Here’s my idea. The whole story teaches us that infinity is his barrier between people. The physical embodiment of his inability to form meaningful new connections. What if his death by Sukuna was an ego death, him finally realizing that strength doesn’t matter. That he wants to rebuild. So he gives it up,(maybe as a binding vow to come back to life or strengthen his RCT,etc) He breaks his walls down fully. 1.because sukuna already broke it through force. 2. He still wants to teach the next generation. Coming back into the story he would finally know who he is. Giving up his infinity would strip him of everything people thought he was so he can embrace who he is. The thing that defined him no longer shackling him. He would still have his six eyes. Which in and of themselves have one defining feature, he can see and understand cursed energy and cursed techniques almost completely. So after Sukunas narrative is complete and the story concludes(maybe the merger happens and people awaken to cursed energy) he can continue to help the next generation by teaching them of their techniques and how to understand and harness cursed energy.

One path probably leads to the afterlife, while the other path leads to resurrection one more time. tbh, it could be 50/50 at this point that the fact that the airport was empty + the leaked gege art about gojo opening his eye, (meaning that he resurrects one more time). it's up to gege what he wants to do tbh. He can finish this manga by making yuji the stand out alone hero and beating sukuna on his own, or he gives the manga one more cliffhanger, where you see yuji getting the upper hand on sukuna, with his awakening and being allowed to use black flashes at free will, but then sukuna is able to cast domain expansions again because he finally restored all of his brain again and cooks yuji. this is where a resurrected gojo could come in handy by unleashing unlimited void against sukuna and allowing yuji + gojo to beat sukuna in his own domain. I think that would make more sense anyways, because then gojo can fullfill his promise about talking to megumi about everything + seeing his students grow up and surpase him, and essentially gojo would finally have found an equal that could understand gojos loneliness (yuji) But who knows what gege has in mind in how to end his story

To add onto Gojo potentially losing an eye there’s also a music video made for JJK (by the people that make the openings) called Avent. This video is almost entirely about Sukuna VS Gojo, and the rest is about the Prison Realm. In that video a lot of Gojo’s imagery (besides the Prison Realm stuff) loses an eye as well, and one of them is an upside down painting of Gojo’s Six Eyes which is surrounded in black chains. This is important because chains commonly represent a Binding Vow in JJK and with Gege making a lot of things where we only see one eye from Gojo and the volume cover it seems a postmortem Binding Vow is what’s needed to bring Gojo back, and it’d cost either one of his Six Eyes (turning it to a normal eye) or legitimately one of his eyes

Gojo says in Hidden Inventory that the mistake Toji made was not chopping his head off, and that was why he wasn't able to kill him. Sukuna did not cut off his head either, which could be a parallel to the Toji Fight, which could be hinting at Gojo's return 🤔

The same one that Cut Gojo. and he is confirmed alive by maki. Everyone seems to be alive and living so far and it feels like gege maybe taking the safe route. Higaruma and Gojo feel like potential fakeouts just like yuta and at the end of the story will feel like their will be a reveal on them being alive as like a good ending. Noone has ever survive a clean cut in half however, mainly because of the instantaneous and unobstructed bleeding.(Some have survived being crushed since it stop the bleeding.) By all metrics, getting cut in half is much more lethal than toji shank to the brain and he was already way more exhausted in his fight with sukuna and the fact that he has to regenerate the entirety of his lower half, not just connect severed tissues. More signs point to Gojo coming back than staying dead. If Gege does decide to leave him dead then he’s basically wrote a bunch of chapters and added little details in the newer chapters that would be completely redundant and a complete waste of time to have spent effort on. Especially after he went through the trouble of writing the part where Sukuna tries to kill Ui Ui and is stopped by Miguel. If Ui Ui taking the bodies wasn’t important to what’s to come, spending any time showing his actions would be completely non sequential. The fact Sukuna specifically targeted him implies he thinks Ui Ui taking the bodies is a threat to him, and is important to the upcoming plot in some way.

I've had a theory that gojo might reincarnate as a curse. It's been eluded to that it isn't a specific cursed technique that allows that to happen, rather its done through a specific application of cursed energy. There’s something there for sure. Given that in most Shonen Jump series, a character death goes further than just staying dead (Afterlife in dragon ball, The edo shinobi jn Naruto, Soul Society in Bleach, post Mortem Nen in HxH, Yyh, Reincarnation in demon slayer,etc) I think either Gino’s will is just simply passed on to his students or he returns in the shape of an opening to defeat Sukuna or SOMETHING. His time at the airport feels too open ended not to come into play later or maybe I’m reaching. I anticipate that Gojo’s essence will show up again in some form or shape later in this battle.

Nah it was open ended as it wasnt the solid confirmation what Gojo picked, it was left to the readers interpretation. As it stands now, as you said, it is open ended considering as well we never even got to see Gojo body afterwards as well to get further confirmation if it was salvageable or not. If we've learned anything about JJK like Geto, it is very very important to know what happens to characters bodies in JJK. This applies to Nobara as well.
