Interesting thought. That really is what the goal has been for many, but I think it makes more sense to raise the next generation to be healthy. This includes mental, physical, financial, and emotional health. Doing things to become a healthy individual always includes doing hard things. So, I think generations before that want the generation after to have things be "easy" completely misses the mark.

Everyone wants to be better than the ones before and after them, most parents want their children to be great, but don't know how or don't want to help in doing so. Most succesful people of our time had and have people supporting and helping them. Yes, parenting is very difficult, but you shouldn't put all the blame on them when they don't turn out how you wanted them to be.

There’s no such thing as laziness. It’s a fictional moral concept used as a pejorative, disinclination to activity or exertion happens for a reason, such as depression, health problems, a trapped environment that provides no rewards or chokes opportunity and punishes mistakes etc, not moral failure. The accusation of laziness is just a smug and cruel way for the industrious to condemn those who are already unlucky, and to say “they deserve it!” It’s the same mentality as people who rationalise to themselves that homeless people deserve to be homeless because “they’re lazy so couldn’t hold down a job“, and “morally weak so turned to drugs”. You have to be really narcissistic and cruel to think like that, but many people do.

What i've seen lately is that older people are blaming millennials for always being addicted to smartphones, music, videogames, etc. But if all those things were invented 70 years before we were born, don't tell us that you wouldn't have been as addicted to them as we are to them today, and plus, were just adapting to the environment around us, if the tech that we grew up with today was never invented and we were stuck with having to tame horses and work on a farm, we probably would have adapted to that environment just as well as we adapted to the environment today. We probably would've been addicted to books, and 70's country music for all I know.

I was able to give up tv for about 7 or 8 years, but then life sucked too hard and I had to go back to the tube, eh, screen to cope. I'm glad we didn't have this social media/constant KZbin thing when I was a kid though. There are really cool parts to it, but it's just too much.

There is some truth to that. You see young people now totally engrossed in their smart phones. In the 80's, when my generation was young, we were totally engrossed in our Walkmans. It is funny though to see styles and interests repeat themselves. I see it with the clothing now. Young people dress now like we did in the late 80's-early 90's...tight jeans, ponchos, trucker caps, bright colors, and wayfarer style sunglasses. It's like it skips a generation. Millennials all have beards, like my dad's generation did in the 60's and 70's. I've noticed that underwear even has skipped generations. My grandfather's and mine were all boxers. The baby boomers and millennials are all briefs. Kinda funny. Of course there are always exceptions.

That's a pretty big generalization of a very large and diverse group of people. Not to mention that plenty of people from past generations like to show off their wealth the moment they earn something. Just take a look at Donald Trump. LewdManic Maybe they would like to get a better job except oh wait, you need at least a bachelor's degree to get anything halfway decent... but how can you get a bachelor's degree to get that better job if you can't even make enough money to survive, let alone pay the continually ballooning college costs? And don't give me any crap about tech schools. I tried that. Still can't find a job because my Associates only has value if I also have 2 - 5 years experience on top of it, but I can't get any experience because I need a Bachelor's just to get a job to get experience so I can use my Associates. Don't assume people are just lazy assholes. Low skill jobs are becoming increasingly rare, either outsourced to other countries with far cheaper labor or replaced by automation. It costs a lot money to get enough education to get higher skill jobs. You can't get that money unless a low skill job can pay enough to survive and have enough left over for an education (good luck finding that magical unicorn), go into massive debt that can't even be forgiven through bankruptcy, create a universal income system, or a have a free or reduced cost college system.

The game itself isn't even that bad, it's just the fact that the community was toxic and it's "cooler" to hate on a game after it's peak. Look at Minecraft if you disagree. Minecraft was a very popular game back in the day, and then it died down. All though a decent amount of still played it, it was "popular" to hate on the game and call it bad, the game itself really wasn't. Then when the game became popular again, it was no longer cool to hate on it, which is why most people stopped hating on it. It's all a very social based thing where people will agree with others just because enough other people do the same thing. Coming from a fellow Zoomer btw.

6:48 I'm gen z (2003) and have a wonderful friend who is baby boomer (I don't care about age, I simply attach easily to people who treat me as though I exist). I can confirm they're not necessarily scary monsters if you take the time to talk to them instead of just complaining about them using sterotypes on social media. Our friendship is probably the most fulfilling one I've ever had.

As a gen X, many of my generation where ANGRY because we had seen our parents have the same job since their early twenties, and most reached retirement age on that. But when our turn to work came, all we could hope for was goddarned 6 months contracts, getting fired all the time for "restructurations" and other B/S, so ended up jumping from job to jobs until most if us reached mid thirties. How do you build a life on 6 months contacts? honestly?? Add the purchasing power decrease (I could not phantom having a brand new car and a house under my name at 25... impossible !), having to have 2 working parents to MAYBE afford what our parents did while she was most likely a house mom or a part-time worker until we (kids) turned ~12ish... It was so UNFAIR. So yeah, F-This, we were angry. Ask many unspoiled Gen X and you'll be surprised how many of us STILL are angry about that. Starting your life 15 years later than your parents sucked, and biology does not wait... ask any Gen X women. As for millenials? Sorry man, but you guys really can't put down your phones. If threatened to be fired over it, you guys leave to work somewhere else (now that's guts, and I respect that). However from my own work environment (well before covid), you guys are highly intelligent, easy-going, and focused when you pu your mind to it. I've learned much from 2 co-workers who are milenials, Impressive ! But you really can't put your cellphones down... :-p

MasterSadChild It is especially bad in America and spreads from there through the Internet. In Germany for example, people are less focused on simple name calling. If you say conservative, people think of someone who is infact conservative and less about a certain party (though the CDU is also associated with conservatism but not that strongly).

