After achieving my first 10k I confirm it does make a massive difference. I have the stability that the 10k provides me in the back of my mind which helps me with daily positive decision making. However it is also a catch 22 as I really do everything in my power each and every day not to touch that 10k, continue to add to it and watch it grow over time.

I completely relate! It does feel so good to have saved up that much, and I don’t have to stress about finances very much. But at the same time, I still mentally hate spending money and just want to save as much as possible. 😂
@abrahamalatorre3 ай бұрын
I can also relate as well. When I saved my first 10k I definitely felt my finances were in order and helped me make better financial decisions. Also what helped me out a lot (and can for other people) is to have a system placed where each time payday hits, a certain amount is automatically transferred to a HYSA account for a different bank. And the other portion to investments. That way, money is consistently organized and aimed at what it's for.

You're so right about the difference between "can I afford this?" and "should I afford this?" I never had a phase of operating on the former, but I feel like fundamentally that is the difference maker. The mindset of perceiving the benchmark for affording something as being when you can get your hands on the amount of money that allows you to purchase it is disastrous. There is such a huge opportunity cost whenever you purchase beyond your needs, especially when young.

Love this. Also, almost certainly the reason you can save faster (8:13) after that first $10,000 is because if you don't have to charge a $2500 unexpected repair bill, you don't get hit with all the finance charges that completely sap you economically. (If you don't have the money when the repair has to happen, it's not like you're going to magically have it in a month when the credit card bill is due, so there you are, carrying that balance again....)

Nothing like having an emergency fund set aside. My central air unit just died…..$6200 replacement. Came at the perfect moment when I’m also paying off an engagement ring and wedding band (0% interest for 12 months). Fortunately I made establishing an emergency fund at the beginning of the year. I had $5500 in a HYSA, and another $15k in ETFs outside my retirement account. I’m able to pay for the AC in cash, still pay my bills, and not have to even touch the ETFs. I’ll probably have to postpone buying the motorcycle I’ve been wanting for 20 years now, but not getting put into a bind over what could’ve been an emergency is amazing peace of mind. The new unit should be more efficient than the 24 year old unit it’s replacing too. Though I’ll admit having to start the emergency fund over again will suck, I’m happy I have that option. EDIT: should mention I was also able to take a large pay cut this year for a job that’s extremely less stressful as well

Buying a house is nice but a lot of Americans are losing tons on opportunity costs because they decided to buy a house. Renting a lot of times, while you’ll never own it, makes you so much more money over time because you don’t have these massive phantom costs and can instead call the landlord and put that money to work for you instead.

Reason 6 is so true, lots of the things that can be dealt with money are not happening anymore (e.g., late fees) and it even gives you a sense of financial unstress (constant lack of money is so stressful, every day, each purchase..). Seeing results (that it actually works over time) is so motivating, maybe that is a reason why as shown in the data those who have 10 000 USD saved are more likely to save more.

Money brings PEACE! I am trying to save up for a flight school, and I am so close. Life gets easier after 10k, and you can start relaxing after 20k... 30-40k is where I started to feel free because I could take just about any hit that came at me. FLIGHT SCHOOL?!?! Bro. I am walking that path right now. I will tell you this: SAVE SAVE SAVE! DO NOT FLY UNTIL YOU HAVE $7000-$10000 SAVED UP. I used a 0% 15 month credit card for my private license and It ended up biting me in the butt. Yeah, I got the license, but took me longer to pay back the interest. And it delayed my start to get started on my instrument and commercial ratings. As coffee prices went up to a point I am not okay with anymore, I completely cut that out of my spending. Prices were 50cents which was okay, but went up and now are 80 cents the last time I checked or even more since then. The ammount of coffee coming out of that machine also got cut in half so it's more a 1,60€ per (fullsize) coffee. My usual were 4 to 5 cups of that coffe every day at working hours. Calculating that for a working month with 22 days gives 0.80*4*22 = 70,40€ a month just for that garbage coffee, which doesn't even taste good. I stopped drinking that coffee for several months now. Doing that for several months, you might be able to afford a proper new coffee machine and a fancy coffee-to-go container to take it to&from work. It's just coffee. But at those machines at work, it's damn expensive.

Have you made a video to demonstrate how you make coffee? I’ve made coffee from small independent roasters and it still tastes sour and bitter without milk and sweetener.

For everyone watching this, remember: luck, is a HUGE factor, you may have a little more possibilities by saving and having good finances, but all this people that earn a lot of money an attribute their success to hard work forget that luck is the biggest factor in the equation, there are several psychological studies that have observed that, so remember that no youtuber will give you the answer to make good money, because they don't have the answer for you! And even if they did, they would not tell you because then they will be out of business....

Older I get I see it’s now the down payment it’s “easy enough to save just takes time” the monthly payments with budgeting spending within your means. Millionaires go broke living above there means.

I just paid off all of my credit card debt with a loan from my 401k and only now am starting to put money each check into a high yield savings account. At the rate I’m contributing to that account, I should have 10k in two years. Which doesn’t take into consideration the interest I’ll receive or any extra money I put in over that time period. I can’t wait to see those four zeroes 😊

Heyyy, I don’t know if this is a dumb question but when you say you can take more risk or the 10 to 1 rule, that 1 is from the savings account or from the other accounts you use to live? Does this makes sense?

I think it doesn't really matter how you have things organized, so long as you have reasonable access to that one percent (such as not incurring taxes to use it, etc.) -- hope that helps answer your question!

I got to over 10k in my country's currency, and blew most of it away, until i got under 10k of my country's currency... So yeah, it does help.

I’m 19 and have 18k in investments from 9 months working a minimum paying job. I can agree hitting that 10k mark really made me go harder and invest more. Trying to hit 22k by the end of the year but is content with 20k. I still need to learn a lot, so i would really appreciate any advice or any thoughts on the matter🙏. And i agree money doesn’t buy happiness but it buys the time and opportunities to be happy.
