotten as much out of control as in other leagues, why fan culture doesn't get restricted or simply destroyed by corporate decision making, it's the reason why even first divison matches still feel like they're about the football and the fans and not a means to an end for some rich dudes to get richer. There's no corporate minimalism in German football symbolism, no clubs throwing decades or over a century of history away by changing their badge to something completely different because a few disconnected people at the top think that another badge would be more marketable globally. The 50+1 rule is absolutely crucial in maintaining the things that are still great about club football from a general fans perspective and seeing it being circumvented and disregarded so blatantly immediately makes you want to despise the club that resulted from that. On the other hand, you have to realise that the 50+1 rule isn't necessarily great at producing vertical mobility up and down the league structure. With outside investment being so limited, it's very easy for the big guys to stay the big guys and incredibly hard for the small guys to get to the top and stay there. We're certainly beyond the point of any sort of real parity and competitiveness at the very top of the Bundesliga, Bayern are pretty much guaranteed the title year after year, if they slip up massively, which doesn't really happen, Dortmund win it. The rest literally do not have a chance. RB Leipzig represents the only club that you could see break into that top 2 and stay there longterm. And then you have to consider where the club is located. East Germany to this day is hamstrung economically by the after effects of socialism and that certainly affected football in the region as well. After the country was reunified around 30 years ago, many major East German football clubs with rich and successful histories fell completely off the map because they were simply incapable of competing with West German clubs on a financial level. There are clubs who have been staples of European club competitions in the past who are still now struggling for survival, not because they were mismanaged, but simply because of where they were located. I believe RB Leipzig has given East Germany some relevancy back in the world of football and has revitalized the fan community to a certain degree, in more ways than one actually. Not only are some people around here, who weren't that much into football before, now getting into the sport because there's finally a club with actual status and pedigree nearby, but the fan communities of other East German clubs seem to be more engaged and growing because the existence of RB has unified them in their disapproval of the club.

Agreed and very level-headed. There’s a lot of layers on this. I saw an anti-RB Leipzig comment by a Bayern fan, because Leipzig isn’t really true to 50+1 rule, but it’s very easy to say for a Bayern fan. But at the same time, in the Austrian league Red Bull became its own Bayern where they just keep winning everything. The positive is that Austrian players have been the most developed there. Such an interesting discussion Red Bull is.

As an MLS fan when Red Bull took over the MetroStars, it was a pretty controversial change (even though the MetroStars were also a corporate owned company). While they haven't won an MLS league title since forming, they have been a pretty respectable club. Winning in MLS (and winning consistently) is really difficult because of salary expense limitations and there are playoffs to determine the ultimate winner each year. I can't speak for all MLS fans, of course, but I think there's a fair amount of respect for what they've managed to accomplish thus far. They are far more competitive year to year than some teams in the league, and that alone in an accomplishment. The Supporters' Shield is also a pretty big deal as it means you earned the most points during the season and gives you a berth into the Concacaf Champions League.

Austrian here, to be honest Red Bull is sort of a two edged sword for me: On one hand they improved our national team without a doubt (the majority of national team players have played for RB Salzburg at some point) however in my opinion at least in Austria the negative prevails. As mentioned in the video they have won almost every single league title with Austria Vienna in 2013 , Rapid Vienna in 2008 and Sturm Graz in 2011 being the only exceptions. To be honest, they sort of ruined the league! Even when the other top teams like Rapid, Austria or Sturm had some of their best seasons in years, producing top talents they still hardly managed to even challange RB Salzburg for the title. Especially in recent years RB's dominance has simply become insane. The last time they didn't win a national tournament was in 2018 and that was only the cup which they lost in a narrow 0-1 defeat against Sturm Graz who in that season had their best squad of the last ten years. My point is, yhea sure RB bring some really great players to the game but at the same time they eliminate almost every piece of excitement in the Austrian league and they would be doing the same for Germany if Bayern didn't exist.