He was always depressed on the field, not getting into the action, and hanging behind on the far end of the field when everyone else was in the game. I talked with him about it. He realized that the trophy was bullshit, because he didn't like soccer and wasn't even trying. He agreed with me that he'd rather have the satisfaction of doing something well WITHOUT a trophy, than get a trophy for shit. That trophy sits on my desk today, as MY reward for raising my son right. He matches NONE of the stereotypes listed.

Of course, nothing will be accomplished unless one side wakes up and takes the first step towards reconciliation. Even so, as a Gen-Zer, I think we can be the first ones to grow up despite our age and prove that we can, in fact, listen. By doing this, we will be one step closer to stopping this childish feud between older and newer generations and finally break these pointless stereotypes! Let's make changes for the better guys! :)

I've always made this argument. My parents just shake their heads and blame smartphones in the hands of young people for everything... But they use smartphones too. They use Amazon, instead of visiting local stores. They use WhatsApp and Facebook, even more than me. The problem with saying millenials have done X or Y is that literally everyone else is also doing the same thing. Then why are we the ones who get blamed? Sometimes, I swear, people don't even put in the minimum amount of thought into a statement.

Or the fact that Instagram and Snapchat havetaught kids that how you look is more important than who you are? What about the sheer amount of children who spend all your free time on their cell phone and will never find an identity because they're wasting their childhood anyway? "Those iPhones are making you angry" actively triggered me! XD You have to admit that most parents blame electronics for their children anger issues, rather than bad parenting or behaviour on their behalf, or that they made the world harder to live in for future generations, and that we are just frustrated when our parents compare us to them, when it is scientifically proven that it was easier for them. :(
@dejennerate
@dejennerate 5 жыл бұрын
In some aspects it was easier for them. Jobs were easier to come by, and you didn't need tons of experience to get them. You have to consider now that we have phones (where they barely did and were archaic compared to today) that we have a ton of opportunities thanks to our tech. You can now have a voice that reaches far and wide, where older gens could not do so as easily without getting into a field such as politics or journalism. Now, you can just pop onto KZbin, make a video for free that voices your opinions and can potentially influence people for the better, at the click of a mouse. There are more entrepreneurs now than ever, meaning more potential for self employment and future employment of like-minded people. Just watching Dragon's Den or Shark Tank is showing us how younger generations are becoming more inventive, creative and forward thinking in terms of products that are better for the future of the planet (in a lot of those cases). We have the potential to create more tech and improvements than any generation so I think the whole "there are no jobs, we can't afford houses" argument is only true if we aren't inventive, creative or willing enough to make something unique, useful or necessary ourselves. The potential of today's youth isn't 100% limited like a lot think it is. You're as limited as you limit your mind, but this mostly is applying to the 1st world countries. We have the chance to help 3rd world people when they do not have as much luxury and opportunities as us. Millennials and younger need to check our privilege and do more instead of being defeatist and blaming older generations.

I don't know a person who has all of these 3 at once, yet many people think that all of us have all 3 of these characterisations present. And because of that, they try to counter it and make us hate the previous generations and actually cause this group to not care about adults. But don't listen to me, I'm just a post-millenial

if you werent spoiled, cared about school and other things besides TV and games why is it so commonplace to place that stigma on you??? stereotypes dont just pop up out of the blue you know.

@@scar445 the stigma is commonplace because it's the exact same stigma that was given to the previous generations. Lazy, entitled, etc. Do all of your generations stereotypes apply to you? If your answer is "no", which it will be, then I ask you "why is it so commonplace to place that stigma on you"?? See that question is fucking stupid. And if your answer was "yes", you're a hypocrite.

@@scar445 It's because we're often lumped in with Millennials by people who don't know that a whole new generation started in 1996.

@@Sandstimes it commonplace to put that stigma on my generation as either A) a method of redirection in order to move focus away from the topic at hand or B) its done by the generation before mine and therefore they put the same stigma on me, only i got chastised for always sitting inside, reading, and for spending playing D&D (my mom thought i kept me out of check with reality). see the difference in the things we get accused of?? maybe i should mention that my childhood took place when landlines were the main method of communication and you usually only had 1, in the living room. back then, if you wanted to see your friends, you visited them and prayed that they were home on the way there

And to be fair to those Gen-Z'ers who "only care about TV and Video Games", it's easy to be politically apathetic in the current climate, and we are influenced by the stereotypes to believe that our peers are spoiled and terrible, making us want to socialize less.
