I hope Gen Z can avoid that path, lol. The desperation of women trying to find a guy immediately to have a kid while simultaneously raging at all men kinda reminds me of this gen z freak out over aging. I mean, the media lied to women my age about a lot of things, but as an adult you have to own your mistakes….not just blame patriarchy or whatever. When you get a bunch of cosmetic procedures done to augment your appearance, you don’t look young, you look like an older person trying to look young. It’s an uncanny valley effect, regardless of age. 60 or 25, if you see someone who clearly has had a lot of work done or 10 pounds of makeup on, you think “oh, that person’s trying to look young” and that makes them look older than they really are.

Her voice should've been youthful and hyperfeminine, but she sounds like she's getting ready for retirement. And on emotional level, that might well be the case. Even with her long term depression, I was surprised that her voice was just high pitched enough to pass for a female one at all. Back when Botox became available they said we should start before wrinkles start. I refused, probably due to cost at the time, but I now feel that botox and filler messes the skin elasticity and natural collagen to keep skin plump while young. Essentially removing natural antiaging properties, and causing early aging signs. The muscles in the face and the skin cant support itself without the chemicals, and overtime it does not listen to the chemicals.

As a guy that runs a KZbin channel for men's skincare, I obviously spend a lot of time looking at other content creator's online, and in skincare it's predominantly females. I totally agree that Gen Z is looking older than they should. I am truly worried about the skincare companies and 'influencers' that are pushing products onto youngsters (primarily young girls). Teenagers should not be using Retinol! I would love there to be a scientific study into the appearance of aging between the two groups. Social media has made youngsters feel they have to use products to look 'perfect' in this imperfect world. The guy you featured from TikTok is a perfect male example (I follow him and enjoy his content). I do look a bit older than him, but not by much. I'm 58yrs old. I guess my worry now is that Gen Z pick up on this older look and then double-down on having more treatment and expensive skincare to 'fix' the problem. Thanks for highlighting this issue Brett.
@peteryang89915 ай бұрын
A big issue is health factor. Gen Z life style is much less healthier. Honestly, Gen Z is still under 25. If you are under 25 you can reverse that aging process very quickly. This is due to aging is cause by something call cell decade. The meaning is that we need to conduct cell division to fix any damage to our body. Aging from a medical perspective is to do with the fact that after 25 your cell can only divide a certain number of time. (Roughly 80 to the best of my knowledge) Looking older is due to you are causing damage to your body at a rate faster compare to it can be fixed through cell division. This is a problem usually exist only among older people, especially among smokers. This is due to after the age of 25, you cell can only divide so many times (80 to the best of my knowledge), so the higher percentage of cell division you used, the slower your cell will divide, because it can divide fewer times. If you used up 50%, your division speed will decrease by 50%, you use up 90%, it will slow down by 90%. Therefore, you will start to look older. However, prior to the age of 25, your cell division rate is unlimited. This is biologically speaking, prior to 25 years old, you are still in your late teens. You are only fully biologically mature, by the age of 25. (This is also why army mostly use 18~25 years old in draft, because they can recover very quickly. After 25 years old, it start going down. For pro-athletic, anything over 30 years old is consider old) Before the age of 25, your cell division speed is at 100%, because you can divide unlimited time. So, for all those Gen Z talking about how Gen Z are aging badly and going into panic mode. They all still got time to reverse it. Start living a more healthy life style, and they will see themselves start looing younger (Kind of like when I was 16, I keep getting sick and I start to look very old. Some people think I am 40. But, after I fully recover, within about 6 months, I start to look younger and younger. And by the time I am in my senior year, I look like a teenager again, in fact during my senior year I was one of those boys that a lot of girls got a crush on. And now I am actually 40, I go to the bar and bartender ask for my ID and I am always loving it, because the look on the bartender's face is priceless, when I show them by driving license and I always laugh so hard.) However, the fact that Gen Z are looking older also show a danger trend. The meaning is that they probably won't live as lone. If they are looking so old pre 25 years old, where there cell division repair rate is at 100%, what will happen when they are over 25 years old and can only divide roughly around 80 times? (To go on record, after you used up all your cell division, you die.) The meaning is that the unhealthy life style of Gen Z will result in them using up that 80 times cell division quickly like a rock star burning through his money. So, after 25 they will age even faster and die even younger. So, if this trend is really true, it is very likely that most of us are going to out live most Gen Z.