Like you mentioned, it's not just black and white. As a German here is my take on RB: The positives first. Like you said RB did revitalize the football industry in the city and also helped eastern Germany to get a foot in the Bundesliga. But apart from that the biggest compliment I can give to RB is how efficiently they use their resources. Like you said their climb in the Bundesliga was a matter of a few years and even in the Bundesliga they managed to become a top 3 club. With Hertha BSC, who also found a big investor some years ago, we saw that money isn't enough sometimes since they didn't manage to improve their success at all despite spending hundreds of millions of Euros. RB has a great talent development and an attractive playing style which, just from a competitive point of view, is a great addition to the league since they give Dortmund a run for their money. But there are also big negative aspects to this. While they do challenge Dortmund, who also rely on talents and offensive football, it doesn't really look like they are going to reach Bayerns level in the near future. Bayern is an established Giant and even more important: very careful how they spend their money (compared to other big clubs like barca or man U). They have many world class players and only hire top coaches. For a talent based team like RB this is hard to reach even if you do a great job. But the most important criticism is of course the cultural aspect. The 50+1 rule has one reason: the people don't want to lose the clubs they identify with. The big tradition clubs in Germany like Dortmund or Frankfurt etc. get their appeal not just from success on the field but their great fan cultures. The atmosphere in the stadiums is fantastic and the so called 'ultras' are important voices inside the ranks. RB may have attracted more fans through their success but they can't be as loved and celebrated as those clubs. Also while I respect RB for their competence you cannot really call it fair what they are doing. They have established a network of clubs that helps them to get an advantage in the transfer market and because of their resources as a billion dollar company their success is inevitable from the start. To see them win the league would be a scandal for many germans and could potentially be the next step in the downfall of european football culture. The problem is that like we see in England, the clubs with the most money will eventually be the ones that come out at the top. And sooner or later other clubs will take an example when they see that it works. This could make European football as a whole more competitive but at the same time the people will no longer be part of the clubs, only outside supporters. I dont know whats better and I respect both sides of this. But somehow im kinda glad that Germany puts so much pride in their fan culture and seeing clubs like frankfurt and dortmund being followed by thousands of fans wherever they go in Europe will always be a proof that football isn't only about winning but also the people.

They also have ice hockey organizations in Salzburg and Munich. Miniature scale compared to football, but they have grown the sport in both countries. Attracting good players and creating facilities that no one else in hockey has so they are also developing local players which evolves the level aswell all the way to the NT programmes.

Great video as always, but I have to admit i missed talking about Bragantino, it's a great story on its own from a great club from the past being rescued by Red Bull in the lower divisions of the country, receiving the same backlash for changing it's badge and name, but now is a force to be reckoned with and managed to clinch a spot in this year's Copa Libertadores, just 2 years after being bought (and also, at one point, gave it a run for the Brasileirão Serie A). As someone from Leipzig, Germany I can confirm the buyout of SV Makranstädt and rebranding to RB Leipzig was just genius. Why? Simple: Leipzig has always been a mercantile hub and home to an open-minded and progressive people. Founding a club that goes against all established football traditions of the country probably wouldn't have worked anywhere else. Plus Leipzig has historically been known for its trade fairs where manufacturers and merchants from all over came to advertise and sell their goods. Isn't that kind of exactly what Red Bull founded the club for? So yeah fits like a glove. Since we locals are generally pretty open to change we welcomed the move then and have already grown attached to the club by now. Ever since RB has established itself in the top-flight we had a lot more international visitors. Visitors who spend locally and after they're gone might spread the word about our beautiful city. What more can you ask of a foreign investment really? As for the football. The team has a nice balance on and off the pitch and their play style is both nice to look at and has a solid yet flexible tactical foundation. The club's local youth development efforts are starting to bear fruit too so even the future looks bright. Attendance is high for every game (where fans are allowed on the stands) and since it's mostly newer fans the local ultras come without the hooligan baggage a lot of the more established sides in Germany never quite managed to shake. Maybe that's just the Leipziger mentality speaking but I never quite understood in the first place why to so many people tradition seems to be far more important than the football itself.

The probability of a new club without capital working its way up to the top flight is absolutely non-existent. So what's the alternative? Only established traditional clubs are allowed to play at a high level? Even if at some point they have to betray their values anyway to even have a chance at a fair competition? The difference between Man City, Paris, Barcelona and Leipzig is that the latter even though it has a big backer doesn't spend willy-nilly and tries to operate on a sensible budget. Meanwhile the former "traditional" clubs are throwing cash around like its nobody's business. Is that really preferable just because their brand is a few decades older?

