People at SE forums and reddit who are just "no everything's alright it's perfect" is a big part of the problem IMO. Any negative experience feedback is drowned out and shot down with "well I like it". Steam numbers are lower (sure they're not accurate but they do show a downward trend), a lot of people say their friends no longer play. Last time there was a free 4 days event I checked it out and it felt like the only people that stuck around are ERPers

My underlying gripe with 14 is that I wish they would change up the patch cadence; x.0 is MSQ time, x.1 is raid, x.2 is crafter time, x.3 is raid time, x.4 is more crafter time, x.5 is final raid, then they clean it up with an x.55 if needed (it never changes). FFXIV is great and I've been playing it since 1.0, but it's getting stale in its presentation by doing the same thing every expansion (just a slightly different flavor depending on what content they add or remove). Maybe I've just been playing 14 for too long and need to move on and let newer players enjoy it for what it is, but I really feel they need to shake things up and with Dawntrail being the springboard for a whole new story arc; this expansion feels like the perfect opportunity for Square Enix to do that.

I feel the exact way you do. I genuinely believe they will eventually add wow like content for raiders because clearing a tier and waiting 6 months to do anything else is crazy. I cant believe we pay monthly for this game to take forever just do the same content cycle over and over
@voldemortak
@voldemortak Жыл бұрын
The main problem with FF14 is that you need to pay a monthly sub for a couple of hours of MSQ, time-gated gear progression and raids and no worthwhile side content in patches released every 3-4 months. No wonder ERP is so popular in the game since standing in Limsa is 80% of what players do.

What new side content is there tho? The only new thing they added was the private island, which is basically WoW garrison. Criterion is worthless, you do it maybe a couple of times for the challenge then never touch it again. The new Deep Dungeon is a bit better, but once I got the title for soloing it week 1 of release I never looked back. Relic weapon grind has been completely removed in EW. Treasure maps have been the same since HW. Dungeons have been the same since HW and would be worthless if they didn't give you tomes for the weekly cap. Trials and alliance raids have been the same since 2.0 and give no real incentive to play them more than once for the story/challenge. Crafting and gathering has been the same since 2.0. FATEs have been the same since 2.0 and only really made somewhat worthwhile in ShB with the gemstones. Blue mage is just a way to reuse content, same as Khloe's book and Unreal raids. Housing is inacessible to players because Squenix just refuses to make it instanced. Leveling alts is just spamming the highest level dungeon you can do on repeat. Mount/transmog farming is made less rewarding since the (extremely overpriced) cash shop exists. Beast tribes have been the same since 2.0 and they are a chore, repeating the same 3 quests every week. PvP is a joke.

@voldemortak

@@anteprs7908 Again, there is no relic content in EW, getting 1500 tomes and/or doing old manderville quests is not something I would consider "worthwhile casual content." Island is not housing, it is just a WoW garrison, meaning you have like 2-3 spots where you can put your pre-made buildings and that's about it. Doesn't even have the marketboard in it, so it is actually worse than the garrison in its utility and reason to exist. People only ever do PvP when a new season starts for the glamour, it is pretty much dead after that. Appartments are a complete waste of time, you get a single room with a hard 100 item limit. I am sure most people would rather have no housing than this joke of a system where the really desirable houses (medium and large plots) are limited to a couple hundred plots per server in a game with over a million players. The housing system is in fact so terrible in its conception, that even if you manage to somehow get a house, that house is now holding you hostage since it will get demolished if you stop playing the game for any reason and cannot log in, and if you are gone for long enough, you will lose every single item that was in the house alongside the plot itself. I don't think I have seen a worse housing system in any game ever, it has been a constant complaint from the vast majority of players who have been asking for a solution that is not "add more houses" ever since HW. Idk if by hunt you mean actual S-rank elite hunting, but if you do, that content has some of the most toxic, unfriendly and selfish players in the game with people either not waiting, not helping spawn the monster, reseting aggro, etc. so if that's considered "casual content" it says a lot about the casual playerbase.

They should remove the level and item sync in old raids and dungeons so that the current gear you grinded for is actually useful and they should also get perks like for example status effects like dealing burn damage over time and or lightining temporarily stunning enemies you can also implement crafting in this somehow. this can diversify every job and player for example like your samurai can do something different than the other samurai.

My thoughts exactly. I also hate when people start trying to bring up the fact that other games have been coming out this year and how 2023 is the best year for gaming. Or how Yoshi encourages people to take breaks and play other games. The way I see it is people *are* playing those other games and just not coming back to FFXIV even when content patches are dropping because that content just doesn't have enough to retain players or give them reason to log in or stay subbed.

