This was a podcast I desperately needed to hear. This has been one of my biggest hurdles in fitness. For a long time I thought pushing myself as hard as I could everyday, was the only way to get results. Now, after listening to you guys I have learned that a little can go a long way if done correctly. Thanks for the content, and renewing my passion for fitness.

Exactly! I thought it had to be 95-100%, every set, every rep, every time. Too many times I left the gym absolutely floored to the point that it ruined the rest of my day. I’m down to 4 days a week now, 45min to 1hr MAXIMUM. Building up to an all out top set and good pump for the muscle group overall and man it’s night and day difference in the progress.

Love that these guys have such a grounded approach to diets and protocols. I’ve been through so many of the different protocols since I like to experiment with what happens to my body following them. What I’ve learned is that they all produce results, and like they continually mention is it’s because the diet gets cleaned up with Whole Foods and appropriate amounts of calories. My big picture advice nowadays is high quality Whole Foods from high quality sources with at least .82g high quality Whole food protein, good sleep, mobility strength train, and spirituality whatever that means to you. It’s a winning combo

Started working out 12 years ago. Lots of cardio and some free dumbbell routines, walking 25k to 30k steps daily, sometimes 50k to 60k. This year, in June, I discovered Mind Pump. I had surgery, and couldn't work out for 1 month. The result of listening to you: stopped cardio and started Anabolics, now phase 2. My family said I looked dry like a raisin 12 years ago, evolved to a grasshopper (skinny and muscular) until Anabolics. Now I've got curves and I'm sexy! 45 years old, 120lbs, stronger than ever! Thanks, guys!!!!

17:38 Actually, the soleus is the the ‘meatier’, thicker and more dense part of the lower leg, much more than the gastrocnemius. I’m a physical therapist and was surprised to learn this during dissecting a cadaver in my anatomy lab and how it makes up the majority of the lower leg, and the gastrocnemius is actually relatively small in comparison. With that said, this doesn’t surprise me a ton knowing how important the soleus muscle in for routine, endurance based tasks for humans, and how dense it is. I would expect it to need a lot of energy to use constantly! Super cool to learn about and this study! Thanks guys!

I had the same issue that Justin had with IF...worked for a while for about a year, then the skipping breakfast and late lunch made it harder to get work done. Now I still often use dinner as my largest meal, during the day I often eat smaller meals of mostly protein with some no starchy carbs and fats as well as non flavored protein shakes. On most days this works well. If I want starch I often have it at dinner which is usually my post workout meal. I will occasionally purposely IF if I am having a really packed schedule if I don't have a chance to meal prep and try to still hit my protein goals. Hydration matters a lot too.

I personally like doing sprints 2x per week for actual cardio. It is good to have some intensity on a weekly basis. Plus better work capacity helps w/lifting. 👍 **But a good rule of thumb for lifting is to always leave 2 reps shy of absolute failure in the tank and take actual rest periods of 2-3 min between sets. Also daily walking speeds up recovery and lowers stress. 💯

Yeah my cardio is 2 a 3 times per week interval on an echobike. ( 2 to 4 minutes ) after a workout.
@ryandeffley76522 жыл бұрын
@@flipmanonline - No offense man but 2-4 min total isn't a "cardio workout" regardless of the interval protocol. The duration is too damn short. Tabata has proven to be a huge scam because no one can replicate the 170% of vo2 max like the speed skaters did in that study. You'll actually get a far better range of conditioning and work capacity commiting to a legit 20-30 min interval session. The most common being a 100 yard all out sprint, walk back, and repeat 10-12x.

I mean you may like it, but that doesn't mean it's actually benefitting you. To quote the MP crew, what we avoid doing, benefits us the most. 👍 ***Since you're doing an upper/lower split try this sometime. 2x per week on lower days, do 10 sprints as a finisher at the end. Thanks for the study on calf raises. It's a really interesting tip for my mother who has type 2 diabetes. She struggles with her blood sugar, so I hope it helps her a little.
@FIGGY652 жыл бұрын
Get her on doing air squats ( perhaps transitioning into light/moderate goblets in time) in excellent form. I just read an article ( a video was also a companion) that said “diabetes starts in the legs” in that the greatest majority of people with diabetes are obese and/or elderly who have poor muscle mass in the lower body. The lower body has the greatest potential for muscle , and generates great circulation. Since positive muscle mass ( even good basic tone in an average Joe) burns fat and gives favorable blood sugar levels, having good lower body musculature helps to overcome/prevent diabetes. Naturally, having good lower body strength is going to keep the elderly more mobile and less prone to falls. It’s a win win-also important is balance training by standing on each foot for up to 30 seconds per leg, multiple times per day. It’s an outstanding benefit for anyone over 50 to pursue-It strengthens the CNS connections between the brain and body, and gives seniors a further edge against trips and falls accidents👌🏽🤙🏼

