Well actually you can fly your drone in that area. The campground can say that you cannot take off or land on our property but has no control over the air space. Just step off and fly away.

There is the North Rim entrance, South Rim entrance and East entrance. To go in via the west, you buy a permit and actually drive to the bottom of the canyon. When you said you had been to west, is that what you did? That is something I really want to do soon.