The Storys conclusion from Endwalker was great, and felt like a Rewarding Journey, but now I'm moving on. The biggest NoNo for me was the alleged Community. Also Dawntrail doesn't look interesting to me in the slightest. Jobs have been dumbed down so they feel mundane to play.. And regarding Dawntrail: The Pictomancer Job Reveal straight off look out of place (skill wise). Turn the Saturation up even more xD. Anyways, great Video!

After completing EW bk in 2021, I felt satisfied. I was willing to ride out one more patch cycle. I knew EW wasn't ever going to be the last expac, FF14 is so insanely popular that it will prbly run for another decade or 2. I'm was/am aware of that....Fast forward to Dawntrail, which I wasn't even remotely hyped for. (I even forgot to preload the expac on the 27th of June bc I wasn't even thinking about FF14 at all.) I completed the MSQ a week ago. It was fine. Not rly good or bad. Just fine. The zones were alright. Nothing special rly. Some new boss mechanics were kind of neat. However, now that I'm bk to the endgame cycle, I just don't care about FF14 anymore. I've played since patch 3.4 or 3.5 or so. Dawntrail was FF14s perfect chance to break away from the formula of the past 11 years but they did nothing at all that feels new or fresh. At this point, the game's gameplay is a relic of a bygone era and I guess I no longer care for MMO gameplay. Will FF14 ever die? I don't think so. Most players are more than content with what the game has offered over the past 11 years and continues to offer. It's "fast-food" entertainment at this point. It's predictable, consistent and offers it's satisfied playerbase comfort. It's just not a formula that works for me anymore.

I've been playing FFXIV since SB, 4.1 or 4.2(can't really remember clearly). I've been a savage raider since 5.1 and really enjoyed the ShB Eden Savage raids, and even made my own static in 6.2. However, ever since clearing and finishing gear-ups for 6.4 tier, I've been taking a looooooooong break from the game. Haven't even touched 6.5 MSQs. And I do think the gear problems were one of the reasons why I grew so tired of the game. I worked really hard for all the 5.2/5.4/6.0/6.2/6.4 tiers to farm gears for jobs I'm interested in. However, for every single one of those tiers, once the tier is over, I had to do craftings and farmings all over again. About in 2 weeks after the new tier drop, I, who have raided hard for the last tier, and my friends, who haven't even bothered with the last tier, would be back down to the same set of crafted gears. The only difference was whether they were pentamelded or not. I was fine with it when I was still fresh into savage raiding, but after the "rinse and repeat" as you describe it, I got to this point where it all felt pointless to work hard for clearing and farming. Why bother spending at least 8 weeks to get all these gears when they will turn into just some glamour gears once the new tier is out? It became especially hard when I started my own static, since gear distribution was one of the major issues. If one of the member dropped all of a sudden, I often had to find a paid substitute to clear with us and yield the gear chests for the week. All the stress, effort, and hard work - ultimately for nothing unless I'm going for the upcoming ultimate raid(which I usually don't; I can't afford the time it usually takes to clear). While I agree that catch-up gears are necessary for the late-starter and/or other more casual players, I also think the reward system for high-end players need a pretty big change at this point. Crafted pentamelded are all well and good. I just want the devs to consider the time and effort and high-end raiders took over PF or with their static members to farm all those savage gears. Getting an end-game BiS set within the tier is utterly pointless under the game's reward system right now.

Core of the game is the main scenario, around it is scenery: beautiful music, finite identity progress, dailies, socializing. A difficult dungeon system on infinite-reset yielding exclusive gameplay possibilities leaves out the main audience and is thus permanently stressful in general, let alone the toxicity magnet. It's better to weed out players like you that cannot even see a game's philosophy and think of game design within its terms. Examples could be the NPC world being more alive, better community connectivity and world events, fixing some spaghetti code. By the way, the entire casualness helps me to be more confident when I make a mistake and the group wipes. This makes me believe people avoid hardcore not because of the lack of incentives. The in-game musical instrument and the people I got a chance to talk with also gave me a clearer understanding of music as a whole, this saved my life at one point, so there can be some magic in socializing as well. Sooner or later, a video game is finite and I agree with your boredom. And whenever this point arrives, it is time to move on.

But it's not dying and not everyone - or even a majority - "hate" it right now. Just an EXTREMELY loud and vocal minority recently empowered by clickbaiting content creators. I know some people call him a shill, but Mr Happy has been the most level headed in all this, pointing things have been worse (HW actually), but also better, and that this is kind of middling and he hopes it improves. "These are the problems with the game and if you don't agree, you deserve a dead game." This is why people get dog-piled. Not because they actually critique the game but because they think their critiques are correct. Like, of all the things you mentioned, the only thing that I would agree with is that gearing up is sort of boring. I'd like to see savage gear to better so it's not (usually) outdated by the next set of crafted gear. I'd like to see gear sets with unique properties that I can upgrade through the expansion... But like, yeah, especially the idea that expansions need to change up. 'cause, nah. If I want a different radically different experince that what I'm getting, I'll play a different game. Meanwhile, I feel the worst part is the lack of difficult solo content... You know, being one of those weirdos that like the social aspect of MMOs but absolutely hates actually playing the game part with other people. But I ain't pretending that would "stop the game from dying".

