I waited till the end and lo and behold Superman's vulnerability to magic was mentioned and the cause of his defeat. Magic is not a guarantee win against Superman. Not only can Superman himself wield magic, but he can be powered by it. Superman has an aversion to magic, his susceptibility to it has been said to be psychological. Also, Superman has often defied magic, was sometimes the last one standing against the most powerful of magics. Just like when defying the ill effects of kryptonite, it's Superman's application of his superior will that determines the outcome not just the mere fact that it's magic being used against him.

I haven't read comics in a long time, so I may be misremembering, or may have just misunderstood altogether, but my understanding of the penance stare was that it at least partially feeds on guilt. So if Superman feels guilty about any of his actions, whether they were evil or not, that would mean the penance stare would affect him. Again, that could be completely wrong

Pretty sure the Penance stare forces people who don't feel bad about their actions for feel the pain from it. Superman feeling guilt is already his punishment for actions.

The feedback was a result of the book's defense system activating, installing knowledge into their head before forcing them back and reverting shazam back into billy, and temporary cutting off his shazam powers Now technically you can say superman lifted the book, but that really depends on how you classified Ultraman. While Ultraman is said to be an alternate reality version of superman. His powers don't work the same way and is often stated as being a stronger but dumber version of superman

It really depends on which Superman we're doing with. Superman recently had a power where he had control over space and time. It is were Cosmic Armor Superman, Superman would win it because that one can gain any power he needs to win. Definitely would be a good fight.

I dont get how superman story changes so much. Superman from Krypton....in Krypton they are all average, if Kryptonians were like superman..why did they die off. How is superman that strong, he isnt different than any other kryptonian. He is only strong on earth due to the SUN..so how can he be a universl threat? why were the other kryptonians not a universal threat?

Superman's body is like a set of batteries on a solar setup. The longer he is under our sun the more energy his body stores. Then he can use that energy even if he is not under our sun, but his powers will fade over time when he is under the wrong color sun. Now for why the people of Krypton do not have his powers. Krypton was under a red sun, and not a yellow sun. It puts out different rays under the light spectrum. Any of his people that survived, and made it to earth do have the same powers that he does. Examples are Super Girl, General Zod, and the people of the bottle city of kandor. If anyone of his kind were to stay on Earth long enough, and absorb our suns rays for years. They would also be a Universal Threat.
