Blood Omen 1&2 are available on PlayStation 4&5. They became available as ps classics in November 2024 and are free for ps premium members. I know this isn’t a remaster or remake, but there is save states and rewind, some upscaling and video options, and a full trophy list (including platinum). I think this deserves a mention. As mentioned, publishers note the buzz and activity around games. The more people buy and download these the better. I’m currently playing Blood Omen for the first time this way and loving it.

Blood omen 1 needs both a remaster and a full remake. A remake could really expand on the RPG and adventuring elements with the standards we've come to expect over the years from other titles in the genre. I'd personally love to see more emphasis on initially surviving then thriving with the vampiric curse. Moving up from surviving in towns to being able to explore Nosgoth in full, using blood as a survival and growth mechanic necessary to tackle all the original adventuring and dungeon segments we'd expect from the original. Hell I'd love to see a Blood Omen 2 in this vein where we get to conquer Nosgoth as Kain. Nobody more than I wants to see the Legacy of Kain renaissance!

To be honest, I think it ends perfectly. It wasn't the story of how he saves the world, it was the trip out of the Shire. Any game that comes next is just the start of the real job he has to get done, and I don't think they can launch and conclude a Legacy of Kain story in one game.

To be honest, blood omen is an old-school overhead perspective RPG. It has cinematic visuals that didn't age well. It's a great story! But it needs better than a remaster. Blood Omen 1 needs a remake, not a remaster.

Blood Omen could be easily fixed if the make an HD2D remake like Dragon Quest III and for the cinematics they could replace the old models with newly created ones like they did with the Soul Reaver remasters.

Blood Omen's cutscenes were made in Martin Hash's Animation Master V3 btw. At that time it didn't have any support for polygons so everything was made out of spline patches. The rendering engine didn't even have support for triangles at the scanline rendering level it rasterized spline based surfaces directly into pixels.

@@DarkShadow-pe6udI think a modern 2D remake is probably the best we could practicly get. Even if they did a 3D remake it's going to be budget. I think the better way might be a full 2D remaster with high res pixel art in a dark gothic style replacing the original frankly ugly sprites and tiles. Look at games like Blasphemous for what this could look like. While a modern high budget 3D remake would be great realistically that's just not in the cards and I'd prefer beautiful pixel art over cheap looking budget 3D. As for cutscenes again, maybe the best way would be to just lean into 2D for that, remake them as 2D cell animation or if that's too expensive go with the "motion comics" method (e.d Twisted Metal II, Twisted Metal: Head On, etc)

Outdated info. Legal issues were solved ages ago and Blood Omen Legacy of Kain were made available on PC and playstation 4 and 5 recently. Agreed that a 3D remake makes more sense than a remaster though

Blood Omen has a spiritual successor made by the perfect developers to remake the game. V Rising's weapons and attack animations seem to be so entirely inspired by Blood Omen that I fully expect to hear my character yell "Vay Victis!" after every third sword swing. V Rising also takes heavy inspiration from other aspects of Blood Omen but it fixes the main problem of Legacy of Kain by providing amazing combat and controls and it wouldn't really take too much more effort to mod V Rising into Blood Omen. Stunlock Studios would be the perfect developer to take on a Blood Omen Remake , keep all of the original audio and give the rest of the game the V Rising treatment and you have something amazing on your hands.

They should do a game where you play as the Vampire Raziel, set during the thousand years he was Kain’s loyal Lieutenant. You could start off seeing his human self being murdered by his future Wrath self, becoming a newborn Vampire Fledgling, and gradually over the course of a thousand years evolving to the winged vampire before Kain casts him into the pit after ripping his wings off. Naturally set in a completely open world, similar to Skyrim. That would be cool!

Maybe reach out to Jake Pawloski and maybe invest in his vison of Legacy of Kain: Prodigal Sons maybe set him up with a capable team to bring it to life. and last but not least. 3. revive Nosgoth and port it to consoles aswell, the game had great potenial and now in this day in age of cross play and multiplayer action games it would be fantastic and bring back old and new fans alike.

the Soul Reaver remasters have done far better than they expected in preorders. which is a good indicator that it's going to sell well on release. I would fully expect a remaster of Defiance and possibly Blood Omen 2 next year. after that though. it would make a lot of sense to remake the Original Blood Omen before doing a whole new game. I love the first blood omen game. Especially at it's release it was such a unique setting letting you play an unforgiving antihero. The voice acting and soundtrack as well as the world Nosgoth is charmingly terrifying. Looking forward to play the game after such a long time. Sony delivered us a true christmas gift with Blood Omen and the Soul Reaver remaster. I deeply hope this will revitalize the franchise.

I doubt that there are any legal troubles anymore, because Blood Omen 1 got rereleases just recently. Its part of the Evercade "Legacy Of Kain"-Collection, together with Soul Reaver (which was the first step from Embracer bringing the series back) as well as a PS Classic. The technical stuff is much more important nowadays. Even "2D" games often are built using 3D engines, so Blood Omen would be either just a simple port of the original (like the previously mentions ports) or... had to be rebuilt in a modern engine to support any sort of higher res art. Like you mentioned.