The only points I can understand and sort of agree with is the gearing. It's true that gear has no meaning outside savage reclears or extreme farming because everything else is synched. Another point I agree with is PvP needs its own armor system and builds to.make it different and not feel like a PVE unstance where you can PvP. Regarding raid fights, I disagree to an extent. Fights have become more complex and even though it's all about to find the safe spot, it does not translate to difficulty. For example, if you do P8S, finding the safe spot as you said is not gonna cut it. You beed to know ehat you are doing, why and when. I have seen these so called "good mechanics" in other raida feom other games and it's more or less the same with some mix in between like "boss is now invulberable, kill those adds" FF14 is super sucessful wheeter you like it or not and this is why they play it safe. Does it has problems? Absolutely, 24 men raid not being in savage, gear, pvp. But at the end of the day is a safe and stable game

My biggest problem with FFXIV was always the narrative that people could leave WoW and come to it as a replacement. A few years ago everyone was representing the game as something WoW players could come to as "refugees" as if it provided the same MMORPG elements, which it clearly lacks as far as meaningful gear progression goes. Yoshi-P saying that people should just quit playing and come back when they want to play the game again is kind of a head scratcher given the concept of what an MMO is supposed to be (in my opinion) with things to progress towards.

Know what could have made a great Final Fantasy MMO? Crystal Chronicles. It already had a very Final Fantasy environment, action gameplay mechanics that would have worked with the time's already faster-than-MMO internet access (action RPG Phantasy Star Online was out on the Dreamcast before it!), and designed with multiplayer AND replaying earlier areas in mind! They should have moved forward with that series; instead they demake the first game into a half-baked multiplat.

I do agree with the gearing issue. A new patch comes out and boom there is new BIS which I don't care all that much about because I don't do savage or ultimates. I just get the tomestone stuff from daily roulettes, gear up one or two of each job class (tank, heals, melee, caster...) to unlock and enjoy the newest content available. My go to's right now are GNB for tank, WHM for heals, BLM for caster and RPR for melee so no point in a unique materia'd out set for SMN or RDM. After this, I go back to those older grinds like Eureka, mount collecting and relic weapons. I also agree with the homogenization of jobs. This is the reason I only bother with gearing up one or two of each job class. The small differences currently in tanks or healers only really show up in a savage or ultimate. In the day to day routine stuff a set of lowest-to-enter unmodified gear along with knowing how to properly play the job is enough. My only question is since I started playing in the summer of 2021, how would this compare to the general complaining that occurred between SHB 5.XX and EW release? The content creators I watched at the time were excited for the huge influx of sprouts and were being patient due to the previous year of set-backs. Plus I was only watching content that was relevant to where I was in the game so I didn't see the end game creators that were in the lull between major content releases. Overall good honest take.

You argue that wow changes things but how many times has them adding new battle systems come to bite them in the ass and had a whole bulk of the community leave, they cant just redesign an entire new system at the drop of a hat if we hate it. You say take a risk, why? What is the benefit? It will be different right? That is essentially what you are asking for. Will it be fun? Not just different. If you are arguing that just difference is equated to fun I have to decline. I also played a plethora of other mmos. With massive amounts of different ways to upgrade gear. On your why just wait for restrictions to be taken off? Cause I LIKE TO RAID! I like doing challenging content, I like to do savage/ultimate when they drop. You ask for gear/things that change the rotation but that also brings an issue, balancing. While I have my issues with where classes are going I get what they are trying to do but I still dislike it. A lot of your repeats are with the stand and resolve sound like exact repeats of that lynx video. DSR was a greatly designed fight, top was a great fight. I loved p10s. The entire problem is that this is all opinion right. It is your/my opinons/others. But you def come off as mine is right yours is wrong near the very end with the (You deserve a dead game for liking it as is!). In the end it is an opinion, you say it will be a dead game just like many have said WoW will become a dead game. It is a lot of what youtube always does. I played mmos like that already and I quit for a reason. I got tired of ladder progression and so many games like that already exist they are not in the minority by any means. I think it is a hard pill to swallow that XIV became a game that is essentially a theme park some people ride 1 ride and then no more. Some ride everything and get more time out of it. But a lot of people I personally know quit other mmos because they couldn't keep up anymore. Log in everyday, farm this item, do these dailies not 3-4 times a week, every single day. Oh well new changes again, guess what your class sucks now. Get ready to do a new class that you need to farm a shit ton for. This gear is no longer bis farm this new piece for 5 weeks. You are not good in this fight too bad. Upgrading gear with chances of failing, having randomized stats/abilities. Keep farming till you get what you need. I don't want it, I don't want wow, lost ark, bdo, eso, guild wars. Those games already exist. I want to get on ffxiv log in then decide what I want to do, not have the game decide what has to be done. I do not want a huge checklist I need to do everyday then by time I am done I am like fuck it, I am too tired to even continue. I have no issue with getting bored on FFxiv. I have before and I put the game down. Come back later have fun again and do w.e it is I feel like doing till I feel like stopping again. People act like this is the end of days but then again this happens every expansion. People have been making the same claims about tomes since HW / Stormblood. Is the game perfect no, does it need more meaningful content yes. I just do not want the game to dictate so much of what I have to do and have gear become this end all be all item that you need to touch anything.