As a football fan, I think RB policy is everything I despise in a sport; in football (expecially here in Europe, but also in other regions) traditions and club history are of capital importance. Cheering for a team just because it's victorious but has no relation with its city or town is awful, you are not cheering for a team at that point, you are cheering for a company. Team's name, symbol, colours should never change once established, because those are the characters who define the connection between present and past. The whole point in cheering a team is about memories, feelings, connections, history. Without those you just have a shitty company making money on your illusions.

Well the one thing positive you can say about rb Leipzig is they used a different strategy to other newly moneyed clubs. They never spend huge transfer fees perfering instead to buy in and develop young talents for their rise through the leagues. For the bundesliga I don't mind the rise of leizpig. No one else is giving Munich much of a challenge. And while Munich plays by the 50 plus 1 rule they have huge corporate partners with ownership stake. Finally they is a desire amongst the old East Germany region for a club to rise up and compete with the west especially as the Western clubs took the best players away after unification and the east German league was only given 2 teams to play in the top league

Or they signed Poulsen for 3 million while playing in the 3. Liga which is more than three Times what has been spend by a Club in the league before. The apperently positive aspect about them giving people in east germany quality football and representing them in the Bundesliga is a complete myth. First of All before they started in 2009 they tried to buy into Fortuna Düsseldorf (west germany) and 1860 München (south germany) but got rejected, which shows that they did not do this to for the people of east germany, who also probably despise RB more than everybody else because it does not represent east germany. East german clubs like Sg Dynamo Dresden, 1.FC Magdeburg, Hansa Rostock, Lokomotive Leipzig, Chemie Leipzig etc.and nowadays Union Berlin are despite not competing with the biggest are well respected for their big Fan Power and status in all of germany. For example Dynamo Dresden took 35000 people to a midweek away game 200 km away (which is only 1 example) so it is not like the region lacks passion for football. But I guess because this World of german football does not get into the eye of International audience, RB Almost seems like the New, fresh, energetic (literally) underdog from east germany, they fit the narrative of a likable underdog fighting with the big boys in germany. If I had more time I would watch more German football as it has every ingredient to be a serious competitor for global audiences with the English Premiership. But I still can't find myself disliking rb Leipzig. The main reason is I have followed football since the early 90's. In that time I have watch seen TV money from uefa destroy competition in nearly all the leagues. Turning all the leagues into 1 or 2 horse races. It's why I don't find myself disliking Newcastle, Chelsea or man City. Sure they spend stupid money but they make the league more competitive. As a german it is just that you are confronted with RB every week even though I ignore them as much as I can apart from the 2 times a year we play them. To me it just feels wrong seeing a so called german football club (even though austrian franchise would be the more accurate term) instead of a historic and interesting Club. And while one reason for the downfall of the Clubs you said is their bad management it certainly does not help that there are such financially backed clubs who are somehow a legal exveption to the 50+1 rule that take up a place in the 1. Division (clubs like that are RB, VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer Leverkusen and like you said Tsg Hoffenheim). Another point about the RB story is that I get the feeling that not only internationally but also in germany people start to accept RB and Treat them as a normal football club and call them Leipzig which I just cannot call them because it clearly doesn't represent Leipzig. About the Premier League I can just say that I sometimes watch a few games and I feel like I am entering a new football World in which only what happens on the Pitch counts and not what you represent as a Club. This also has his own beauty for me because I am not emotionally Involved and can just watch the best players managed by the best coaches but there is also one side in my head that thinks about how the Fans are treated with all the high ticket prices which affects the atmosphere negatively which for me is an important part of the game. I just dont want my league to go down a similar road and trying to Catch up with the pl in a race that we even without 50+1 realistically cannot win. You also mentioned Hoffenheim who I despite aswell especially because I support bvb and their owner Dietmar Hopp set up Hidden cameras in the away block to ban our Fans who protested against his Actions. But they are a little different than Leipzig as they actually have a little bit of a local connection because Dietmar Hopp is from there and are just his self build (financially) fifa career mode club while RB actually are 11 man, football playing/destroying advertisement for a drink. The Danger in the bigger picture of these clubs mor my league is that they increased their commercial element. At first it were Wolfsburg and Bayer, who were a conpany club of Bayer and VW, which supported them financially which Was a completely New thing back than. Then about 15 years ago Hoffenheim came and took this financial backing to a conpletely New Level and had a Single Person behind them who gained more and more Power also in german football organisations. There also was a scandal about him whem he repeatedly got called son of a bitch by all the big Fan scenes in germany and the league stopped a game because of that, while it never happened because of racist abuse before. Hopp is also actively going against ultras, who for me are the dna of a Club and the most important voices against more and more commercialization, so it is dangerous if someone like that gains to much Power. And then, the until now, final and worst Level of these clubs came with RB who just are a soulless, unhonest and dirty advertisement. It is very worrying that these clubs always reach a new Level and who is to say that RB will be the last. For me the biggest problem of the Bundesliga is not that Bayern win it every year (which is also not great and boring don't get me wrong) but rather that the league loses its identity, history and soul and because of that enjoyment with clubs like RB. Nowadays there are only 2-3 interesting games apart from bvb for me, because I just cannot enjoy watching such boring clubs who don't have a history with bad atmosphere and empty seates everywhere and just feel wrong and unemotional, no matter how well they play or how well they are run or that because of them we may have a ucl semi final team from the Bundesliga apart from Bayern.