No, there was a legal battle before Soul Reaver released and Crystal Dynamics owns all of LOK. Silicon Knights shut down in the 2000s after Too Human. There is no legal issue about ownership.

I LOVE Kain and Raziel, their story is so unique and epic. And by the end they both realise they're getting played and join forces the best they can. It's so epic when Raziel gives into his fate of being absorbed by the reaver. A sequel to Defiance with Kain using the true reaver with raziels soul would of been awesome. And it was left open for a sequel and then abandoned sad face :(. Thanks for the vid dude. The Legacy Of Kain is truly an amazing tale if only we knew the outcome haha. Remaster out in 3 days! Blood omen would not have done well as a remaster, its gameplay is too outdated even for me and im 33. It just would not have sold well. When i was a kid it was soul reaver that everyone knew about first then blood omen second. I would rather watch a run of blood omen than play it, for the lore. I completely agree. I learned of Blood Omen via Soul Reaver, so by time I played it, Blood Omen already felt very dated with its long load times, slow gameplay, and pixelated graphics. I beat it, but it felt like a slog and I can’t remember much of the game, nor did I ever want to pick it up again. A remake can fix the dated feel of the game. As far as I’m concerned, Blood Omen 2 is fan-fiction. I never played it and wasn’t interested even when the game was new.

There was a lawsuit over the ownership, with Crystal Dynamics having been accused of stealing the IP through coercion. Silicon Knights didn't want to work on the sequels with crystal dynamics due to issues during development.

I'm probably the only one, but over a 3D remake, I'd prefer a 4k hand-drawn remake from the same perspective as the original. Get some really good artists in there and make everything look like the most dark, fantasy moving illustration ever. Hi-res pre-rendered 3D for cutscenes.

A blood omen remaster is very tricky. If it's rebuilt from the ground up in its top down gameplay then it will still feel outdated even with completely new detailed sprites. If it's redone in full 3D like Soul Reaver then it's basically an entirely different game and that risks losing the charm of the original. Imo I think remaking Blood Omen in the isometric gameplay style akin to Diablo 2 Resurrected or better yet V Rising would breathe new life into Blood Omen. While also retaining the charm of the original. Regarding new entries, I definitely want to see something new to either continue where Defiance left off or side stories that can explore the story of Vorador from his perspective or possibly a prequel prior to the construction of the pillars and the imprisonment of the Hylden. The major issue with a new entry is to avoid failures like Nosgoth and Dead Son. The entries need to retain a well established connection to the current games lore and expand further upon it. Also, the Voice actors did some massive heavy lifting alongside the well written dialogue that I fear any new modern entries may lack one or the other if not both would be a major let down 😢

However, since he died before Blood Omen started, why wasn't there a new Scion of Balance instantly, but instead Kain retained his role as the Scion after resurrections?

You referred to the Circle of Nina's 'vampiric' and, while that was originally true/the intent lorewise into he universe, by Blood Omen 1 they were ALL humans with the exception of Kain after his deal to be able to get revenge for his death.

honestly i think the biggest challenge with a blood omen 1 reissue would be money, is a riskier gamble since 1.not all the fans of soul reaver are acquainted with blood omen 2. is a complete different genre of game 3. is a harder sell because point 1 and 2 and it would most certaintly need to be a full remake rather than a remaster to adapt it to modern times and that immediately would make the cost of production several times higher 4.i think is 100% expected that denis dyack WILL step in and demand a share of the profits, making it once again, a harder sell

Maybe reach out to Jake Pawloski and maybe invest in his vison of Legacy of Kain: Prodigal Sons maybe set him up with a capable team to bring it to life. and last but not least. 3. revive Nosgoth and port it to consoles aswell, the game had great potenial and now in this day in age of cross play and multiplayer action games it would be fantastic and bring back old and new fans alike.

The biggest question is why they didn’t finish the story with a Defiance sequel. Travesty for someone who played all the games and followed the story of both Kain and Raziel and finally seeing them team back up at the end of defiance and accept their fates.

It's time to remake blood omen 1. Maybe I'm not creative enough, but I never really thought there was anywhere else to go after Defiance. Some kind of second hilden war, I guess would be cool. But restoring nosgoth would be weird at this point. I'm sure they could have figured something clever out, though. Who knows But then Tony Jay died... too bad. Such a talent.

Blood omen 2 was so fun and defiance even better. Never played the first but watched a playthrough. I'll bit Soul Reaver not just cuz it was good but in how that I can play as main again one day

Blood Omen 1 deserves a remake/remaster. I remember playing it after Soul Reaver and the story made more sense. Blood Omen 2 is just a bastard child that didn’t need to happen. We can forget that one

Because no one these days (mainstream players) are not interested in top down rpg-esque games. Therefore they would have to full on remake the game which costs more money which is not going to happen.

I’m of those who would have preferred to have LoK 1 and 2 remade than soul river. But I understand it wasn’t. It would have been a lot more work to remake/remaster LoK 1 and 2 than it did Soul River. I’m hopeful that with the success of rivers remasters that we’ll see LoK get some work done.