PS: And speaking about makeup. I will agree that millennials women are probably giving gen Z more stress. I don't get to associate with people my own age a lot these days, so I don't know how it goes. But, I remember back in college. About 1/4 of all the girls look like movie stars or magazine cover model. Even compare to the boomer generation, millennial women in their 20s are insanely hot. A lot of women that are consider hot by younger generation such as Taylor Swift or Emma Stone. They are not hot by our generation's standard. Because, as a group in general, millennial women in their 20s are extremely attractive. So, the standard required to be consider as "hot" is much higher. And this got a lot to do with the fact that millennials in general are in much greater shape. People generally look their best, when they are in better shape. In fact, if you look at women that are soldiers or in law enforcement, those that are in their 20s. Female cops and female soldiers in their 20s got the highest percentage of attractive women, of all occupations. Why? Because, in addition to the fact that they are young, they are in excellent shape. And it is not even compare to millennials, it is also the same compare to boomers. Back in the 80s and 90s where boomers are in their 20s and 30s, the big title is things such as "America got an obesity problem" Because, boomers are generally over weight in a highly unhealthy problem, heart attack and high blood pressure is the number one killer, among boomers, during their 40s and 50s. However, here is the difference. Baby Boomer are the arrogant generation. Comparison Gen Z are actually more humble. So, they are more likely to look inwards and say "Wait a minute, what are we doing wrong. Why is our big sister from the millennial generation or our mom that is a millennial, looking so much younger and guys are still asking my big sister out on a date, but not me?" Comparison, Baby Boomer blame others, for example, they are the ones pushing for ideas such as TV and magazine portray an unrealistic beauty standard and real women doesn't look that way. But, as millennials, we know that is not true. Especially, those of us that went to college. We are aware, that real women indeed look like that. If anything, the beauty standard of Hollywood is too low, because the hottest girls we had in college, are way hotter compare to the hottest ones on TV. Compare to the average standard of millennial college girls, Hollywood dream girl such as Emma Watson, Natalie Portman, is just a 7. Not a ten. If we bring girls in college that are actually ten, Emma Watson will look plane in comparison. Emma Stone and Taylor Swift are both not consider as attractive back to when we were in our 20s. Taylor Swift is about my age. When she came out, she didn't came out as a dream girl. She wasn't consider as hot back then. She made it famous, due to she is a great country singer and people love her music. But, she wasn't thought of as attractive. Just not ugly. When I first heard that the younger generation of boys think Taylor Swift is hot I just thought "Seriously? Taylor Swift? I mean, sure she is a great singer and her music is great and Taylor Swift isn't ugly, but Taylor Swift is hot? Seriously?" But I think the baby boomer preach their problematic value to the younger generation. Millennials understand the boomers are just a bunch of big babies and ignore them. But, a lot of Gen Z took it to heart. And this play a major role for the trend going on among Gen Z right now.

Keeping your skin clean, using a 100% witch hazel toner, and a little lotion when your skin feels dry does wonders.

As a Gen Z fellow, I certainly don't claim 9/11, that happened before I was born... perhaps it's more of the fallout of 9/11 that could be creating this sort of situation? (i.e., greater global stress regarding foreign terrorism, increasingly centralized security, etc.) It would be interesting to compare this with Gen X and the Baby Boomers who grew up during the Cold War; the Millennials grew up after the end of the Cold War, though of course, they would have gone through the same sort of situation, merely at a different age. From personal experience, I would actually say that the pandemic and the effects of it contribute more to this phenomenon than anything to do with 9/11.

We were more active as children and probably had a more regular style of meal (more two parent households). They also make faces a lot more into their phone camera😂.
@reborka10 ай бұрын
@@TheBaumcmdefinitely agree that Gen Z was not taught how to regulate stress. I’m Gen Z and didn’t have anyone around me that had parents that taught them how to control their stress. I’m an anomaly since I came from an abusive household, so I’m speaking on what I’ve observed in nonabusive child-parent relationships. And Gen Z suffers with a savior complex further exacerbated by social media saying that if you’re not actively involved in social justice (though most of it is performative and something to post about) then you’re “part of the problem”. So no self regulation mixed with constant doomer mindset, it makes sense why Gen Z has chronic stress and anxiety. I’m not saying it’s right, just pointing stuff out that seems to correlate. Though, you’d think with a generation of people who love going to therapy so much they would’ve learned about radical acceptance 🤔

Just the news. Maybe a little bit when Obama was in office, but my point is, I wasn’t stressed about adult topics while I was growing up. More than half of today's Gen Z weren't even born when 9/11 happened, I was 1 and a half years old, my brother wasn't even a month old, most Gen Z who were alive then couldn't even fathom the severity and tragedy of the event, not to even mention that it really happened and people lost their lives. Only the sorrow and aftermath of the even had any effect on us because adults kept ramming the tragedy of it into our little, undeveloped brains. If we're talking about the stress that affects Gen Z, 9/11 is not nearly one of the significant stressors.

No time to wonder why someone didn't like us... we just aired out our grievances with each other on the spot. We didn't have car seats or even seat belts in most cases. We had peddle power! I mean bicycles. We swam in creeks with gators. Played with snakes. We drank in clubs until we couldn't dance any more when we turned 21. Our friends carted us home. We took care of each other. Lived everyday to the fullest. But... one thing stands out... we didn't give a rats a** about politics. We had no clue if someone was a Trump supporter and we didn't care. Zero division. They have to worry about not looking correct for the TicTok crowd. They have to affirm this social group this week but next week they need to affirm a different group. They have to be a sports star, but also an academic star, but also a closet case nerd, also the champion of some cause, while also being the ultimate victim of some sort. Kids are being told they have to the the pinacol of everything before they are out of middle school. They are not allowed to make mistakes. They can't mess up on a test, burn dinner, disagree with their friends, and the ultimate sin not agree with their teachers that they spend 1 hour with five times a week.

