Calm down. As a leading EU member, Germany is expected to balance national interests with European solidarity. Border controls do not necessarily indicate a contradiction in values, but rather a response to specific challenges that various EU countries, including Germany, are facing. Hungary has built physical barriers, whereas Germany has focused more on humanitarian solutions, even if temporary controls are in place. Germany operates within the EU legal framework when it comes to border controls and respects EU-wide decisions. In contrast, some countries may act outside of these frameworks, which is often why Germany criticizes them. Claiming that Germany has 'absolutely 0 shame' oversimplifies a complex issue. Border controls are a legal and temporary measure allowed under the Schengen Agreement to address specific security concerns, not a reflection of national shame or hypocrisy.

The AfD's massive rise, coupled with the EU's inability to curb migration, necessitated this action
@hairegu2Ай бұрын
I completely agree, going your own way nationally is not the way forward, closing borders against each other within EU is not helping European unity at a time when we need to stick together more than ever. In fact, what is needed for Europe to be competitive in the future is a deeper cooperation and integration with each other, not more national interests, as that will not make us stronger or more competitive here. What should have been done, while nurturing and standing up for the fundamental right of free movement within EU and especially within the Schengen block, would have been for example to go to Brussels for an extraordinary gathering and call for an emergency action plan to curb irregular migration at the EU level faster than the planned two years perhaps given the recent events in Germany and create a joint action plan anchored e.g., in the European council, something that could have been done within one or two days, and in the meantime give the German police a clear directive, and the resources, to actually execute the decisions to reject or deport the thousands of rejected asylum seekers who have already had their right tried and received a rejection decision rather, similar to the preparator in Solingen, something that could actually make a difference in the short-term potentially and that can be done fully within existing common rules. Border controls can be introduced in extraordinary times, but I wonder if this situation is really that severe though, maybe it is. As it stands though, I think this action is ultimately a sign of weakness not having the coolness to resist populist ideas and calls for actions that will accomplish little in practice except for making AfD stronger. Even though I'm quite pessimistic about it, let's hope the controls are indeed lifted after 6 months this time, and that we take a step back and create a long-term plan how we together can nurture and develop the European freedoms and integration, and ensure each individual's right of having the need, or not, of asylum tried, while still ensuring that migration is indeed controlled.

In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany. The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed. People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.

Immigration adds to this. Higher population in an inflated economy causes demand and higher prices, which impacts those on lower earnings - generally younger. That cycle keeps going on so much that any innovation which is intended to bring down costs, can't keep up with this ongoing demand. Germany imposed a border control with Poland and Austria last year: cars don't get pulled over, they just cause traffic because the three-lane highways squeeze down into one lane as you cross the border. The police is there, yes, with lights and weapons, but they don't stop cars. They stop only passenger buses (and perhaps trucks randomly) to check for papers.

The Netherlands plan to reintroduce border controls as well. But why not? People who have nothing to hide show their passport or identity card. Denmark has randomly border controls since 8 years! In case of border-controls people without or with invalid passports are rejected. Furthermore, many people travel voluntarily to countries with border controls and many other restrictions - and don't complain.

Still won't make a difference. They need a seriously tough border in Greece, Italy, Spain, etc, to stop them coming into the EU in the first place

Protect THE EU OUTSIDE BORDE.STAY STRONG EUROPEANS. 😊TOGETHER WE ALL CAN.
@Grk149Ай бұрын
Open borders worked when Europe was serious with guarding its external borders instead of using our border forces to provide ferry services to people smugglers. Slowly we will lose all our goodies here in the EU due to the inability of leadership to enforce laws and finally put some order in the illegal and uncontrolled migration.

This is brilliant news. Borders should not be freely open. Visas should be next. If you wish to go across an international border you should have to pay a visa. And yes that should also be for all British citizens going to a foreign country on holiday and I say that as a British citizen. Going to another county shouldn’t just be a right.

EU must help solve the economic/social/political issues in the countries of origin. Maybe the EU institutions are afraid that this could be seen as “New Colonialism”.

Why should EU solve others peoples problems? If people in sudan wants some crazy leaders, they should live with them. Or what is the alternative? That EU sends their troops and change their leadership and run their country against their will? Eu has its own problems to solve, can not and should not try to solve the whole planet.