In that sense it would also be helpful to have a Club like HSV, Bremen or Kaiserslautern in around the ucl spots because unlike RB and Hoffenheim they actually have pressure to succeed because of the Fans, Media attention and history, which RB and Hoffenheim obviously do not have like that. They are just where they are and say: We are a young Club, this is new for us and we cant expect to go all the way already. Meanwhile the Fans at Werder Bremen or the Media would be talking about their past success and create Ambition to do another 2003/04. Leipzig getting Selke was nothing when you consider a relegating team like BURNLEY can snatch Weghorst for a ridiculously cheap price, or mid-table Aston Villa outbidding Leverkusen for Buendia. Bundesliga Fan here and I cannot stress enough how much I and the majority of german fans despise Red Bulls involvement in football. I've recently been to Leipzig and every person I spoke to was in big disapproval of Red Bull. Most people I spoke to were supporters of Chemie Leipzig, an actual Leipzig football club with history and a healthy fan base. Also looking back at the recent Europa League season (I'm a Frankfurt supporter), I was just so relieved to have Rangers as our finals opponent just because I was happy that even if we lost the finals, the victory for the opponents would actually mean something to them. Because that is the huge problem here. RB Supporters are just "eventies" as we call them here. People who don't give a shit about the club or any other aspect except the Bundesliga Football. And that is just utterly antithetical to football culture here in Germany. Another aspect is the recent Cup final which RB won unfortunately. SC Freiburg, who are located at the complete opposite side of the country from berlin brought 40.000 Fans to the Olympiastadion, while RB only brought about 10k, even though Leipzig is just a one and a half hour drive away from Berlin. And Freiburg is a club that has only played mid table or second bundesliga football for ages. There just isn't any emotion behind RB's involvement except the contempt felt by other football fans for them. And recently they have only been a haven for people who like playing the victims, kind of becoming a weird cult of sorts instead of a football club. Like as if they are reveling in the negativity brought against RB. And then there's the obvious problem which is the competition in the Bundesliga. RB always tries to pretend that they are a well run club but that couldn't be further from the truth, as recently as 2020 they got a (for Bundesliga standarts) gigantic funds injection which was worth over 200 Million Euros. All the while other Bundesliga Clubs which were struggling with the impact of the pandemic have had to cut corners absolutely everywhere. For example Eintracht Frankfurt had to sell their top striker André Silva because of financial troubles and, of course, Leipzig picked him up after offering him about triple the salary Frankfurt could have paid him. Unfortunately these kind of terrible influences on competition in the Bundesliga are common nowadays with clubs like Wolfsburg, Leverkusen and Hoffenheim not even having to care about their financial stability, since their owners/investors just simply pay for all the loss they make at the end of the fiscal year. There has never been a case where a club with that kind of financial backing being relegated and it's not hard to see why. And concerning the arguments made in the video, how can you be so sure that players like mané or haaland wouldn't have been able to have their chance in european football without RB? Is there some kind of magic sauce they have that makes them so much better than any other club? Not at all honestly. The thing they do is offer talent like that huge salaries that other "development clubs" simply can't compete with. Players like that would have OF COURSE been able to get their breakthrough into european top football without RB. It just would have happened at a different club. I'm honestly sick of hearing these terrible arguments in media, constructing the myth that these clubs are "so well run" or that "they enrich the football in their respective regions". No they do not. They are not just a net negative on foorball but they are just a negative in every aspect. Sorry for ranting but I'm just so sick of it...

