Why buy a mechanical keyboard over a cheap membrane one? I've played with mechs for a while now, so I just share my personal thoughts :)

I have a numpad as a layer in my keyboard. If I would use one every day I would have a seperate numpad left of my keyboard because then I can type with my left the numbers and can still use my mouse with the right comfortably. I just type a lot and have in another layer put all the brackets, simicolons, apostrophes etc. On one for easily accessibility because I use them a lot while programming. Everyone has different needs and uses and I prefer to tailor the tools I use everyday for house on end to perfectly fit my needs. That took countless of hours, but the ones it saved me were well worth it.

It is worth the quality of the keys, the key-press feels, and the responses for any purposes. The only two issues for me are the price and its noisy clicky sound. I work in an office/lab that is shared with other people. My slow 66-wpm typing speed is still noisy for a mechanical keyboard. As for my personal gaming PC, the non-mechanical keyboards are much more affordable (less than 40% of the price of mech keyboards) and they are still convenient for gaming.

The "problem" (rabbit hole) with this hobby is not just get a mechanical keyboard, its all the options you have. Each switch (that is incresing every year with more models and switch mods), each keycap profile, each material you use for the plate, case, lube or not lube, etc can change completely the feel of the keyboard when typing, so you never end

You should review more optical, hall effect or topre capacitive switched keyboards because of their immunity to double press or chatter issue. Thank you for this video. I first heard about mechanical keyboards in 2015. Back then, I thought it was really for gamers and as a office worker I don't really need it. One fine day, I went to a computer store and tried a MX Brown keyboard. Really loved the feeling and th sound! From that moment, I realized that I was suffering from that rubber dome keyboard at my office! Thanks to the various options of mechanical keyboards, now I can have a 68% layout to reduce my shoulder pain. As I switch between the keyboard and the mouse a lot during my work sessions, the full layout make my right shoulder a lot. I started with a TKL layout and was already happy with it. Now my daily driver is a Keywalker IDF68, which is a wonderful one!

Recently I ordered one from Varmilo for the house, it's a shame it's very hard getting a 105 key ISO with custom layout and LED backlit. Varmilo has all that except the keycaps are not seethrough. I hope I will find one day one that completely suits my needs.

Finally someone who gave me a good answer for why should I consider a mechanical KB over membrane (MX Keys). I first thought it had something to do with typing speeds, but that seemed indifferent to me. Thank you!

I absolutely loved this video I just spent around 500 dollars on a keybaord with a few keycap sets some switches and I actually got 2 cases the tofu and I got the klippe T r3 as there is limited stock on those and I knew I couldnt amps it up as it had the best blue I've ever seen on a leyboard like ever but yeah this made me feel better lol it has turned into a hobby with builds and I really really feel like it's like an expensive model car but I enjoy keyboards more they cna be beautiful and made well and also yly get to tear everything apart redo the switches redo some other thing lube everything so it's just like that just more fun for me

Unpopular opinion here. For some reason, I don’t find using mech keyboard to be comfortable. I feel like there’s too much key travel there, making my workflow feels quite slow. For me, slim keyboards like the Microsoft Surface Keyboard or the Apple Magic Keyboard are really comfortable to use. I can’t be the only one here.

maybe look for switches with a higher actuation point, like the cherry mx speed. if you install o-rings and/or get silent switches the key travel gets way shorter. or even maybe look for low-profile switches

I love the sound and feel of mechanical keyboards, but I love the low profile, efficiency, and sleek design of scissor switch keyboards (which seem to be very difficult to find outside of laptops)

I cannot believe I have never seen your channel before today! I use an IBM 42H1292 date 9/21/95 since the day it was brand new. I have it rigged with multiple connectors to work on modern PC through the USB and it gives occasional hiccups because of that connection. I would LOVE to get a new mechanical keyboard with the same click/sound/feel as my favorite KB of all time and because I just stumbled across your video - I see that it is possible! THANK YOU for sharing!

