I bought a cheap second-hand official dock, took out the board and transplanted it into a mini dock case I found on Amazon. Means it's an official dock (technically) but in a much smaller form factor. No worries about it bricking my console.

I’d be iffy about using a third party switch dock because of the possibility of bricking your switch. I’d stick with the official dock just to be safe. There are custom shells that you can transplant the official dock’s internals into that give you a smaller more travel friendly package.