Well RB Salzburg is my hometown club and what you wanna hear, they made football super approachable in Austria, specially in Salzburg. Where we usually had no chance international, let alone a team to cheer on, we have now some of the best youngstars in Austria. Which by the way also made Austria attractive for young players outside of Salzburg. On top of that, they made a visit in the arena super approachable, with your ticket, which is super cheap by the way, you are also getting a ride (public transfer) to the arena and home, for ~15€. And jeah, most people in Austria respect Red Bull for what they did, but pretty much everyone still hates the club.

Personally if my Hockey team, Toronto Maple Leafs, got bought out by a company, changed their name and colors, and ignored the teams 100+ year history I would be beyond outraged. One thing I think this misses is just how woeful the Metrostars were before Red Bull bought them. They have the worst combined regular season record of any of the inaugural 10 MLS teams. Up until Red Bull bought them, they were the only of the inaugural 10 clubs to never have won a major trophy. They've missed the playoffs more times than any other MLS club. It might not be raining MLS Cups or CCL trophies for RBNY, but they're now consistently a playoff team, play an entertaining and unique brand of soccer, and finally have a kind of major trophy. They've shown they're willing to spend to get results with Henry and Marquez, they guilt what's probably still the best stadium in MLS, and they're on good terms with the supporters. The league nearly folded just 5 years before RBNY was rebranded, and at one point was down to just 3 owners for 12 teams; when they bought the Metrostars, owners with deep pockets and a commitment to the future of soccer in America were hard to come by. In my opinion, Red Bull's buying of the Metrostars was the thing that finally showed we were past the contraction era and the time period where the league's survival was in doubt. As a fan of the league, I think they're responsible stakeholders and have generally done right by both their fans individually and by US Soccer as a whole.

There's a very good video by Athletic Interest (another great channel) about the corporative approach of Red Bull on various sports, do recommend. Also, as a brazilian, the RB Bragantino situation is very controversial. Bragantino was a quite traditional club in the state of São Paulo, but never achieved national success, the only silverware in the club's history are regional cups. However, since the takeover, they have reached the finals of Copa Sulamericana (2nd tier continental cup) and qualified to the Libertadores this season. This polarizes the fans, though, cause the club barely has any identity left. It's quite hard to give an objective answer.

This did happen to my club, but I was 12 years old when it happened. I remember going to school one morning and my friend telling me that Red Bull bought the Metrostars and were changing the name. We all thought it was weird, but we were too young to understand the greater context of everything, so we got used to it pretty quickly. A lot of fans here still aren't thrilled about the change of name and identity, but for what it's worth, Red Bull has pretty much completely walked back the idea that there was no history prior to the name change in 2006, and the colors red and white have been used by the team since 1996 anyway. I think that American sports fans are used to team owners being rich assholes who have straightup contempt for the average fan (read a little bit about the history of major league baseball and you'll learn that baseball owners are some of the worst people in the world), so if our team is owned by an American billionaire or an Austrian billionaire, what's the difference?

I support Union Berlin and have pondered about my Issues with Leipzig, as my Club Stands against everything that RP Leipzig is. I have also wondered if I would accept a takeover of Union like that of Leipzig. My issue isn't that they're in the top flight or that they're having success. Its how they did it. They broke 50+1, they're promoting a Brand, not Football or Leipzig. They're a danger to german football. There is the justification that this happens in other leagues like City, Chelsea or PSG but thats exactly why we have 50+1, to prevent this. So I could never Accept a takeover like that, no matter how many troophies would be won.