Eh, game is doing fine, still more populated than it was in the HW/StB days... My server (Ultros) used to not have queue times during patch content, and over the last few months and even today when I went to log in (Keep in mind, the server capacity has increased since HW/StB) I was 30th in queue to get in. I think all the content creators need to chill out with the "game dying" clickbait. The game is still leaps and bounds more populated than it used to be, and we are about to get a major expansion within the next year. The lull always happens around this point in time of an expansion's lifecycle and some content creators have already basically admitted to their streams they don't engage in every piece of content that gets put out with each patch (Xenos reading the 6.5 patch notes was a bit eye-opening for me when he kept saying "I don't do that stuff" to a bunch of the content updates)... A lot of what people are whining about are things that they whined about last expansion for being too grindy as well, which is kinda hilarious. TL;DR - It's not dying, it's not going to all of a sudden crash and burn, and every single one of you complaining will be back for Dawntrail and will probably find that spark again and be all hype about it again. I've been playing this game since ARR, I've seen this exact scenario play out amongst the player base almost every patch cycle, just relax.

Two possible ways to look at this: 1) They know damn well the game is fine and is not "dying" or in trouble. But there's nothing **they** are personally interested in talking about, but they still want to create content that gets views/engagement, so they start drama farming. 2) Their view of the game is truly so narrow-minded that they think the things they're interested in is what **everyone** else in the game is interested in. They have no idea that millions of others are playing the game for a variety of different reasons, and enjoying themselves as much now as ever. In any case, it's gross to me that people who claim to love FFXIV would want to put out such an irresponsible and negative message about it. There's PLENTY of other things they can talk about which would be much more constructive, while still critical. But they choose the lazy, bottom of the intellectual barrel "doom-and-gloom" route. Why? Again, they know it gets more engagement/views. Again, it's gross.

When the patches were every 3 months you really didn’t notice as much the gear issue. Always content dropping. Always having something to do was great. This expac feels like it got the shadowlands treatment. 4-5 months between patches. 8-10 months between new 8 man raids. I’m hoping that next expac they go hard with dungeons and being able to increase the difficulty with better rewards and back to a 3 month patch cycle. I think if they stick to a 4-5 months patch cycle you will see very few people playing after the first 6 months.

I agree with some of your points but you lost me when you said that you as yourself why are you doing this and that savage gearing is pointless. Keep in mind savage raiding is OPTIONAL , what you get out of it varies from person to person . One person might just have fun doing challenging content , another might just want to show off to everyone that they are a savage raider, some people do ultimates , it’s not up to square Enix to tell you what you should get out of it . Yes I do wish the armor had other uses , like in F11 they had a huge instanced area called dynamis, perhaps they should make some huge exploratory instance where your gear matters, or idk

they did take risk with Island Sanctuary and Criterion Dungeon for Endwalker. The content is a miss for some and a hit for some (your case it's a miss but they did try). So your first argument could make people doubt your next points even though most of your points afterwards make sense (for example the gearing system). I haven't played WoW for a long time so I don't know how people despise Chorgast, but for IS and CD, most of my friends like them tho. However, I do aggree with you on there is no incentive to gear up in FF, it's just pointless ^__^.
@shawnscouten5184
@shawnscouten5184 Жыл бұрын
Island sanctuary isn’t really repeatable though, you just go through it, reach the cap in a few days, then wait for the next patch, sure, you can farm for the mounts, but that takes a few weeks at most, its not much. Criterion has a different problem, most people like the content itself, but it has 2 problems, 1, the rewards give people no reason to run it, so pf is dead post week 1. 2 savage mode is not a mode and is more tedious restrictions slapped onto normal mode, it shouldn’t exist the way it is now. Adding rewards to savage might help problem 1, but it runs into problem 2, as savage is so tedious and boring that even the rewards might not give it a life in pf unless something changes. Savage should be what normal mode is now, and normal mode should be slightly under extreme difficulty to fill that midcore content niche that is sorely missing from ff14.

