Strangely enough, the most handsome men I knew were the least concerned about beauty in a mate. Two very handsome men I dated both settled on plain, slightly overweight women to marry. Both are also nice, intelligent men, wives are nice, and intelligent women too. So maybe handsome men are weary of shallowness from people, and want something with more depth like you said. I did a similar thing! I am average looking, maybe even below average and I dated the MOST attractive and popular guy in the town. All the popular gorgeous girls would literally fight over him. I had a huge crush on him for many years and was too shy and nervous to talk to him. One day I just gave up and talked to him like I would anyone. He started liking me in that very instant and we dated for 2 years. I ended up breaking up with him---he wanted to marry me and I wanted to experience more of the world before getting married. He was the sweetest boy ever, on top of being tall and handsome. Girls would literally just come up to me and tell me they liked my boyfriend. Lol. Or as we walked by people at a party or something, all the girls would say, "Amy, your so lucky." I've worked in finance and dealt with a lot of wealthy clients. In almost every case I've encountered where the woman is less physically attractive than her male partner, her mind more than makes up for it. These men are not insecure. They want a woman who is sharp and intelligent and is not there to take his money because she is out there making her own bank. Iam wealthy and I got wealthy male friends, in general when you know that you can get any girls, the only thing that will be attractive in a woman is her mind, how intelligent artistic unique in case of originality, this type of thing. I think there are two things at play. 1) Men and women have different standards of beauty. What women might call 'beautiful' could be boring or dull-looking to a man. What some men call 'beautiful' can look tarty and basic to women, etc. And 2) you have to remember that a lot of times very rich men have already had their share of beautiful women! They've slept with models, actresses, escorts, etc. At that point in their lives, beauty is abundant and far more available to them than an average man. That's why a woman who has other qualities besides beauty can seem more interesting when she's compared to the exceptionally pretty women he has had before.

Some women can’t help being beautiful. It’s not something they can choose or turn off. They were just born that way. They just possess an innate femininity and magnetism that attracts certain men. Not all beauty is manufactured. And for those women who have it, they should absolutely use it to their advantage. Some men want a woman who is sexy and gorgeous, some men want a woman who is smart and educated and financially successful. Some men want a woman who is domestic and maternal. This to me is great news! No matter what a woman’s attraction is, it simply means that there is a place for her! Not only because of her intelligence, but also her talents and artistic abilities. A plain Jane who knows how to play the violin and can paint a scenery into a beautiful piece of artwork ( a painting) is way more attractive to a wealthy man than a bombshell who lacks brains and talents. Moreover, there's also a higher chance that less fortunate men out there would be physically attracted to the bombshell and have affairs with her which would lead to divorce and the wealthy man would eventually lose half of his assets and having to pay a monthly alimony for the rest of his life. I agree. My co worker is a very nice and highly intelligent woman. Whenever I talk to her I feel like I’m talking to someone who has a very old soul and that’s so beautiful. Even I have never met someone like her. She is really an intriguing and amazing person. I've noticed that these men might date more plain looking women, but not "unattractive" women. That is because plain women are still beautiful but not overdone and they come across as more genuine. But, you have to look at little harder to see their beauty. It is not screaming "look at me!" I used to wear more make-up and attention-getting clothes until someone in high society explained this to me, and I have toned it down some. You may not get as much attention, but the attention is more quality and not just men trying to hook up. Let's face it, people think a very made-up woman is shallow, even if she's not and wealthy men don't want that type of judgment on their wife or their family. It's not fair, but it's life.

definitely agree with the safety, my first girl was extremely good looking she came to the gym with me 5 times a week to keep in shape. She definitely had a lot of options but chose me. But through time dating her it got very tiring she was very spoiled by society and she acted like she had a lot of options other than me which slowly got old since I had heaps of options too but chose her. As a man, I can understand why successful men find “plain janes” appealing over “conventionally attractive” debutants. I’m not ignorant of the fact that women, even in our liberalized society, can’t seem to escape the ever constricting and vigorously enforced narrow standards of conventional beauty. Furthermore, I think our society upholds this Disney-esque fantasy of every woman being a princess or queen and should be treated as such. I notice that a lot of men at my church (usually pastors who are attractive) tend to marry these plain Jane women that wear zero makeup and wear nothing but dark colors and Jean's. Some of these women tend to be closed off, boring and are cold too..and that throws me off the most. When looks are the most important thing on your list, you have a high chance of a failing relationship. These men will say things like "she got fat so im no longer sexually attracted to her." If you look at couples who stay together 40 years they are usually with their best friend. When I was 20 I went for the most attractive woman I could get. Now at 39, I go for the most genuine woman that can build with me, that I can get. Ive broken up with several attractive women in my life to pursue better woman that arent necessarily as societally "hot".

I am a woman and I have to laugh at all these “men may be in love with her personality” rhetoric. I think this lady hits a lot of good real facts. I think some men marry less attractive women because they are cheaters and they believe the plain wife will put up with it, because she feels good just to have a rich handsome husband. She hates his cheating but accepts it because he comes home to her, she is the mother of his children, she gains social status being his wife. Now beautiful women can be insecure enough to put up with a dog husband also. But if she is beautiful, he might fear she will cheat on him and has a better chance of getting another handsome rich husband. If they divorce the men she dates may feel inferior to her ex if he is less accomplished than him.

What you say about men preferring “plain Jane” women is true. Some men just want “the girl nextdoor”. I have male friends who appreciate women who put effort into their appearance, but actually prefer very natural and “less glam” looking women. I think very glamorous women can scream “high maintenance”. Not just financially, but she might have an attitude problem or be stuck up because she knows she looks good. Rich or not, there are some men that don’t want to deal with that, so they go for more “humble” looking women.
