Lily's protection didn't extend to Petunia's house just because of being blood relatives, but because thanks to Lily's sacrifice, Dumbledore quickly invoked some ancient magic to extend it until Harry turned 17. It was the sacrifice and Dumbledore's foresight that gave Harry protection "as long as he returned each summer". Kind of specific, is it not, that he has to return at least once a year to keep the protection on? Because of Dumbledore's spell.

Did Dumbledore know what would happen, or did he expect that Harry would die? It is important to remember, Harry was *NOT* speaking to Dumbledore at the phantom King's Cross. Rather it was a manifestation of his own personality that took the form of Dumbledore.

Reading it, I always took it that the piece of Voldemort's soul took the full brunt of the killing curse but that in order to do so Harry had to offer himself up freely which triggered some ancient deep magic related to his mother having done the same for him. Yes, the use of Harry's blood in Voldemort's resurrection was crucial. Of course Harry sacrificing himself protected the others. He points this out explicitly to Voldemort.

Ditto. When he used Harry's blood to make his new body, Voldemort made it impossible for Harry to die at his hands. He screwed himself over when he insisted on killing Harry himself. Bellatrix could have killed Harry. Any of Voldemort's allies could have killed Harry. But Voldemort could never kill Harry. I think that's why the wand backfired on him. It was Harry's own blood, imbibed with Lily's protection magic, that rebelled against Voldemort.

I'm of a mind that Dumbledore could have defeated Voldemort without allowing him to regain his body. Regardless of the outcome of the Tri wizard tournament, the horcruxes needed to be found and destroyed. I also think the books would have been more satisfying if they'd found and destroyed one every year starting with the second book.

Harry was the true master of the Elder Wand after he disarmed Draco at Malfoy Manor. It would not kill him. It killed the piece of Voldy in him, but not him.

In order for curses to work you must mean to use curse. It also may have to do with victim not wanting to die. Curse therefore was weakened so it couldn't kill.

Any chance Severus Snape helped Lily with her spells to protect Harry then years later Snap still protecting Lily’s son he gave some spell instructions to Voldemort which worked against Voldemort in the end? Wasn’t Snape a great spell creator? Great proof of undying love.
