Sigiriya is a special place of archaeological value. Kasyapa, who killed his father, came and built a palace on this rock for protection, that is the story everyone knows. But in the lower part there are many very important special places that no foreign tourist knows, only local tourists know. unfortunately there's no international investigation or documentary has been produced about this. The reason may be that Sri Lanka was isolated from the world for decades. The government does not seem to care about this. However, the price of tickets is quite high. I accept that too. However, a very good place for anyone interested in archaeology. (Love this video be safe❤️)

It's good that the ticket prices are high for foreigners, just minimize foot traffic of visitors. If you watch the documentary called "The Last Tourist", you'll understand why mass tourism would destroy significant places like Sigiriya.

Developing countries like Sri Lanka depend on tourism income. As tourists, please spend a reasonable amount when visiting developing countries. Sri Lankans daily average income is less than $4 and that is why a very subsidised rate for citizens in Sri Lanka for transport and all other facilities. I live in Canada and just for climbing the CN tower they charge $56.

The ticket to see Sigiriya maybe expensive but coming all the way to SL and not visiting it seems a shame. That’s just my opinion. Good luck to you both.

Yes it is a shame we couldn't go in. It was just too high for our daily budget. We really hope to return to Sri Lanka as we love it here and maybe to be able to visit then. 🙏❤️🇱🇰

I believe it's worth paying $30 for this visit. If that price isn't within your budget, you could climb Pidurangala, but it won't offer the same experience as visiting Sigiriya Rock. I recommend visiting both places if possible. Each offers a unique experience that’s worth exploring!

@@udaralakmal1933 Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts on these sights. I believe that US$30 is a very inflated price for foreign tourists, and will discourage people from going to Sigiriya, which is unfortunate as it's such a beautiful area.

Sigiriya is a UNESCO world heritage site. It represents our advanced technology back in the days, we respect our heritage. We are proud of it. Pidurangala is just a rock. So the tickets make sense, 30 dollers in not much considering the historical importance of the place. There should be a proper guidance to tourists about historic value of the place , so they won't mislead and think it is another rock climbing.

Thank you for providing your opinion. For me, 9000 LKR is a very expensive ticket to see something... and it is exorbitant in comparison with the price it was until fairly recently. Maybe the aim is to discourage foreign tourists, and to leave Sigiriya for the locals, who quite rightly pay far less at around 100 LKR per person.

11:58 the ginger sweet that is mixed with sesame seeds is called "Inguru thala" , and the other one is "dhosi" I think. Usually made with pumpkin preserve. And yes Sunil is his name.
