A Level 3 charger should get you to 50% of charge within 15-20 minutes. Granted charging infrastructure needs to improve, but it is improving. Battery technology is also evolving very quickly; today's limitations will probably be a memory in ten years. That said, I think it should be up to you whether you operate EV or ICE, not the government. All government interference does is distort the economy and damage the industry. Look what happened in the 1970s-an activist federal government mandating pollution control trashed the economy and almost killed the Big Three (which, in the 1960s, was the Big Four). Sound familiar?

He’d finished at our works at 3pm but before he could go home to Cannock which is 22 miles away. He had to go find a charger as he had 9% charge, 12 miles worth he estimated, so it would take him at least an hour to charge to 85% so he could go home and plug in overnight for 100% ready for next day.

I've seen comments elsewhere that EVs were NOT the problem with abandoned vehicles. One commenter stated that any EV had the opportunity to charge to at least 70% to escape the fires. Wow. We now have complete mastery of a wildfire, in that it can be delayed until people have had the opportunity to charge their EVs, *and* the grid remained working until that convenience. It only takes ONE disabled EV to run out of juice on the highway, to cause the gridlock and abandoned vehicles seen here. An ICE car can be recharged with a jerry can - how does a dead flat EV achieve the same result?

I've got petrol, I've got diesel and we've got several evs and vans for the business and non of them have been an issue, we use the id buzz commercial and they are a perfect replacement to the t6 they replaced. It's very rare the vans do more than their daily range. This will be the same for bt as they will be used locally and well within range Diesel has it's place for towing and long distance. Hgv and commercial. They should be sold for longer to those with a reason and a commercial need I'll keep my modified, sports and classic ice vehicles but having owned and lived with ice, I'm never ever wanting to go back to them for daily driving, they are far more inconvenient. Most the media and comments come from those who don't have EVs, most EV owners had ice before and are in a position over an only ice owner who's not owned an EV... Anti EV is a great way for KZbinrs to earn as there is too much miss information and not enough understanding, only ice owners and day reviewers have ev range anxiety whilst those who own EVs really don't worry Those ferries should stay diesel, buses have had EV for a long time now and vehicles have already had the batteries upgraded to something newer and are built ready for upgrades, their old batteries are currently being repurposed into home storage as after 5-10 years they still had over 80% health and will likely do 20 years in home storage and can then be recycled. I've also sat in long lines waiting for petrol or diesel several times and now i make my own fuel at home it's far cheaper and convenient

Time stood around charging or queuing to charge means losing money. The delivery guy from one of our distributors took the van home every night, but he had no driveway at home to park it, so he would have been stuffed had he been given an electric van.

Range extenders for EVs are available. Some liquid fueled generators so one of those with a couple of cans of diesel, problem solved.

Hard to tell if this particular charging station was indeed in the LA area. Would have been interesting to see the queue at a nearby petrol station for comparison. Even if your car is down to 10% state of charge you can still get 50 miles which should bring you safely outside of the danger zone. Especially in beautiful areas with an abundance of clean electricity from wind and hydro EV should be the way to go. Electricity is already there, petrol needs to be transported to where it's needed. Nope, EV's are not for every one. Close to 1000 miles each day or towing a heavy boat regularly over longer distances isn't fun yet. But, that's not what most of us do.

Don't forget that scientist's are working hard to find an alternative solution to battery powered transport. When it arrives all current battery transport will become obsolete. Anyone with half a brain can figure out what happens next. We are currently in phase 1 of a big experiment. Hang onto your britches folks, we are at the beginning of a VERY BUMPY RIDE.

When it arrives all current ICE transport would be obsolete as well would it not?🤔
@albinklein768016 күн бұрын
@@DwaynePipeswhy? Almost every ICE vehicle could run on synthetic fuels.
@DwaynePipes16 күн бұрын
@@albinklein7680 Oh, synthetic fuels! Any idea when they will be available at a reasonable price? Maybe at the same time as the scientist who are working on solid state, non lithium, non cobalt, long range, super quick charging, non self burning batteries which would negate all of the EV hate objections? The race is on!🏇🏃

Police cars being EVs is all very well ... unlike they run out of battery when chasing someone. IIRC the LA police tried using EVs a few years ago but due to their short-comings, they were moved from being used for regular police work to simple things like transporting people.

Diesel generators of 600kVA at the ferry ports should solve the problem 😊. No need for pylons.

That Transit needs to take a leaf out of Top Gear's book and put a diesel generator in the back.

"I don't think the automobile will catch on. I'll stick to the horse." It's normal for people to be "afraid" of new but to speak future low and only of its issues won't get us further. There is more chances than problems in it. We just might need to keep our mind open to future.

At least the insurance is cheap with EVs 😉 my ICE car £329, a Tesla model 3 £814 😆 and that's a 21 plate with 51,000 miles on the clock so i best get saving the £18,000 up for a replacement battery while am at it as well 😆😂🤣

Seems sodium battery technology needs to get higher priority. There abundance of sodium compared to lithium and it is inert. So fires aren't a hazard in emergencies.

Something that seems to be forgotten or more likely ignored with all this electrifying transport bullplop is batter electric propulsion does not scale well. The bigger the thing is, the worse the problem.

Tesla has a mechanical door release handle. As for charging, it isnt EVs fault that people run the battery to 10% and then struggle to find a charger. Any normal EV owner will have a stage 2 at home and have full battery with 200-350mi of range and the battery barley gets used when sitting in a grid lock. In case of emergency yiure way better off woth an EV than a gas car. Gas stations run on electricity and you wouldnt even be able to pump your gas without it.

I believe that California or one of the cities donated & sent their diesel fire trucks to Ukraine. This has left them SFA, in terms of transport to fires or other emergencies with reduced capability to fight fires.

They have to rotate the old vehicles out of the fleet when new ones arrive - otherwise where would they keep them? And how much extra would it cost to keep them operationally ready?? And how much would it cost to buy extra kit for the new trucks instead of swapping over what's already available??? ... 💰💰💰