Many of us were fresh college grads with little experience so many of us started entry level jobs. Thank for continuing to cover this topic! It’s so true! Plus, as a male, to be perfectly honest it doesn’t look attractive at all. I was always under the impression that makeup was just meant to highlight natural features. Not be layered on the point where the first thing you think of when you look at someone’s face is the make-up or surgery itself! Also, outside of the people destroying their faces, what I find most common is that Gen-Z follows the odd trend of looking way younger than older generations looked at their age!

Well, a lot of them aren't innocents at this point. You can choose what you watch, and because of this - you ARE what you watch You wouldn't believe the crap that's been shoved in my face on their phones by this generation My last experience working with a Gen Z male, 21 years old. I was his supervisor. I said p*rn isn't allowed, when I suspected they were sharing it. Work isn't the place This kid a few days later openly showed his friend loud enough for me to hear - a man (likely a sex trafficking victim) getting r*ped by a horse. They both laughed at his sexual torture. This kid then laughed and said, "well, sometimes you got to take it like a man." Yep, beastality is entertainment for them, never-mind it's also animal abuse Next, he proceeded to try to force his phone in my face of a small petite woman getting beat up by a huge muscle head brute with huge fists. I told him to get it out of my face, and hell no - I don't want to see or hear any of that crap They purposely look for filmed crime

People gotta make a conscious decision to distance or cut themselves off from all that media if it does them harm. If you can't do it on your own, get help... Like drugs, alcohol, or any other addiction. First step is to admit that there's a problem and it's causing you harm. I use some forms of media, like KZbin here. But I don't watch things that stress me out or cause me harm. Quite the contrary... I use it as a tool to learn, to gain perspective from seeing different people doing amazing things all around the world, and to conversate within little communities like this one. I don't know anything about TikTok trends, Facebook "friends", or Twitter discourse drama... But I do know the daily habits of the deer and squirrel in my yard and how my neighbors are doing. The world is a bit topsy turvy right now, and I'm not saying ignore it. But I don't feel any existential dread because I *choose* not to. I distance myself from that which would harm me, that which I cannot control... and focus more on what's in front of me, that which is beautiful and fulfilling. By no means is my life easy, it's actually quite hard. But it's still pretty stress free around here. 😄 You're right. Kids shouldn't be so stressed out. And if socializing en mass and getting bombarded with news and information stresses them, then they are indeed better off oblivious. ✌️

@@VoiceOvaGuy You talk as if every woman have a subconscious desire to be a mother. That is simply not true. I am 39, STILL don't feel like having kids. It's just not what I came here to do this time around. Maybe next time. And I look at everyone I know who have children, and I really don't envy them at all. They seem so exhausted, and they have no time to really live. I looove my freedom. I have never wanted kids. When other female friends started talking about wanting a baby already in their late teens, I thought it was crazy to think like that at such a young age. But I assumed I would start to think like that myself when I got older. In my twenties, I thought it would happen, but it didn't. I STILL didn't feel that craving to be a mom, quite the opposite happened, I just realized more and more that I didn't want kids, that I dreaded that day, if it would ever come, that I would get pregnant. I used double protection when having s*x (the pill and condom), and was always super careful to not get pregnant. I am so happy I never had a kid, especially seeing the world go to sh*t. I don't even have the heart to put an innocent child into a cruel world like this. No one deserves that! And most people who have kids have not worked on themselves and healed their trauma, so they affect their children with their own mental issues, and then their kids grow up traumatized and pass it on to their own kids, and so the ever-ending wheel of generational trauma continues. I am aware enough to know that I need to figure out my own sh*t before I can take care of anyone else, mentally, physically, economically etc. Studies show that intelligent women tend to have fewer children or none at all. There is a reason for that. My IQ is 149. If I should suddenly be wanting kids in my forties or fifties, I will just adopt: There are way too many kids who don't have a family, so why put more kids into this world when we could care for those kids instead. But I doubt I will ever want kids. You sound so dramatic, talking as if we will all suffer for not being mothers. Have you heard of these creatures called animals, that are not part of the human animal family? They are usually cute and fluffy, and taking care of them is very fulfilling, and they are usually super loyal if you treat them right. Us childless women will be just fine with our fur babies by our side.

Growing up, my mom would read us stories from "The Book of Virtues" (there was also a cute animated version of it that we used to watch). In one of the stories, a young boy is impatient to grow up, and receives the gift of a magic ball of string from a mysterious stranger. Whenever he wishes to escape his present moment, he just pulls the string and skips ahead. It's only after zooming through his entire life that he realizes that he can't get that time back. A powerful metaphor there... that's what this made me think of. When you alter your one God-given face so drastically for the sake of a trend, you can't get the "old" one back. But, in a way, this is not all that new. It wasn't so long ago that the trend was to use makeup full of lead that literally ate away the skin... just ask Dolores Costello. The extent of the interventions, and how casually they are being undertaken, definitely feels new though. Healthy, secure, down-to-earth self-acceptance and self-love that is not swayed by hype and trends is so important. When we center our present around avoiding the future, we end up losing both.