You got some keyboards with very nice looks on the video! Makes us want to start a collection. I happen to have two IBM Model M. On for use at home and another at the office. But sometimes I like the smaller ones since the M is so massive that it's not very ergonomic for the mice use.

I love your reviews!! Just wondering do you have a video about mechanical keyboard buying guide for the newbies?? I’ve used membrane keyboard for my whole life and I kinda got interested in mechanical keyboards. But all I know is the typical brands like Logitech, Corsair, steelseries etc. do you have any recommendation from these typical brands??

My Aunt had a stroke on her left side and had to go through extensive physical therapy. Unfortunately she types for a living and was having a hard time with her fingers on regular keyboards. I bought her a mechanical keyboard with MX clears and she said after a while she could feel her typing hands getting stronger with the added resistance of the keystrokes. I was happy I could find a slightly different method to help her heal.

Hello there TaeKeyboards, loved your video. I'm living in Turkey and prices are very high here. I'm using Steelseries Apex 7 with red switches. But i took a liking to custom 60% keyboards novadays so i want to buy one. No one sells keyboards like keychrone or drop alt kind of stuff here. And they get very expensive even i want them to be shipped to Turkey. Can you recommend me a solution, What to buy, and where to buy. Thanx in advance.

I have only bought my first couple of keyboards for work and for home, because my previous keyboard has gone through hell and back. I appreciate the quality of the keyboards I bought (one is Leopold, one is Keychron) and I enjoy the feel. I don't feel compelled to dive deep into the rabbit hole of mechanical keyboards that some do, but I appreciate that there's a market and interest in providing a lot of different products for people's desires and needs. It's pretty cool.

I thought it was pretty expensive to be honest but after doing some research, they said mechanical keyboard has a faster response time and also I love the clicking sounds. But this! I really loved this video. When I worked in South Korea my school had a mechanical keyboard with a clear silicone cover. I couldn't explain it at the time but it was my absolute favorite keyboard! I really loved how it felt and working on that computer was oddly more satisfying. I'd love to get a mechanical keyboard (and a silicone cover cuz I just loved the squishy~) just like it someday (tho maybe with backlighting, RGB keyboards are stunning). Any suggestions on knowing which weight is best for me?

A mechanical keyboard is worth it because of the experience it provides. No other peripheral in a computer environment offers the feeling that MKBs provide, every time you press a key and you feel each and every part of that switch working just feels so awesome it's actually quite undescribable. The customization available is also a huge plus especially since you can change the look with just a simple swap.

I recently got a Gamakay (Wormier) K87. I turned off the RGB and I now have a well built, relatively good looking keyboard. I got the version with Gateron yellow switches, and I *enjoy* every word I type on it. The switch press, weighting, bouncy return make my fingers feel like they are running on a tiny bouncy castle. Remember running across a bouncy castle when you were young? Like that. Such a satisfying, rythymic bounce.

Fell down the mechanical keyboard by start of the year, I don’t game and have had laptops for more than 10 years so never had the need for external keyboards but my last laptop’s keyb died last year and had been using a real cheap one for months thinking “this thing sounds awful, it missinputs like crazy, the cable is dying and disconnects on its own” and decided to go for mech. Down the selection was tough on a budget, my dream build would’ve been a 96% compact because I do need the numpad for my work, and I need it to be wireless for convenience with my desktop setup, after looking around for switches found the white box kailhs to sound amazing but couldn’t trust my soldering skills from uni nor really wait for a PCB, body and set of keycaps from china nor was willing to pay for a hotswappable one so went with a Keychron K4 with blue switches but I now know _exactly_ what I want next and will get around it on the future. This channel has been my guide and mentor through this wild ride and I’m thankful.

I have to say that I’m impressed with your coverage around Keyboards and there are even Cons about it is new for me as well! It’s nice to see that there are also various price range now because of it, but I will stick with the brand I know even that is more expensive, that is Logitech in my Case. Even before the Mechanical Keyboard century their products have been very durable in my case so I can (after some cheap no name ones) i stick to Logitech without any regret and have the trust also in my next keyboard from them.