Both these teams have throphies. One of them even competed in a CAF competitions. Fans had jerseys. These did not disappear like Bury, which is probably much better than say Portsmouth gets new owners, then move the team to London or Liverpool then rename and change colors, killing history in the process. What happened with old Salzburg team and what happens to South African soccer fans is painful. Be that as it may, i wouldn't mind a City Group and Red Bull team, as long as the league comes up with rules that a bit strict(No using corporate/brand names. No relocating. I am from Austria and I have been watching football for 25 years. Red Bull is generally not liked around here because they made our own Bundesliga very very boring as they have about 10x the budget compared to the usually good teams in our league. @@k.6094 The gap in the Austrian Bundesliga is much much bigger. Dortmund are not a selling club by their own choosing, players leave eventually to join the biggest of clubs in Europe. Dortmund wants to keep their best players. The reason why Bayern win every year is because the other clubs do not capitalize on Bayern's slip-ups, which there are many. At one point a few years ago Dortmund was 9 points ahead of bayern halfway through the season but they messed it up, as usual. Consistency is the problem there.

As a german football fan I have to wholeheartedly disagree. Red Bull has had a profoundly negative effect on football in this country. I don't think RB could ever become serious competition to Bayern Munich since they have proven time and time again that they will just buy their competitors most valuable assets be it players or even managers. The only thing RB has achieved in Germany is to steal a spot in the first division from a real member owned club. I also don't buy the argument that they created jobs since they definitely also cost people that were previously employed by the teams that RB replaced their jobs. All around the Bundesliga is a worse league for fans since it's yet another team without a proper fan-culture. Nobody is passionate to see games such as Augsburg vs RB in the Bundesliga and it is damaging the appeal of the league as a whole.

I find the model they've created as a track from US to Austria to Germany fascinating. It's very similar to American sport leagues where there's the lower league that young players can play against closer to level opposition to develop a bit more before making the jump to the big league. That said, I'd hate to be in their Public Relations division because the way the company handles it's fanbases is really poor from what I've seen while living in New England (rivals of the mentioned NYRB). If they can do better with PR and continue/begin to more consistently develop young talent, then I think they'll become more accepted over time.

As a German Bundesliga fan, I think there is no harm in having one team like RB Leipzig as the odd one out. I don't see them as the destroyers of traditional football, because they are harmonizing alongside the traditional football clubs. All other teams still exist and are still competetive. In fact, many traditional clubs are benefitting from Red Bull because they are signing the players that have been raised by them. I rather see them as some sort of antithesis to traditional football clubs, which is absolutely fine. However this would be a different story if brands were to take over the Bundesliga, but I don't see that coming at the moment.

As some what of an outsider, I think bigger more public multi-sport franchises like Red Bull are better than what the other option is which is something like Fenway Sports which owns an NFL, MLB, and Arsenal but nobody complains about them because most people dont know that they exist. At least with Red Bull their is something for people to see and know that they should complain about.

As a Red Bull New York fan (and about a 15 minute drive to the stadium) I wouldn't say out Shields are "meaningless" but that they don't hold as much value as an MLS Cup. The Supporters Shield is equivalent to winning the league in any other country, the MLS Cup is just an Americanized-tournament to "win the league". I also do wish the RBNY was treated the same as Salzburg and was pushed as a league winning side every year, but it seems as we are the feeder program for the other RB teams. Although the past 4 or so years have not been the best, things are looking up now, we finally have a manager who is installing the red bull-esc football we have all been waiting for the past 3-4 years. And I will gladly purchase and sip my Red Bull while watching my boys play any day of the week! Thanks for a great video!

And the nicest thing I was getting sometimes was the fans of the other clubs in european football (like Lazio, Marseille, Ajax Amsterdam and others) and get to chat with these guys for a bit. I am from the city of Salzburg and I would consider myself a fan of RB Salzburg. As I am currently 20 years old I've grown up watching players like René Aufhauser, Christoph Leitgeb or Eddie Gustafsson and always liked the play style and the creation of sensational talents. However, I also don't fully support the marketing decisions. I don't like the fact, that they tried to erase the history and I am hoping they change things for better. I would love to see Austria Salzburg and Red Bull Salzburg merge into one again under conditions that satisfy both parties. (For example retaking the SV Austria Salzburg Name with Red Bull as the main sponsor on the Kit, Purple and Red colors) However I don't dislike the involvement of Red Bull in the Club. The difference between Salzburg and Leipzig ist the usage of the sponsorship money. While in Germany they buy good players and are boosting the team directly with the money, the Austrian club focuses on the development of young and rising talents (Haaland, Mane, Adeyemi, Upamecano, Sabitzer, Hinteregger, Laimer, ... the list goes on). Edit: I dislike RB Leipzig because not only of their usage of the sponsorship money but also because of their transfer policy. They got promoted from 5th division because they signed free agents with a crazy good wage and are now buying promising players not only from around the world but mostly from RB Salzburg, which completely puts us in a bad light for only being the "factory" of talents... So for a conclusion I would say that I love the club, even though it has flaws. And I hope there would be actions in the future to make those flaws right