I’m right there with caller 3. I’ve had health issues most of my life (ie poor diet high in sugar, multiple rounds of antibiotics as a kid) but my body fell apart after having my son 8+ years ago. I have been working with a functional medicine specialist for 7 years and progress has been sooooo slow. I have treated autoimmune, gut, and adrenal issues through diet, supplements, lifestyle changes, exercise, etc. Last summer, I reached what I thought was my peak (ie goal weight, good sleep, etc) but after moving into a new house, everything fell apart again. I’m a physical therapist by trade and had to stop working. I’m hoping that this struggle will help me with my patients once I get back to good health. I won the RGB bundle a while back and am currently going through anabolic while trying to reverse diet because my caloric intake to reach my goal weight was incredibly low (~1300-1400). I can’t seem to get above 1800. I just don’t feel hungry. I’m 5’4.5” and 150 lbs for reference. I got down to 126 lb with walking 12k per day. Once I started adding resistance training, I started gaining weight AND inches. I’m gaining muscle and getting stronger but my measurements are increasing. I prioritize protein, don’t eat sugar, and eat whole food/home cooked meals. I’m currently starting Cellcore to get my detoxification working properly so that I can do the parasite cleanse. It’s just process of elimination until we find what is causing my symptoms.

When do you think about the makeup of muscle fiber type ratios in certain groups, the calves cannot be trained in traditional bodybuilding fashion. They are not designed for that and you really can't change that. I always tell people do heavy loaded carries, front-loaded side-loaded even top loaded, go walking multiple miles a day, which you can easily do by taking a 15-minute walk after every meal, and do sprinting once a week. Your calves will grow

I've got AC joint issues myself. I believe mine started way back in high school playing football. Last year i agitated it hitting a 315 bench pr and honestly i couldn't even bare the pain to bench 135lbs after this. I started taking collagen and doing certain stretching that seemed to make it feel better and also what i believe really helped was i bought a slingshot and slowly worked my bench back up with that. I've since hit the 315lb bench again at 168lb body weight which i think is decent but man I'm telling ya some days if i move a Lil wrong on bench it hurts so i tend to not do too many 1rmaxs anymore on bench. And dips are terrible I'll feel the pinch ASAP but i do do them maybe once a week hoping i can acclimate to it somehow

My surgeon said both AC joints severely degenerated, recommended joint resection and said that would give me some shoulder instability. I simply quit lifting… Now, seven years down the road, at 58, I’ve started again. Working on my form and slow, controlled lifts. Trying to keep my pride and ego in check and not push.

Holy shittt Sal I had surgery for my AC joint. Complete AC joint repair and it’s definitely wack and I can tell it’s a weakness compared to my other one.

I wish I had learnt this earlier, I was taught by my coach years ago to train to failure every single time and I couldn't understand why I plateaued so much. I even got some tendon injuries because of it

My regular trainer had me winning weightlifting championships with appropriate intensity. Another trainer came in and whooped our ass beyond recovery and we regressed when we couldn't train properly next session

I went from every three days to every two days for 3 weeks and i have more shoulder and elbow pain than I have ever had in the last two years of consistent progress with 3 days a week. For me its not just unnecessary to go four days a week but actually dangerous

Found this podcast 2 weeks ago and now my KZbin is riddled with yellow thumbnails lol. Let's all do the free calf raises while sitting and report back with the results.

Who knew that a middle-aged woman would find great resonance in 3 bro-looking guys. But there it is.

That last guy you guys should consider mental well-being. Red flags all over the place with all these vague symptoms, aches and pains. You did mention stress but friend/family connections, career satisfaction etc can send people sky high or into total hell.

I have type 1 diabetes and hate taking insulin so I’m going to try these calf raises before and after eating to see if they have the same effect on my blood sugar👍🏾
