In my opinion, big techs are becoming the dinosaurs now… the next gen companies will start remote first and won’t have these gigantic leasings and office contracts commitments. Top talents will look to work for the new companies, the same way 20 years ago it was cool to work for google or facebook.
@techwithsoleymanАй бұрын
Yeah I mean it really depends on a whole host of factors that would take an hour to write down now. But, one thing with big Tech, is they can afford to pay the biggest salaries and comps for the best talent. Ultimately, money is the biggest needle mover.

I work remotely and I feel like things get done faster because we’re not distracted by the office. The office has waaayyyyy more distractions than I do at home, and most of those distractions come from other people. That’s why for personal networking the office environment shines, other than that I don’t see any upsides.

Some jobs are fine just WFH. What jobs are not. there are data suggested that too many people work at work delayed alot of IT services, software and video games release. Some games delayed by over 6 months. You can always argue that it's not because of WFH, it's because they set unrealistic release date. Or the employees are just incompetent. Some people said they are more effective, but they really didn't produce more when WFH.

I'm sorry, but you cannot use examples such as hairdresser and taxi driver because the nature of their work is hands-on. Tech-related work can be done anywhere from a computer. I understand hybrid models where you come into the office some days because you do need that interaction, but if the office is a noisy, open-plan atmosphere where you can't concentrate on what you are doing, productivity will surely go down.

Hi Soleyman, I worked at NYC housing department , which is a federal agency. The real estate lobbies in DC control cities like NYC and Seattle. Real estate lobbies pay congressmen and politicians give tax breaks and incentives to major employers. In March 2022, only 48 percent of NYC was occupied, yet prices were sky high - It's all about the moolah. Bringing employees back is more about stabilizing prices.

My son does cybersecurity for Amazon. In 30 months he’s gone from $75K to $295K. He loves working for them. And as for being forced to give up remote work starting next year, he and his team members will only have to be in the office for two hours each day. I admit I don’t understand the point of it though because his team don’t live in the same city. They are spread out over six cities from the West Coast to the East Coast. In other words, even if they are in the office at the same time, they will still all be remote from each other.
@snipelite94Ай бұрын
Perhaps that's what Amazon are hoping for. Desperate applicants willing to be underpaid and overworked.
@abhinavk999Ай бұрын
RTO makes sense when all the team members or most of stakeholders are co-located. In the past, I have experienced scenarios where I am in office 1 and my team members and stakeholders are globally located. And the idea of fixed cubicle/desk with sufficient gaps between them is long gone with flexible desk where everyone taking meeting at the same time sitting next to one another. Under these circumstances, WFH shines compared to RTO or Hybrid. If it is Hybrid, there is option to sit sufficiently away since less employees are there on a given day.
@mr.random8447Ай бұрын
LOL, you act like you have choice. I too had the mentality, I would never take a job if it wasn't 100% remote. In this economy? I'm back in the office...
@muyvin98Ай бұрын
The idea is if amazon is forcing to workers to return to the office. Do not fight the management, go back to the office. at the same time find a new job that meets your needs or expectation. until you drop the bomb and say goodbye amazon consider how J** and And* of Amaz** thinks their employee like cattles. its not for long term anyway just find another job

Ironically if you don't have a choice then they probably don't even want you to work with them at their offices.

Enjoy remote work while it lasts. Every company is going to follow suit. Or in the least they will start outsourcing to cheaper remote work. If you can work remote from LA or NYC, then they can find equal skills for 1/10th the cost in India, Philippines, Brazil, Poland and Mexico! OH! And when AI starts handling back office work, good luck!

Many talented Americans are "offshoring" their opportunities, choosing to work for foreign companies that not only offer remote work but also pay competitively for skilled employees. This allows them to avoid long, sometimes dangerous commutes and cut costs on exorbitant childcare fees. Amazon isn't the be-all and end-all. If the workers who helped build it asked the public to support a new venture they create, many would likely do so in solidarity.