Leipzig has a difficult stand here in Germany but you have to give them a lot of credit what they have achieved. They just recently one the DFB Cup and played a huge role in CL and the BL. In my opinion they do have the right to play to play in the BL without any prejudices because they do play very good football. I hope they get more appreciation in the future

I wonder if Sidney Raebiger can make it big. I would still give them time to fulfill their huge youth ambitions tho although what you've said is definitely true for the moment. Yeah there are many clubs in East Germany and even other clubs in Leipzig with great tradition, but these clubs are pretty much always unsuccessful nowadays. After all these years East Germany still rarely has successful politicians (although quite obviously Merkel comes from East Germany), companys etc. - especially compared to West Germany. Many East Germans are Leipzig fans and I can't blame them - East Germany generally has minority complexes for good reasons.

The coach at Vitesse Arnhem used to coach the youth teams at Salzburg and the feeding club of Salzburg. So there were a bunch of rumours of a possible Red Bull takeover. So during those discussions, it basically came down to either choosing our history or building for the future. And personally, I was on the side of building for the future, because playing against top teams also creates history. And doing so through Red Bull is 10 times better than with some dirty oil money.

As a supporter and season ticket holder of Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried I have to admit that the quality of Austrian football has improved drastically over the past decade. For a lot of that success you have to give credits to RB who year on year manage to develop insanely talented players. Even though half of their team changes every season they are still able to win the league with ease and do well in European competition. Salzburg has taken the Austrian league to a new level. However, that doesn't mean that I like what they did to fan culture. The worst thing happened when they played their first home game in the Red Bull era in 2005. The ref had to pause the game cause the stadium announcer was in fact commentating the game on the stadium microphones. I've never heard anything like that ever again. The same season, fans of Austria Salzburg went to an away game of RB to Ried and they were cheering for the home team. That shows how much the disrespect hurt the people who had supported the club for years. After a couple years, RB (when Rangnick got installed as sports chef) changed their philosophy to how it is today. A lot of people's opinion has changed for the better since then. Nevertheless, there is still rivalry to that construct that RB is and I can't imagine any change in the near future.

As a german, if my local club (which is Schalke, by the way), was being bought by Red Bull, or something similar, with all of the "pros" and cons, I would probably stop being a football fan altogether. This is literally no different to me from the club filing bankruptcy to then vanish completely. In both cases my club would be gone forever. Actually, bankruptcy wouldn't feel as bad, comparatively, because then we just ultimately lost, we were not good enough. Being bought by RB on the other hand would feel more like getting destroyed from the outside by corporate greed. Nothing I like about this sport is being represented by a club like this either. There would simply be nothing there that I would care about at all. To me, there is no reason to be a fan of a club like that. Playing well and winning trophys and such isn't a deciding factor for me to be a fan. Considering the "pros" listet in the video, I have to say that I don't even quite get them, especially in a big league like the Bundesliga. Great that they help the city they are in, but if they didn't exist, then another club/city would be where they are now. Maybe Kiel or Nürnberg would be playing Bundesliga right now? Someone else would, instead of them. So what is the gain here? Some clubs worked hard with little money to get there, imo. RB just took one position from those honest clubs and their cities, by using an overwhelming financial advantages. I am similarly confused about the talents point. Do you think that a player like Upamecano or Sabitzer would not be playing on such a high level right now, if it weren't for RB? Why? It is not like they got there as 10 year old no names and were taught everything by a club believing in them. They were already great talents before they even went to RB. Sure maybe some of them wouldn't have made it with a different club, but this is pure speculation. Just as we can speculate some great talents didn't make it, because RB was the wrong club for them. Nobody knows how many of players made the cut because of RB, compared to when they didn't exist.
