And I though I was from middle of nowhere. I lived my first 19 years on a very small farm (10 ha of field) 30 minute walking distance out of 1500 people village (Karttula,Finland if you are curious). Also 45 minute drive away from Kuopio pop.118000. Which is 9th largest City in Finland. Considering Finland is most sparsely populated country in EU that isn't that for away. Even in relatively southern Finland you may have drive for hours to reach a city of 100000 people.

To put it in perspective, the state with the lowest population density in the continental U.S. has a population of about 500k people and is 2/3 the size of Finland. There are some parts of the U.S. where you have to drive for hours to find a GAS STATION.

I live in Nebraska and have stopped by the bar in Monowi traveling to my family's cabin. The gizzards are really good and my uncle even has the last "Monowi 2" sign and one of the old "Monowi 1" signs in his garage. It's also a great place for a steak. She just pulls out an electric griddle, throws it on the bar, and slaps that baby on there.

I mean, you'd think. I choose to believe that she kept going back because she loved the town, and wanted to make sure it wasn't forgotten. History has story in the name because someone has to tell it. She didn't want her life to be that from a ghost town, so she keeps the memory alive. For her sake and her children's and her children's children and their children after that. And now for all of us, who gave her the gift of never being forgotten, permanently archived so that her memories and fondness for a piece of the past never die.
