@@johnhostetler2167 exactly in many ways, and I believe JK Rowling mentioned this in her own words, that Harry, unknowingly, had a reverse horcrux in Voldemort after he used his blood to revive himself. This allowed Lilly's Protective Charm to go into Voldemort, and act as a shred of goodness in him. however Voldemort chose to continue an evil path (not totally his fault, since he was conceived though a love potion and hence was never able to feel love) and still tried to kill Harry. In the Forbidden Forest, there were a few factors that made Voldy's killing curse attack his horocrux in harry, but the biggest one is Lilly's Protective Charm being in Voldemort, which means as Voldemort lived, Harry could not die. Now i am convinced this was JK Rowling's secret plot the who storyline: remember the prophesy saying "neither could die while the other lives?" and that Voldemort will "MARK" him as his equal" ? that along with the key detail mentioned by the OC saying how Dumbledore reacted positively when Harry told him how Voldemort used his blood, are key evidences that JK Rowling planned to have Voldemort bring his own downfall through Harry!! Such a genius Rowling is

I thought that basically, because a spell like Avada Kedavra usually only affects one person; that in the event that two souls have died - it would not be congruent with the rules of the spell and that gave Harry the choice to die as well, or return - given that the fragment of Voldemort's soul could not make that choice. Also I don't think that train station was Heaven, that was probably the place between life and death.

I think the fact that the Elder Wand was loyal to Harry and not Tom also played some part in him survivivg the killing curse. It could still be the case of that the horcrux took the hit because the elder wand could not kill its master.

wrong. a regular wand would not be able to kill its master as the power within the wand that fuels the casting of the spell comes from the master. If the master is dying, the wand will loose the magic with which to cast the spell. the only exception is the elder wand which was built without this flaw bc it was built by death himself and had this shifting loyalty.

I think that's Harry's perception of how he would go to heaven or stay back in the living world as a ghost, because Dumbledore said- "It is, as we say, your party" implying that it is Harry's imagination of how he would go to heaven- by taking a train. This imagination can also be a reference to the fact that Harry took the Hogwarts Express to go to Hogwarts, which felt to him like a heaven when compared to living with the Dursleys

@@kanavwastaken The foreshadowing in the Goblet of Fire doesn't justify how it saved Harry from death. The blood used to resurrect Voldemort are of Harry's, the very same one with Lily's protection. If memory serves, it's effectiveness should of worn off the moment Harry came of age. As Harry's protection is gone, so should the one on Voldemort's veins. The Deathly Hallows has, and still makes more sense. The Wand to inflict death The Stone to reverse death The Cloak to evade death Together, they make one the master of death. And there's a reason why this fan theory was widely accepted by many despite it not being canon and debunked by Rowling herself. As you said, love had been the concurrent concept all throughout the books that I don't deem it necessary to reinforce it with the seventh book's title. Other than that, when it comes to the idea of love in the HP franchise, many people were too focused on Lily and Snape that they tend to forget to grasp the bigger picture, and that Harry, Dumbledore, and many other characters are able to express their love as well. The Deathly Hallows book still portrayed love through Harry's sacrifice in the hopes of not only protecting everyone, but also to destroy the Horcrux, all were from an act of love. It is also symbolic in a way, Harry mastering the Deathly Hallows kinda projects how love triumphs over death, or above all else in general, even magic.

In the forrest, there were several things happening at the same time: 1 - The elder wand wouldn't act the way it should've. The cruciatus wasn't working anymore, Harry didn't feel pain while rising in the air, not because of the bloodspell. Bloodspell was present before, in the graveyard, and the curse was excruciating for Harry. But the wand Voldy was using back then was his, BEFORE the regurgitation of their wands and Harry's taking over Voldemort's wand. In the Forbideen Forrest, the wand had changed its allegiance and wasn't acting against Harry in slightest manner. 2 - The bloodspell in Voldemort's body. I think when Dumbledore says "while that enchantment survives, so do you", he does NOT mean that Harry lives as long as Voldemort does. He means as long as Voldemort lives, the enchantment protecting Harry from Voldemort, survives as well. Harry is mortal against others, not against Voldemort. 3 - When hit by the killing curse, the curse could act on TWO beings inside Harry (souls if you will) .... Harry & Voldemort's. Since the killing curse can kill a single being (you never see a killing curse bouncing off killing several people), the curse has to kill one of them. If Harry is killed ("damage beyond repair"), Voldemort's soul will die as well. But another way is to kill Voldemort's soul, and keep the container's soul alive. I think both (the wand assuming Harry as master, and Voldemort having Lily's protection in his body) played a role in the killing curse choosing the latter: destroying Voldemort's soul instead of taking Harry's life. I don't know if this makes sense or not. I always thought it's not a "single" thing that helped Harry survive.