@@shawnscouten5184 I don't want to debate if the content is worth your time or not. I just want to mention that CBU3 did take a risk in making new content (which is the first point in the video), it's just a hit or miss for some. For me, I like Criterion because I only have 2 hours max per night to play the game so I don't want the repeatable content. However, I know this is MMO and people will have different perspective and maybe they want something to take their time. My point is that, even though I agree with most points in the video, it's just if the video starts with the point of problem of gearing system, then it will give people a better impression that the video is right, instead of starting with a point which is easy to counter. I do agree that FF needs a revamp, but I hope they won't focus too much on the grinding section. Cheers

To be honest, FFXIV, which respects players' time, is not a suitable MMORPG for solo broadcast creators. There are numerous MMORPGs and various RPGs in the Twitch category, but the MMORPG FFXIV has recently seen a significant decline in viewership and popularity. As always, WoW and LostArk are still the two main MMORPGs, followed by BDO. The two major games, WoW and LOA, are popular games with a large average number of viewers, and when a large-scale update is made, more than 300,000 people flock to the game. However, FFXIV is inferior on average, and even with large-scale updates, it lacks buzz and firepower compared to the games I mentioned, and that's because the cycle of respecting players' time is very long. This is both an advantage and a disadvantage, and this directly leads to a lack of content for mid-core players. Personally, I think that FFXIV's popularity has decreased significantly due to various complex issues since COVID-19 was lifted, but the precursor to that was about a year ago. And this phenomenon is still ongoing. Looking at the categories listed, FFXIV ranks in the low to mid range. The same goes for KZbin live streaming. There are fewer people broadcasting and fewer people watching. Due to the nature of MMORPGs, there is a repetitive cycle where player numbers increase as new expansion packs are released and then decrease as the months go by. However, as FFXIV goes through this cycle, the number of players is decreasing, and the number of creators and viewers is also decreasing. This means there is a problem with the game.

Yes - the game has some issues, but it hasn't had any MAJOR issues come to fruition. Simply put, it's just business as usual. Great take, and brought up a lot of good points. Very underrated take on gearing in FFXIV. Legitimately, when I take into account, that the majority of not 90% of all content is level synced, so u truly don’t even get to enjoy the gear outside of fasted savage clears or the occasional savage/extreme trial parse monkey behavior. The gear doesn’t really do much for you in this game. It isn’t fun or motivating even, to spend months as a non-static player hating life in the party finder, only to get to enjoy the fruits of your labor for a very short window of time. It’s just not worth the stress for gear that is meaningless next patch. No longevity, or reason to take the next step as a player because the rewards are pretty bad. (In the fact that a new patch invalidates them). Sucks, but it’s true. The people complaining that this is an issue at the end of every expansion, need to clam up. Valid criticism is NEEDED at this point. This is a great topic of conversation for the community. People want more middling content to feel like there’s a reason to pay a sub. Something in. The middle of normal right man raids and extreme trials, a more gradual difficulty that prepares a new player that is trying to step into the deep end-but also rewards the player that wants some form of progression outside of scheduling raids with people to able to clear content. It’s about damn time! Dawn Trail needs to have more content to keep regular players of the game more involved. Period.

It makes me so mad that they never bothered experimenting more with crafted gear in how it relates to raiding. We got one attempt at the start of HW (which was horribly botched to be fair), and since then they just gave up. We have expert crafting now though that prevents EVERY CRAFT IN THE GAME JUST BEING A MACRO. Why have they not tried to at the bare minimum have a raid or other content drop loot that can be crafted into raid-equivalent gear with enough good RNG? I desperately want crafting to be more than just a pyramid scheme, since "high end crafting" just don't exist in any form right now. If you want to make money with crafting you're often better off crafting old stuff or furniture, both of which don't even require good gear.

Where are we getting the gear from then? How long is it relevant? A year? An entire expansion? I here this sediment a lot. My issue with it is that no one that presents it seems to know what they want other then this. Personally you might say well I want savage gear to be BiS for an entire 2 years. Nothing better will drop and the rest of the raids are cosmetics. In that instance I am still just doing raids. I am still using the same fights over and over to gear any alt. Cannot say it really solves any underlining issues that are being addressed. Do you want an alternative to tomes? What is that? Will it keep the duties healthy populated? What are the suggestions, cause I been on and off this game for 10 years and I am very well understand the core of the game does not change. What is it you want to happen? Is it really going to be fun or just different that become boring later then another part of the populace asks for it to be changed again. At that point what you are asking for sounds more like WoW where the systems get changed a lot. New power systems are always added and changed. The problem with that is that an entire different part of the community hates that to hell. In order for them to change things they have to make sure duty finder is still populated. You can argue trust however some want to not go slow or play with others. I very well understand what people are saying but at times I wonder if they have any ideas how to replace these systems. Also take in that a ladder system is a double edge sword, meaning new players/returners get Fd for not playing upon release. I play ffxiv for this reason, I don't want lost ark again, I don't want to be in bdo ,elder scrolls online, or WoW. Where I felt inclined to log in or I was penalized for not playing. I am so exhausted from it. While I am open to suggestions to criticism, I do not want another paste of MMOs I already left.

