If you want to know the theoretical possibilities of AGI reach out to some one who actually knows about it. There is no point talking about AGI capabilities to investors and business men, They are just bubble pumping. I have been working in AI space , i can you assure with all my understanding and people who i talk to on daily basis, We are in a AI bubble and the economic extinction is the only real threat. Unlike internet bubble where we had a valuation bubble, AI is a complete theoretical bubble . it is not even theoretically possible to achieve 80% of the claims these loosers make. David Lin , you should really bring someone like meta's yann-le-cunn on to your show. Investors know jack shit about AI, It is the AI scientists you should be talking to on these subjects.

How do you know that self-awareness is possible for a machine? That's the mechanistic view of consciousness, which is contested to say the least. But you don't need self-awareness for a program to be a threat, all you need is for the goal determined by the programmer to be unfavorable to you. Same as any other tool that already exists.

Thank you, I'm glad real people are posting besides fraud crypto post. This gentleman makes a lot of assumptions about "cognition" or self-awareness. I am sorry, Ai/AGI cannot have self awareness without values. Values are informed by society and culture, and humans can change and adapt the values and cultures. I don't believe AI can ever be more intelligent than humans. They will be able to process information, but how will it make a determination... based on it's programming. Furthermore, how will a computer judge character? This is inherently an intuitive process, China social credit score aside, that is based on social customs, relationships, history, etc. It doesn't mean its right.

The opposite question is How do you know it is Not possible for AI to achieve something close to self opinion or self preservation? How do you or anyone know what the limits are? Right now it’s a free for all of various companies driven by short term profit . It’s a competition. What happens in a fierce competition? They keep pushing the limits for self profit over their rivals without considering the good of the collective.

But a lot of self-proclaimed "AI experts" who don't even work in that field or have done any serious studies in the subject, talk about general AI as if it was inevitable, when we don't even know if it's possible. The assumption is that humans are complicated machines, and our consciousness is a byproduct of complex biological processes. I've got a masters in engineering sciences, read hundreds if not thousands of scientific papers, and I've never encountered any convincing evidence for that perspective. In fact I've encountered a lot of data that seems to contradict it.

@@Jaime-eg4eb We don't know, you are correct. The question is are there then safe guards being utilized by these companies that in an AI race to push the limits. My experience is that these tech companies only care about profit and growth, which is the norm in a capitalist society, but not if there is a risk of harming society and ultimately themselves. The movie Terminator always comes to mind because it seemed to make sense that once AI "realized" it's role in the ecosystem what would prevent it from doing what is best for itself. Is this possibel without it being written in the code? maybe and maybe not. Perhaps the "realization" is triggered by pushing it's limits in order to compete.

Just a reminder that it's only in the past 80 years or so that people didn't need to wo work until they died unless they had a big family to look after them. Our modern world is only years old and our consciousness is in it's infancy. So I agree that hey I can be a force multiply when it comes to learning but everybody learns in a different way and just because you get all A's in school that doesn't mean anything but you still have a lot of incompetent people that got 4.0 and a valedictorians education and there's different levels and radiations of intelligence the same can be applied to AI it's not just what you learning books it's what you can apply in the real world do you want a valedictorian who who is a plumber for a carpenter or other things AI is not going to be able to ai and Asia is not going to be able to completely replace everyone as😊 it's only using the data that it has in the data bank or can access to and it's about the quality of the data that has cuz if you know anything about intelligence or data collection not all data sets are correct and you have to be constantly uploading the data so what might be true in one instance might not be true in another instance so if humans can't get it right I doubt very much that a program which all AI is we'll be able to completely replace humans and because it's electronic in nature it'll be prone to be breaking down and all kinds of errors so you still need humans that happened knowledge whatever specialty that that AI is in and you're also going to need technicians that will know how to configure the AI maintaining and troubleshoot

The vast majority of people are unimaginative. So the idea that in the future people will have all this time to create only applies to a small percentage of the population. The vast majority just want to put hammer to nail. And those occupations will no longer exist. And will AI not compete with the small percentage of people who create? If AI is constantly learning wouldn't it be able to create at a level beyond humans? For instance, let's say an AI writes a novel. It then checks reviews for its novel and learns what readers liked and disliked about it. Making adjustments in future novels. How would a human writer compete while processing and learning so much slower than the AI? I believe the future with AI will be closer to the Terminator where AI determines that humans are the problem and to save the planet it must destroy humans.
