A good hardware shop that sells a selection of springs will have a piece of equipment to measure spring rate of any random spring within the range of that particular piece of equipment, and then give you a range of options to either loosen/match/tighten up the firmness of the shift.

You might have some luck with the springs used for bass drum pedals on drum kits (you can get them in a bunch of different tensions and look identical to that).

Springs not on McMaster's endless option inventory? still love to see the growth of the crew at DDE Factory HQ. Edelbrock made the only short shifter I liked for my civic EG back in the day - had a nice bend to make it more towards the driver and the throw was just right. I do know what style Mike is talking about that will cause more mis-shifts.

For the springs you need three things; 1) spring tension, 2) diameter 3) length. To get tension use a force gauge. To get length use a caliper. McMaster-Carr is your friend when you need special parts

I remember watching the V8 Supercars years ago (back when it was still good to watch) and they were racing at the Adelaide 500 (310 ish miles), outside was about 30°c (86°f) but inside the cars it was up ove 50°c (122°f). About 3/4 of the way through the race 1 of the drivers came around turn 9 and blacked out due to the heat and ended up in the wall ... luckily it happened where it did because he was on the exit of a hairpin, if it'd happened at turn 8 or the run to 9 he would've been going stupidly fast. For a reference, look up "Adelaide turn 8 crashes" to see the speed of the corner that Leeds to a heavy braking zone for 9
