I remember, well over 20 years ago, going to see an author doing a book signing. I asked her about how much she gets per book and she said she got a dollar for each book sold and the hard cover selling price was about $25 AND the publisher wants her out doing book signings to push her book! Compare that with Amazon KDP! Think of KDP like this: IF you can make, on average $100 a month per book and you have 100 low content books up, that's $10,000 a month or $120K/Year!! Even if you have to put up 200 low content books over a couple of years to eventually make $10k/month is it WORTH IT? In fact, making 10K/month with 100+ books is safer than making it with 1-5 books which can fall off is sales and leave you with hardly anything after a year of so!

So true! Amazon is a numbers game. I saw a video from a woman who writes romance novels on Amazon. She does series, and here's the kicker -- she doesn't write any of them. She gets people to write them for next to nothing, and all she does is edit and put them on Amazon. She has over 300 books now, under different author names, and she makes mega bucks, but it took her a few years to get there, pumping all her profits at first into getting more books written and putlished.

kdspy shows revenue, not royalty, even if it showed royalty (which is a LOT less than revenue) you'd still have to subtract ad spend, so out of this $10k, probably 1k only profit who knows

I have 2 romance novels published through a traditional publisher and I get very little in royalties. They are both on Amazon and the covers are not what I would choose, but I had no choice in what was chosen. My publisher wants me to write more books and it I do, I'll self-publish them. I know with the new AI I could make better covers. It takes me a year to write and edit my books, plus edits with my editor. It's too much work for so little.