Do you think Apple and Google etc will implement the same policy?
@FF18CloudАй бұрын
I dunno, i kinda learned when i recently switched teams internally in my company That, as much as I liked the collab and productivity my adhd ass got from going to the office The real thing that got me going was working on hard and wackadoo projects where i kinda question management why they decided to do the things they're doing (while, obviously still trying my hardest making the impossible possible) I was stuck doing front end for 2 years on my previous team, where project planning and management was pretty streamlined. My new team, i had to inherit someone else's backend code and clean that up, while trying to pull teeth from previous team members on this team to figure out a bunch of configurations that i dont have access to changing + all of the new random tech i had to learn in a week... Ngl, as stressful as it has been, it has been "fun"... Im probably more pissed off, but when you get to finally stretch and make meaningful decisions to make things better while fighting to get dibs on more interesting tasks than just "fix this bug" or "change this styling" or the biggie "upgrade this package" Like, im not saying react and all that jazz is bad, that whole thing made me some weird master of unit testing and e2e testing but by god do i miss the random insanity of low standard coding where, you get to implement and fix those standards yourself where it feels like the stuff im working on gets to touch whole systems, vs just one side of the whole thing... My sleep has still been awful though, but its nothing like my time working in finance where I would go to the office, work from 9-6, get home, do whatever i was gonna do, then log back in at like, 10PM and keep working until like, 2AM, send my india coworkers a giant ass email (which i remember when i left, they told me that they were scared of my giant emails, lol (i have both ADHD and the unfortunate trait of having once been a college video game columnist)) Maybe its the feeling where it feels like i can actually share my opinions about things instead of just bringing up if i had problems with my code or something :/ But i also hated working in finance, even when i had that feeling of ownership (i was still paid like, under 80k for those 5 years, from 2016-2021)

And people desperate for just about ny job out of sheer desperation will GLADLY Replace these people quitting amazon in a moment's notice. Most of these employees don't know on how good they have it while being hired by Amazon and they'll just quit Willy nilly because they can't get their way!?...this tells you on what kind of upbringing these people have which obviously never had any Honor nor respect for people who hired them. There's something to be said about a certain group of people who can't compromise because they can't get their way when they're the ones who needed the jobs required and the companies who hired them
@Entertainment-is6exАй бұрын
That kind of attitude leads to the current employer-employee power imbalance, where employees are treated badly. Employees provide value, and they shouldn’t stand for being treated horribly, just because they are desperate for a job to make a living.

@GroovyPotentialАй бұрын
That is great if your team and manager are in the same building. However,for most Amazonians their managers/teams are spread all over the world. So check this: you have to go to the office and then you will be online all day, because you can only collaborate online. All meetings are also online. What is the purpose then for RTO? This can be done from anywhere in the world.

Everyone looking forward to the gridlock and highway traffic madness again. We have all seen the reports of Amazon's just-walk-out *technology* and Zoox self-driving *technology* actually being handled by masses of low-cost workers over in India. That 5 day return to office actually means they want 20 percent of the US corporate workers to LEAVE without having to do another round of Layoffs and severance payouts, to be replaced by much cheaper labor in India offices. Good for the 'efficiency' report to shareholders but bad for US workers. Brought to you by the company famous for pey-in-bottles and crying-at-desks. ;-)

I served in the Army for nine years as a Pharmacy Specialist while simultaneously working in communications, focusing on programming computers and hardware. Upon leaving the military, I joined Aetna and CVS as a Pharmacy Technician. During lunch breaks, I dedicated time to reading programming books, which caught the attention of my supervisor. We utilized a database application for clinical reviews related to Medicare D medication approvals and denials. My supervisor and her manager inquired if I could enhance the application and resolve ongoing bugs that were frequently reported. I outlined straightforward solutions for improvement and was soon connected with the project team. Within a week, I successfully resolved approximately 98% of the identified bugs and was able to implement requested features quickly. As a result of my contributions, my job title was changed to Business Analytics Specialist. In this role, I focused on creating automations, developing software, and maintaining the formulary. I have never been materialistic; instead, I have invested diligently in the stock market. My passive income eventually surpassed my salary, prompting me to retire and pursue my true passions in life.