The protection ending when Harry turned 17 wasn't due to an "expiration date" on Lily's blood magic. It stayed in effect as long as Petunia was his guardian, which she ceased to be the moment he became an adult in the wizarding world. When Harry gave himself over in the Forbidden Forest, he put his life in Voldemort's hands, thus making someone with Lily's blood responsible for him again. If Voldemort had used the killing curse without Harry making that choice, Harry would've died.

So, when Lily sacrificed herself for Harry, she inadvertently placed the equivalent of a protection charm on him. But this charm had several caveats: The protection would only work so long as he was under the care of someone who shared Lily's blood, which is why he was made to live with Petunia. In addition, the protection would only last until Harry's sixteenth birthday. Not the sixteenth anniversary of Lily's sacrifice, but the actual day Harry turned 16. Later, Voldemort was reborn with Harry's blood, and therefore Lily's, inside of him. This somehow extended Lily's protection past his sixteenth birthday, and freed up the requirement for Harry to be under the care of the individual carrying Lily's blood. So, from Voldemort's reincarnation during Goblet of Fire until his defeat in Deathly Hallows, Harry was effectively immune from death and there were no stakes. For a less convoluted explanation, consider: Harry was, at this point, the master of the elder wand. When Voldemort struck him with the killing curse, it refused to kill its master and instead killed the part of Voldemort that lived inside of him. Same as in their final duel.

what even snape didn't realize is that dumbledore wasn't raising harry to be sacrificed like a pig when the time came. dumbledore knew if harry fell no one would be able to hold back voldy. that's why when the order of the Pheonix was fighting between themselves, they knew the best bet was to trust dumbledore. dumbledore understood everyone on a level they themselves didn't. convincing horace to come to hogwarts without which the horcrux thing wudn't have been understood. he also understood at some point snape wud be asked to make an unbreakable vow or similar thing by the death eaters to test his loyalty. maybe dumbledore really was death in the deathly hallows story. people die for what they live for.

So when Voldy tried to kill Harry in the forest, both the horcrux and Harry died. However, given Voldy was still alive, so was Lily’s protection. So Harry survived, but the horcrux remained dead

You're forgetting, however, that Dumbledore also invoked a magic that I guess piggybacked off of Lily's sacrifice, meaning that even Voldemort couldn't touch Harry while he was wherever Petunia was. That's the part that was supposed to expire when Harry turned seventeen. Even Voldemort mentions in Goblet of Fire that "Dumbledore invoked an ancient magic to insure the boy's protection as long as he is in his relations' care."

The protection ending when Harry turned 17 wasn't due to an "expiration date" on Lily's blood magic. It stayed in effect as long as Petunia was his guardian, which she ceased to be the moment he became an adult in the wizarding world. When Harry gave himself over in the Forbidden Forest, he put his life in Voldemort's hands, thus making someone with Lily's blood responsible for him again. If Voldemort had used the killing curse without Harry making that choice, Harry would've died.

You're mixing up two different spells: Lily's protection spell and Dumbledore's enhancement spell: The first protection spell was activated when Lily sacrificed her life in order to protect her infant son, Harry from Lord Voldemort. This protection spell has no expiration date. Then there is the second spell. It was cast by Dumbledore. Basically, it is an extension of Lily's protection spell. Albus Dumbledore can extend the protection that flows through Lily Potter's life sacrifice into Harry's veins. The magical extension of Lily's protection spell for her son causes that during Harry's childhood and adolescence, his home with Lily's blood relatives is also under a special protection. This protection lasts only as long as he is at home with Lily's blood relatives. It ends when Harry comes of age and thus becomes independent of his foster parents' home. The magical protection also breaks prematurely if Harry does not return to the Dursleys, or runs away from there, or is thrown out. I hope I was able to help you understand this a little better. I think the main reason for the confusion is the following conversation between Harry and Dumbledore. "But I should have died. I didn't defend myself. I meant to let him kill me" "And that, will, I think, have made all the difference". What it actually means: 1. If Harry defended himself, the killing curse would have rebounded, because he was already Master of the Elder Wand. But Voldemort would only loose his body because of the Horcruxes in Nagini and Harry still being intact. By not defending himself he allowed the Killing Curse to struck the Piece of Voldemort's soul. But that would also mean that Harry's body was destroyed that moment, because a Horcrux can only be destroyed if the container that holds it is utterly destroyed. So Harry was in fact dead for a moment, right ? 2. Because Harry intended do die and didn't know he could survive, he activated the same protection for all of his friends. Harry was able to come back because Voldemort took his blood and therefore a part of Lily's protection. But Harry also had to made the choice of coming back. Otherwise he would remain dead and move on into the afterlife. At that moment, Voldemort was pretty much screwed. He could have hit Harry with the killing curse a thousand times and Harry would be able to come back every time.

i have a theory that when Voldemort "killed" harry the coat of invisibility was still in Harrys possession, and so because of that death literally couldn't find harry. (the three brothers story)
