omg! this helped me soooooo much! I tested all my clear gels, top coats, builder gels and polishes. I have flexible/ thin nails and I kept getting lifting. Long story short, my Base coat was flexible but my top coat was too rigid. My manicure has never lasted this long👄😙😙😙 thank you so much!!!

@@jessicav8207 I currently use Gelish Foundation and colors. I will use the foundation as a base and then color, and then top it all off with the foundation again. the only issue with using Foundation as a top coat is it can start to look stained or dirty after awhile. You can also try by Red Carpet Nails Foundation / base coat which you can buy at Ulta which is a little cheaper. These are the two that work best for me. www.sallybeauty.com/nails/nail-polish/top-and-base-coat/mini-soak-off-gel-nail-polish-foundation/SBS-004822.html www.ulta.com/fortify-protect-led-gel-base-coat?productId=pimprod2005910

The flexible one in this video looked like the Luxio gel polish, so I tried it. It worked for me! My gel usually lifts the same day or the next, but this one lasted a week.

I am a retired hair/nail/makeup tech. I got my license for hair and nails in 1981, I was 21 years old. I moved to a different state in 84, went back to school to get my extra hours and did, then took the nail course as well followed by Glamour and Theatrical makeup certification. Nails have always been my passion above everything else. Over the years I was able to take classes with Tammy Taylor, Back Scratchers, CND and some others. I wore acrylic nails for 30 years and did them every day at work. I never had a lifted or popped nail because of my training. I retired in 2004. Still kept doing my own acrylics then this weird product called "Gel" came out and it scared me to death, I had to learn something new, if only for myself. I've watched so many videos here on You Tube to learn how to use gel. I bought everything that I would need to do them and it sat for almost a year before I broke down and tried it out. I got it perfect the first time doing my own nails and tips. 2 years later, I am still doing gel on my own, grown out nails, only have a lifting problem on my right hand because I tend to get a little gel over the cuticle in a couple spots so I know it's me and what I"m doing wrong. I have been very lucky with my own nails and clients nails because I listen to what I"m told, try my own ideas and work them all together. These Hub videos are great! I've learned a lot from them, although I usually have to save them for later so I can watch them at my own speed, it's info overload sometimes. I still don't use gel polish, I have far too many bottles of regular polish but the "Blooming Gel" is attracting me enough to maybe give it a try. Thanks, Nail Hub, for teaching even us old dogs some new tricks! I keep Excel sheets, too, on my polish collection and makeup! I also use dot stickers so I can date every product that I buy.

Nice. You could always convert your normal polishes into gel too. Or maybe you just use a gel top coat on top so the colour lasts longer which is great too.

Or you could put down your bast coat, then regular nail polish (2 coats if you wish), but you have to let them dry completely, then gel topcoat. It’s called sandwiching.

This is super interesting! I’m a big old nerd too, I *have* to know everything about things! The excel spreadsheet is sooo something I’d do (aside from the fact that I’m obsessed with excel so I’m happy to find any excuse to use it!)! I was also taught to keep equally detailed notes on regular clients eg. their occupation- whether they use their hands a lot, have their hands in water excessively etc, nail conditions, their nail ‘journey’ since coming to me, problems we’ve addressed over time, what they like/don’t like etc. It is super annoying to be a regular at any professional place of business, whether it be salon or a doctor (I’ve had a doctor who literally acted like we were meeting for the first time every time despite seeing him every single month for 5 years), & have them forget that you exist & everything about you between each visit. So the first 10 minutes of each appointment is spent going through the same information over again...ugh! Make people feel special, like you’re taking notice of their needs & addressing them, they will return.

I'm not a nail tech and only do my own nails, but I have learned so very much from you. This video in particular was made just for me! My nails used to be so strong and long, but as I've aged, they've begun to thin, split and peel. I bought the IBD hard gel and a couple of sable hair brushes, and so far, I've had good luck with them. I watched your videos, and step by step, I managed to complete the process. The only problem is it takes so long, especially on the right hand. I'm waiting for your "magic" video so I can do them in an hour and do them perfectly. LOL. All kidding aside, you've been a God-send. thank you so much!

I bought the same hard gel and I have been struggling like no other. My nails bend quite easily when they get a certain length so initially thought it was a good idea. Any time I have tried it the finished product always chips and cracks and breaks away from my nail. Almost like flakey old paint on a wall. It’s crazy. Hopefully I can figure it out soon based on this video.

Oh Liz you are an angel & a nail guru! Hereditarily I have nails that bend in crazy ways. Some will curl down and under on one side while curling upwards on the other side and so forth. Just not pretty. But after a shower they would always lay so beautifully and I would rush to paint them as quickly as I could and put hard (rigid😁) top coat on in Hope's of holding the shape. The cracked look in my top coat a day or two later would always be a bummer. Now I know I was doing EVERYTHING wrong, and more importantly, why. THANK YOU LIZ 💅👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Sorry, accidentally hit return button and last comment I started sent. Anyway, after being ill for the past two years my nails have gone from 25+ years of acrylic nails, but when I started with the more medical incidents and bills, I self learned about gel polish and that took time for me to learn about certain brands, etc. After 4 years of being dedicated to one gel polish line brand and perfecting a 2-3 week nail job that lasted in a demanding, frequent handwashing/hand sanitizer Healthcare related job myself...suddenly my nails became to weak. I tried a HARD builder gel that for the past 10 months has been great. Now, not so much. I do use a great cuticle oil and a cuticle treatment hand cream daily, but cant hold even the builder gel by itself for LITERALLY a few hours of just around the house, but definitely not high physical activity to cause the gel to not only "shatter" like you mentioned...but be gone completely from the nail! This video popped up on the screen and by some saving grace not to mention your information, I may be able to save this less that claw-like suckers. I loved doing nail art...but for the time it takes to do, the nail has been obliterated. Now it sounds like nourishment and back to the more flexible type till they get healthy. Then I could possibly grow them back out with the hard gel? It will be testing my own arsenal of products to see what I have and what I perhaps need. I will have to see if there is a list similar to what you mentioned somewhere that lists products and types of nails best for. That would be helpful for us "DIY'rs" to see what they may be able to purchase online and still know what would be appropriate for their type of nails. Thank you again!

Wow, I really appreciate people like you who like to study and do research on these things... I hate to study lol. But this was so educational for me I'm definitely going to do this with all of my gel to investigate what they are, what they do and how they will hold up with staining and pressure thanks so much I really appreciate ur great video.

Sponge, Brilliant analogy! I'm a self taught nail art lover. Your channel really makes sense and helps a lot. No need for so much trial and error for me 😁 I totally love spreadsheets, I'd pay for a copy of yours 😁. Great idea! Would you please consider doing a video of your skin care regimen? Tyvm lyl x