Nah, I think the real problem is that they've been focusing too much about story and solo this expansion and that's why this expansion feels especially bad compared to the previous ones. The story is great but that's not all this game is about. There is very little actual MMORPG in Endwalker, especially for non-raiders. It makes the game feel lonely, and players with no FC or new to the game just end up playing alone and getting bored. There are limits to how much they continue pretending this is the same as a single-player Final Fantasy game without hurting the community and I hope they realized that before more FCs die. The gearing process has always been like that, and yes it could be better and I wish gear wasn't stat sticks... but that has never bothered me to the point of being so bored with the game, and having tuned into WoW recently, I can tell you that between tome vendors and the Great Vault slot machine and raids that don't let you loot a boss again if you looted nothing the first time, I will take FFXIV's gearing any day of the week. I also gotta disagree about them not trying new things and I don't know why that keeps coming up. They did try new things over the years with Criterion, the island, blue mage, Eureka, CC, etc. and they are apparently trying new battle content for Dawntrails. But in Endwalker Criterion ended up being content for nobody, Variant is just solo content, Island is a World of Warcraft garisson themed around farming and Tataru and the relic weapon are just watching cutscenes. Endwalker's only win was Crystaline Conflict, and people don't even want to do it because they can't queue with friends. So people are just doing the same old content.

As you mentioned, the 3rd division needs to overhaul the entire equipment system, even the raid 24 tokens system is poorly designed and ignoble. The Tomestone system is completely obsolete and outdated, and it should be abolished. What makes the game so boring is that they don't take risks, everything becomes predictable, patch cycles are delayed, but the casual content has a very short lifespan. Furthermore, after Stormblood, they kept homogenizing the jobs, and in Endwalker, even the casual instances are excessively simple. They homogenize the entire system behind these instances. The bosses have huge hitboxes or even no positional requirements, AoEs deal minimal damage, and you can stand in them even while DPSing. You can stay in three consecutive AoEs, and it won't necessarily result in a KO. This is true even in the new 24-man raid Thalia, which arguably has the worst progression and design seen in a 24-man raid to date. They've placed huge markers with directional arrows everywhere, and the timings are so long that you have 10,000 times the time to position yourself. Nothing kills you even after making mistakes. Between the 1st and 3rd boss, you only walk a few meters through mini-area that are "just visuals and nothing else." The last boss is a recycling of Eden floor 12, both in its 3D skeleton and combat design, "copying the spells of other bosses." They forcefully stripped away everything that gave certain jobs their charm. RNG has completely disappeared, DoTs are on the verge of extinction, and they've reduced jobs to a state of brain death when they were so unique before. Now, the majority of jobs are the same "but with a different visual flavor," and it genuinely harms FFXIV. Honestly, I love the game, and with every patch, despite everything being predictable, for nine years, I felt great excitement in discovering new patches. However, in Endwalker, the homogenization of jobs, the oversimplification of casual content, and a patch cycle averaging 4.4 months for casual content with a playtime of 2-3 hours, made me truly dislike all patches from 6.1 to 6.5 of Endwalker. Much of the content wasn't even fun, and many instances felt like flavorless chewing gum. If on top of that, jobs become flavorless chewing gum as well, and there's nothing to engage with in casual content, it's entirely normal to get bored in FFXIV. If the developers continue to be stubborn and stick to this poor iteration without having the audacity to backtrack slightly when it doesn't please the player base, the game won't have a bright future. It won't die but will become a "niche" game. Several changes are essential. Major patches must deliver better and longer-lasting content. Casual content is far too forgiving and "no-brain," and they need to slightly raise its difficulty level. They should revert to the job design of Stormblood/Shadowbringers, abolishing the 120-second burst window and returning to 60, 120, and 180-second windows. Support jobs should regain satisfying support abilities. Melee jobs have too much DPS compared to others, even though they've been simplified and have no uptime losses, they often have strong support kits for the DPS they provide. They must fix Summoner, which is no longer fun and only requires three brain cells to play, in creating this abomination, they alienated a community that loved Summoner. They should abolish the Tomestone system, allowing equipment to automatically sync between all jobs while changing appearance and stats. They should rework the game's netcode to reduce server ticks and address related issues. Drastically reduce the global cooldown (GCD) by offering GCDs of 1-2 seconds at most. Rework cast/recast speed reduction stats. Remove a lot of tank/DPS roles team healing/hot spells and nerf too strong selfhealing effect (war-pld). Healers also need reworking. There's still much more to say, but we'll stop here.

