Quick correction: Please disregard the video from 9:50 to 10:21. I slowed the Stadia video down and forgot to do the same with the PS4 footage, which causes the comparison to be misleading. I think the critique about Stadia's variable input lag is still valid, but the way in which I showed it in the video is not. I'll try to avoid mistakes like that in future videos.

Then you forget the biggest flaw of it. Once Stadia shuts down, its entire library is gone. The same can happen with digital games, but at least once they are downloaded, you can still play them. Unless it's a rare case, the store will let you continue to redownload the games. For consoles, this has always been a problem with digital gaming, but if we ever get a cloud gaming exclusive title, we are in trouble. PC gaming is endless because every game that has existed on PC at least once will forever be playable through unofficial means, even if it is delisted. But, a game that is on a server is gone forever once they decide to shut it down. For consoles, I always prefer retail over digital because it means much better game preservation. Games like MvC2HD and Scott Pilgrim are gone forever, with the former not even being game sharable anymore, nor can you redownload it, making it one of those aforementioned rare cases. MvC2HD is completely wiped from existence. Comically enough, the servers are still active, but they are completely dead. It lacks backwards compatibility and if you sold your 360 or deleted the game, you can not get the game back. So, finding a friend to play with, let alone anyone, is almost impossible. And forget about random matchmaking. Not too long ago, DuckTales: Remastered was erased from existence. But thankfully, it is readily available to this day because all consoles that it released on have a retail version, well you can just find it elsewhere on PC. Digital distribution of games has always been flawed on consoles, but Stadia took it to a new low. You know your games only have a set amount of time with you and if it is an exclusive and you love it, better stop that. Equivalent to a loved one, the game will leave you someday and you will not be able to do anything but cherish the good times you had with it.

@@mike-ns6sw Yep. Anyone have parents who introduced them to games through their old NES, SNES or Gamecube? Think you might wanna do the same one day when you have your own kids, or maybe you might wanna relive some current games you own digitally in 20 years for a little nostalgia? Nope. No company will keep their service running for 20 years, besides maybe Steam and on an outside chance MS since they seem to be pretty committed to generation carry over. You never know what kind of changes will happen in the future though. MS might stop making Xboxes or morph the brand into something else entirely. Steam might sell to EA. And Sony doesn't seem to care at all about carrying your digital library over generation to generation. They want you buying all new shit. Sounds impossible right now but trust me, a lot of things change in 20 years. Sure, you might be able to rely on the pirate scene and emulation for some of this as we have to already in certain cases, but with always online and ever more intrusive DRM more and more becoming the norm, good luck with that. Seeing a disk drive on one model of the PS5 and Xbox SX gives me some hope that they aren't completely abandoning offline play yet (as in, just pop the disk in and play whatever old version of the game is on it even if you are not connected to the internet as the current ps4 and Xbox do), but the day will come when digital is the only way to play and that is when game preservation will take a huge hit and your purchases will be entirely dependent on servers that you just cannot trust to stay up for decades. Or you might not care and say I'll never want to play old games when I'm 35 or 40. That's cool, but nostalgia for the things you did when you were younger is mighty powerful at that age. Why do you think these classic mini consoles are all sold out and selling for way over MSRP right now? And how much are those Saturn games going for right now? /end rant Hold up I'll go ahead and get it out of the way... OK boomer.

You have to buy the games individually on stadia and they are often more expensive than their steam version. and since you dont have the game downloaded if for whatever reason they take it down or the internet does not work you cant play the games you have rented. i do not want this to be the future of gaming where a game you bought will be unavailable in a few years because the license has expired and they have to shut down the distribution of it on stadia. and you cant play niche games or use any mods to enhance the games. in the long run buying a console or a decent pc will be cheaper and more reliable and if you have the internet speed to use stadia then it wont take long to just download the game to play it normally

For gaming on the go; I like to use Parsec. It's free when you've got your own PC to stream from (to a target device like a laptop), so I don't really see what Stadia has to offer. I suppose it has a games library, but I'd rather own my games anyway. You can also use Parsec to let your friends play games with you that they don't have. Parsec seems to suffer from the same latency issues as Stadia, but it's free, and if your streaming over to your friend you feel no lag (but they do obviously since they aren't playing locally and you are). This actually makes it possible for me to play with some friends of mine who use wifi without tearing my hair out.

It certainly can't be for anyone who plays video games in 2019 regularly with a console and/or PC. Its not for people who don't have fast, reliable internet and its not for any average video game consumer. So...why buy Stadia? I think a big problem with stadia is with the isps. As they improve so much data is being sent that itll probably hit data caps quite easily and also that the internet infustructure in the usa alone is pretty bad.

Latency is high in Stadia 40-55ms only for CUIC protocol to connect Stadia servers and returns to you, streaming is simply not for play games

Stadia is also really negative for speed running games, as a lot require frame perfect tricks and the inconsistent latency is definitely a problem there

It's kinda sad to see that nobody knows of ShadowPC, they've been working on perfecting their latency and fighting games, haven't been much of an issue on it, I used it for about 3 months after my gaming PC broke and I was saving for a new one, played lots of games, both on my work laptop and my mobile device both on home wifi and on 4Glte, only major issue I had was when they updated windows, because you were unable to do it yourself it would wipe all data unless you had made a data backup on their site for free beforehand, and the audio would cut out time to time for a few seconds, other than that, it's a fully functional PC alongside being able to run pretty much any game maxed out with no noticeable streaming latency

I work as tech support for one of the big broadband providers in the UK and you would be surprised at how many people call to report that that their games are laging when they are paing for a 6Mbps connection and are using wifi to game on the second floor of their house. Do not purchase this if you find yourself in this position as you would be minus two hundred bucks and nothing more.
@hennochoi5 жыл бұрын
I see a lot of time people focus too much on internet speeds or the issue with the speed of light but let's be honest most countries are moving toward fiber technology where 30mbps are common which is enough for streaming one device.... The real issue people will have are most likely on how the infrastructure is structured because for sure you will get higher lag the more "nodes" there are between you and the server either routers inside your house or the ISP routers.... So better be sure to be connected to the modem and hope you aren't too far from the server

Can be fixed easily by speeding up animations by 2-3 frames dynamically using lag data.

Are you implying it's good with other genres?
@Stumblebee5 жыл бұрын
Given ideal internet conditions, yeah, actually. The idea is that, in peak conditions, Stadia works well enough that you can play something like Tomb Raider or RDR2 and not feel the additional weight because those games already feel weighty. Fighting games, by nature, require too much input precision to feel good when streamed over the internet. At least for now. Who knows what the future holds.
@Stumblebee5 жыл бұрын
It's fine, I think. I'm not really a resolution stickler outside of 1080p. You're not going to find a fighting game that really takes advantage of a 4k resolution, but you will be able to stream it if your connection and data caps allow (20gb/hour) *shudder*

@@Stumblebee The only way they will ever reach something approximating the traditional fighting game experience is with predictive inputs. The speed of light becomes the limiting factor in scenarios like Stadia. No hardware or software will ever solve that. Or if it does, video game emulation will be the least of our problems.
@tobyvision5 жыл бұрын
@@Stumblebee One of the factors of this I haven't seen anyone discuss yet is the absolutely enormous, needless energy burden it puts on gaming. All that transmission for something we have demonstrated for decades need not be transmitted. It's ecologically very irresponsible.
