I think there is a diff between dupes and counterfeit. Dupe products are established brands at a lower cost compared to the original more expensive ones. Counterfeit are just fake copies from original brands. I guess that's capitalism for ya.

Dupes are duplicate version of the original product. Counterfeiting is trying to make exact copy of the original to make it appear original. While Lower cost brand Doesn't try to imitate a luxury brand.

Personally as Gen Z myself, I think dupes are veryyy valid especially for activewear. I’m just wearing it to the gym and back so tbf, I don’t really wanna invest much on it like LuluLemon where one piece of activewear is almost like a weeks worth of allowance. I have tried some of our local brands like Kydra and Lunablys. I bought a set from Kydra but for me, I think the price is a little too high since I’m currently still studying😭 My friend recommended Lunablys and the price is so student-friendly. I was a bit sus when I saw the price so I bought a set and wore it to a few of my gym sessions. The material is really soft and doesn’t stick to my skin after all the sweat. I think I had my fair share of cameltoes after buying on Shopee 😭 so thank god I finally found something that works for me

Back then, using counterfeit/ oem/ lookalike items are look down upon and it would be better to go for a more affordable brand if budget does not permit. Now giving such items a new name and calling it a new culture over glorify the use of counterfeit/ oem/lookalike / knockoff. Instead of being more down to earth and using what we only need, now we are totally heading in the direction where we “save” money while supporting parties who possibly infringe copyrights or abuse and underpay staff to reduce production cost and maximize profit.

Interested to find out how the activewear held up against the original and also the testing method and duration. Feel like the differences in quality may not show up on initial usage. Also with their own product customization (higher waist band etc) is it still fair to call them dupes?

Lucky you to be able to afford paying higher price. I not sure if you ever heard of “no frills”? Branded comes with an extra price which may not be necessary, it is just a marketing gimmicks to make the buyer feels good and the seller richer.

Dupes are not counterfeits. Look up what dupes are. Dupes are similar products but from established brands. Just something like another brand making a lipstick in the same color is considered a dupe. Counterfeit is making a fake product but lying and labeling it the same name as the original brand. Dupes use their own brand name. The prices of luxury brands are ridiculous and unfair. Dupes make those similar products more accessible to poorer people.

@@user-gu9yq5sj7c precisely the point. People who only prefer “branded” are paying for the cost of those branding and no wonder many are always complaining that cost of living is high when there are cheaper alternatives of equal or maybe even superior quality than some branded.

The perception of duplicates being cheap often arises from a failure to recognize the creative process behind the original design. The extensive time and effort invested by the designer, including research and meticulous crafting, contribute to the true value of the design. Consequently, duplicates appear cheaper. However, it's crucial to acknowledge that the primary victim of this perception is the creator of the original design. Their brand appears more expensive due to the comprehensive costs involved in the design process.

The dupe is cheaper - it is not a perception. A major factor in it being cheaper is because there is no research & development, but it is cheaper. The ethics are debatable... 😎

dupes are good for increasing competition. However, with China's massive manufacturing, it becomes problematic for local businesses to compete. I bought some dupe and they offer a cheaper price and 4 star quality.

I wear little makeup, but the ones I buy are great quality since they tend to be produced by the same manufacturer. I will, however, will buy the higher price items for things like the under eye concealer from Armani is one I won't ever try to get around paying. The Armani lipstick as well. But my foundation is from loreal and primer from elf which have always gone the distance. I would never wear cheap makeup directly from an unregulated Chinese seller. I already heard about the risks associated with those products and will never risk. I only buy second hand clothes so I always buy the origina l

There are definitely loads of quality dupes around like clothes and accessories that when I get them I feel very proud of myself 😂😂 However for make up I would be careful as the dupes may not have proper quality control? Powdered make up may have talc which may cause cancer? Do your own research.
@aysmch622
@aysmch622 2 ай бұрын
Talc is mostly used in powder especially face powder, in here in Indonesia there is big pharmacy store have some brand called marcks and Venus that the face powder ingredient was Talc there is zea mays starch/maizena/corn flour My family basicly used it when they are young,like 17? Years old and now they were around 60... But there is no skin cancer was appering because of Talc... If you think Talc was cancer cause just because it is from rock,then titanium oxide/zinc oxide (pysichal sunscreen) should be cancer cause too because it is actually from rock,no.... It is metal...
@aysmch622
@aysmch622 2 ай бұрын
The one that make it cancer causing was asbestos,if the Talc was contamination with asbestos
@Dandelion_flight
@Dandelion_flight 2 ай бұрын
@@aysmch622 Yes Asbestos indeed, but i am really not sure about talc. I really do hope it does not cause cancer, but i just want to be careful. There are things in nature that can cause cancer eg heavy metals, and how about lead and mercury? Natural doesn't mean does not cause cancer, right? Wood dust can also cause cancer if breathe in too... We just have to do educated research. Not all products go through testing.