They make every class fulfill the same role, and don't even get me started on the healing. Also the MMO market has been trending this way for a long time. As more options for games come out, MMOs become a risker investment each passing year. To recoup costs you need to cast a wider net or go to microtransactions to actually play the game, XIV and WoW went with the wider net instead of placing mandatory microtransactions compared to most other MMOs. It is sort of telling that the likely top three MMOs are WoW, FFXIV, and OSRS, MMOs that are over a decade old.

I'd like to think Square knows that something needs to change but given that they have made close to no improvements to how loot works for 10 years I think they have a heavy slant towards playing it safe and usting this game to make up for the losses of their other releases that turn out to be financial flops. It feels like they are fine with FF XIV being "okay enough" instead of trying to future proof it.

Funny thing is that they are future proofing the game. The trusts, duty support, elimination of friction, and the biggest of them all the graphical update (aka we are going from early PS3 graphics to mid-PS4 era graphics). We have also seen them work on some backend issues, the buff cap for example is being worked on (and why it was buggy come 6.5 leaving us why th some hilarious interactions). Looks like they planned EW to be the futureproofing expansion since the biggest draw, the MSQ ended with 6.0 and have been taking it safe while XVI, XVI DLC, and the backend issues are being fixed. Futureproofing is something that has to happen and I guess EW was the time to do it.
@jslaughter95

they are absolutely playing it safe, they are legit afraid to take any kind of risk with this game, it's been on the same patch cycle since HW. If you look at class balance? They never explicitly nerf classes to bring them in line with others, they just buff all the other classes to match the OP one. The problem with this "noone likes to be nerfed" balancing method, is that when they do absolutely nothing to change the difficulty curve, because the raid tiers have been the same difficulty, also since HW, the game gradually gets easier and easier every single expansion. They even decided "oh no, the numbers are getting too great for the engine to handle, we have to do a stat squish!" at the beginning of EW. The problem with this, is once again, with their balance method of only buffs and hardly ever nerfs, the numbers as we are starting to see, are getting back to ShB numbers making the stat squish fucking useless to begin with and it just wasted their own time and resources.

Game isn't dying. Content just isn't worth doing. The game's issues Yoshi P cultists prefer to ignore or simply cannot see are quite large. Or maybe the issues are not as clear to newer players as opposed to Veteran's that have been around since 2.0/3.0. Heavensward was peak gameplay and the slow downward spiral of pruning/homogenization/simplification began. Over time we have: -Lost Accuracy/Parry over expansions. Good or bad they completely scrapped attributes in favor of simplicity. Yet can't give us clear indication of what a characters crit hit rate is. -Crossclass skills -Limitations of materia melds -All classes dumbed down to play the same and share the same CD timers of 60s and 120s. The abhorred 2 minute burst meta that permeates the lackluster combat. -Poor gearing system. Gear ultimately doesn't matter. Only your ilvl. None of your gear changes anything about how you play. -Gil is pretty useless. Until Tomestones are scrapped Gil is primarily a Crafter thing outside of glam gear and crafted gear. -Severe gutting and pruning of job classes. See Exhibit A Dark Knight and Exhibit B Kaiten. All hail the future of auto crit. -Each expansion has less content then the ones before it. Less dungeons/trials/exploratory zones/content for crafters. -Mediocre Journeyman Writers have created retcons, pacing issues and overall poor writing in Endwalker when previous writing in other expansions ranged from decent to amazing. -Same content formula from previous expansions is indeed getting predictable and old. -Recycled mechanics in battle encounters. -Game lacks "moments of glory" for player classes that sets that class apart. Individual Limit Breaks are a must. Shared Limit Breaks are trash. -All classes have adopted a DPS Warrior playstyle. Arguably worse for healers with a 1 button rotation. -Grinding gear is mute if you wait till the next expansion to skip months of grind to get your high level gear in mere days with just poetics. -Watered down tome grinds for relic steps. -Abandonment of Diadem, Eureka, Bozja, and soon Island Sanctuary. -Housing Lottery and poor housing systems -Difficulty of content only comes in 2 forms. Very easy or very hard. And both offer terrible rewards for doing content. No middleground to bridge the gap. -Previous encounters dumbed down to account for their trust system. -Skills requiring some degree of strategy or placement are simplified or removed entirely. Say goodbye to status effects and cone AoEs. -Lack of enmity management. -Healers with 20 instant cast heal buttons and 1-2 attack buttons. -Dead on arrival content that can be beaten anywhere between ONE DAY and up to 2 weeks. Content in Square's other MMO FFXI could easily take at minimum weeks to months. -Removal of meaningful buffs/debuffs/DoTs -Lackluster Blue Mage updates after 2 years. Launched with 100 spells and 30 stages in Masked Carnivale and when it updates you only learn 10-20 more spells and only add 1 additional MC stage. -Cash shop cosmetics could have easily been implemented as drops or raid rewards. Cruise Chaser is a fine example. -Encouragement to take breaks but if you don't resub within 45 days the game will destroy your house or rescind your FC privileges if you have other members. Longtime players are getting bored and not burnt out. I think it is good more players speak out about these issues. Big name streamers who do not are only chasing after media tour invites for more content to make more money. The more players make noise the more it will be noticed. What was the slogan Yoshi P used back then? I remember. Never forget the fans. *Without them there would be no 'us'* Fun comes first. *If it isn't fun, you are doing it wrong. Never back down. *Always aim to amaze* Don't forget your roots. *It's what fans crave* Clearly they have forgotten. Emet-Selch: Remember us. Remember that we once lived.

All these videos about how 14 is dying is EXTREMELY similar to WoW's story a few years back. People be complaining about boring content or the game is too easy or not innovative enough to capture a new set of audiences. 14 is unique in the MMO world because of it's consistency and slow pacing IMO. So when people want new changes and not realizing that they're asking for something they won't recognize later on down the line, it'll be too late for regret. Out of most 'Endwalker' videos I've seen, you have solid ideas and actually seem to understand what's going on with FFXIV. You just needed to go a little further with it. The problem with Final fantasy XIV is there is NO PROGRESSION. It's so fundamentally backwards as a game that it's mind shattering. YES you level up, YES there's roles and classes, YES there's gear. But these things mean nothing at all your progress, your time spent in the game, all get deleted by the sync system. Hell you can't even gain experience because all dungeons have now become corridors and all trials have become hard to fail. Rewards? What are they going to give you? There's nothing to do with the gear you earn. There's nothing in gear but stats that do nothing but increase your damage or your ability to deal damage. So again, this isn't about rewards. This isn't about content, either. They could have a dog petting raid and people would do it provided there was something to chase. There is NO PROGRESSION. Because this game is only pretending to be an RPG. There are no unique effects on gear, there's no synergy between classes, hell today there's no need to even coordinate with a team as long as you know mechanics. There's no elemental damage, there are no types of physical damage (anymore), there are no weaknesses, there's no consideration for your party, there are no unique consumables, no job or character customization, no mechanics within party members, no unique job kits, no job or enemy identity, no unique or cool arenas, nothing. Jobs can easily be boiled down to rotations designed by Square Enix, rather than classes with unique tool sets. Tools that not even WoW has dared to streamline out of their classes. And it's such a damn shame. But this isn't an Endwalker problem. It's just something that has come up with this expansion because it's so egregiously empty that people can't help but notice it.

Still tryna wrap my head around how they went from FFXI's(2007) godtier gearing system to XIV's nothing matters. Ever since I started playing the game a bit more seriously in Stormblood with raiding, I instantly quit the hardcore life when I found out your gear is worthless once the new crafted gear comes out with the new raid tier. It's entirely pointless outside of bragging rights, and glam. It amazes me people are actually just fine with the same systems with a new coat of paint every single expansion(and throughout). I will say, they have taken SOME risks before via Island Sanctuary, Eureka, the new PvP mode. But the biggest issue with those is they(devs) have a tendancy to just stop expanding on said content once the next expansion is out. It's crazy to think the exact definition of Expansion doesn't apply here outside of MSQ, Level Cap, & New Areas. The gameplay loop has gotten stale, and I'm huffin' copium with Arthars at this point with his line of thinking: The reason EW is this lackluster is because they're working on something(s) new for 7.0 and onward. So right now none of these things matter, so it's a w/e thing to fill out what's expected in an expansions patches. Major copium yes, but remember the articles/interviews Yoshi-P had earlier this year...."A BIG change is coming" and we still dunno the full scope of that. Not here to defend the Devs, but I do believe there is still hope for the game. It's changed SO MUCH these last 13 years alone, I believe it can change even more given time for the better. Just a matter of what that change will be lol Hopefully more content to get us more engaged with the Overworld, a better gearing system, and to switch up the pacing of the gameplay loop in-general. Also, my vote goes to Merit Points being implemented, especially since they're considering what to do for Levels now that we're capped at 100 in 7.0 and assumingly beyond

@@ikeaira8701 Oh, there are always pros and cons. I'm was just saying FF11 is the opposite extreme which, imo, is far worse because it's still bad, it's just also annoying. FF14's is bad, but it's streamlined so at least it isn't obnoxious as well as bad. I'm honestly not sure I've seen a good gearing system in a very long time, though. MMOs just aren't really about the gear, and even a lot of single player games have had gear upgrades just be stat sticks that occasionally have some special perk that has you want to hold onto them a little longer (e.g. an elemental resist or absorb or status immunity). Remnant: From the Ashes and Remnant 2 are the only single player games I've played somewhat recently where the gearing was actually interesting, but completely different kind of game and looter-shooter, and the gearing there actually determines builds with some being OP as hell. So not really transferrable to an MMO well.
