I also did forget to mention: One way the Sea Dragons likely survived is by traveling through the corridor that connected the Inactive Lava Zone and the Crash Zone. Sea Dragons would have traveled through this in order to hunt Reaper Leviathans and other fauna. This corridor was covered up when the Aurora crashed however which may be another cause to the Sea Dragons recent decline. Another thing that could contribute is that since the Sea Emperor was able to survive for thousands of years and since the Sea Dragons is related to the Sea Emperor, the Sea Dragons life span could be incredibly long, possibly thousands of years which would allow the species to survive.

The reason that leviathans, in game and in real life, are able to survive is that they don't actually need to eat as much as you think. Look up Kleiber's Law. (This is why the deeper you go in Earth's ocean, as there is less food, there are also more large creatures such as the giant squid because they have a metabolic advantage)
@emperorofgondar3 жыл бұрын
But still, they have to eat a pretty large, albeit not as large as expected amount of food, however, the fact, that the corridor leading to what now is the crash zone was blocked by the Aurora after crash, and that skeletons of Reaper Leviathans in the lava zones are a few months old, it would take a while before the Sea Dragons begin to starve. Not to mention that they may posses the ability to lower their metabolic activity if needed.

Riley Robinson likely also would've caused a massive population boom of literally everything with the near elimination of the Kharaa bacterium, so if a third part of Subnautica occurred after Below Zero, taking place in the crater once more, it's entirely possible that if the Devs wanted to be realistic there could be a stupid number of these, and everything else, due to a likely jump in population and biodiversity.

Given a mod team is literally getting support from the devs in order to reconstruct the Gargantuan Leviathan, it's not out of the realm of possibility.
@thestonepilot82423 жыл бұрын
Another theory to keep in mind is deep sea gigantism, many species in our deep oceans can go years without eating despite the massive size of them for some odd reasons. Due to the reapers being the highest population of leviathans it could easily be possible that their low energy movements combined with the molten minerals in it's environment could lead us to speculate that the sea dragon might only need a single reaper to survive for a very long time

Ok so here’s my insane theories: To survive, what if similar to plants photosynthesis, the sea dragons managed to somehow adapt or had always had the ability to absorb thermal energy and survive through that and that’s why there are so few, they can’t reproduce with their energy basically only coming from thermal with little vitamins or protein and the like. Also how they survived the kharaa is through the fact that they are related to the sea emperor and although they can’t protect others from kharaa, they can protect themselves

Heat beats Kharra, Or with us it does, We SPIT lava, But just because we're both squid things doesn't mean we're related, Now i have theorized that crater's edge ghost leviathans lived off of the "Microscopic organisms" (That i just called alien plankton) that only exist cause of the soft glow of the ghost leviathans, Just like the "crabsnake eats small herbivores that eat the mushrooms and what they dont eat fertilizes the mushrooms", But we eat reapers, THERES AN ENTRANCE TO THE LOST RIVER AT THE MOUNTAINS AND THE LAVA ZONE ENTRANCE IS RIGHT THERE!
@armourfarmer5953 жыл бұрын
@@deweytheseadragon5100 it is a well known fact that the cuddle fish, the sea emperor and the sea dragon had a common ancestor. It’s even referenced in the fabricator facility in below zero. Also the sea dragons can’t really eat reapers well and it is only a last resort as they aren’t adapted to the reaper’s pressure and so can’t reliably eat them especially as they have to drag the reapers down to the lava zone with them struggling all the while. Also heat doesn’t kill kharaa effectively as it killed all of the sea dragons’ food and can be found on every type of lava creature except the dragon

(in its data entry it talked about using a certain type of wave) Would the Aurora only cause that little damage to its surrounding area after the crash? (terrain and radiation) Is the Scanner Room's Cameras range long or short? (I've always thought they were remarkably short for atleast 2.5 million years in the future) And my final one is will Unknown Worlds ever provide updates to the original Subnatuica?

@1puppetmaster4 жыл бұрын
Echolocation is the process of emitting sound and listing to the reply. As odd as it may sound, sound actully travels better in water. When the reapers (or many types of real whales) make calls the sound continues until it hits something once it does it is reflected back to the source. The returning sound also tell the size and shape of whate is being detected. The cyclops makes noise as it movies in the water and the leviathan hear it. This is how real submarines try to find each other while hunting.

I think that the Sea Dragon Leviathan species survived off of Lava Insects. Yes, Lava Insects. You see, the creatures you find in the lava zones, the Lava Larva, is referred to as being in the larval stage of its species, so presumably, it could get much bigger than it is. The reason the larva never mature is probably because of the same reason eggs never hatch in the wild and have to be relocated to an Alien Containment. How they are still able to reproduce, I am not sure, but it could be a distinct trait for the species, maybe have been introduced by genetic modification from the Kahraa Bacterium. So the Sea Dragons probably ate Lava Insects until their extinction, Reaper Leviathans, until the Aurora presumably blocked off the cave entrance the dragons used to surface, and today, they rely on nutrients from magma, Crimson Rays, Lava Lizards, and maybe Lava Larva, Magmarangs, and Red Eyeyes.

Sea Dragons are likely Cold Blooded considering they are reptilian and live in hot areas which dont require warm blood, and cold blooded creatures require much less food than warm blooded creatures as producing your own heat requires a constant supply of energy. Also because of the heat in the area and the flame breath its likely that creatures can end up being cooked when attacked by a Sea Dragon because of them ya know, breathing fire, and cooking food is much easier to digest, in fact, when an animal eats something most of the energy is used in digestion leaving just enough to survive on, however because cooked food is easier to digest more of that energy can used for other purposes. TL;DR Sea Dragon is Cold Blooded and the heat cooks food meaning they require less food bc cold blood and food gives more energy when its cooked
@deweytheseadragon51003 жыл бұрын
Correct.
@lolomanu16004 жыл бұрын
i want to add that maybe because the sea dragons lived in hotter climates it might kill the bacteria and make other species go lower to fined uninfected prey but after the creatures adapted to the Kara they would be less creatures down there so the sea dragon species slowly reduced to 3 but even is they reproduced the probably lay 1 egg at a time suggested by the precursors taking only 1 , if not the case the sea dragon went after them immediately so it was probably only the 1.

My guess would be that the sea dragon leviathan naturaly prayed on reaper leviathans. The biggest entrance to the lost river and the lava zone is just at the endge of the mountains where reapers have their territory. My guess would be that the crash of the aurora did destroy a part of the safe shallows where the reaper leviathans had their breeding grounds. Like sharks they could wander over there just to lay eggs and the young reapers would have enough pray in the safe shallows to grow until they migrate to the deep waters. Due to the aurora destroying that breeding ground the reapers don't have their breeding ground and that could be the reason why we don't see reaper eggs or young reaper leviathans. Since we don't see other bones in the lava zone I doubt that the sea dragon levathians pray on other big leviatans. And the only skeletons that we find in the lost river seem to be quite old. Maybe they prayed on one of the other leviathans before but since they survived for a long time after this I guess that these creatures where able to adept to the reapers being their new food source. I like your theorie that the sea dragons can consume lava and rocks. My guess would be that they get their minerals through that source of food but not for calorie intake. Reapers seem to be very strong and muscular so they would be a good source of protein and fat. I think the food is not the biggest issue for the species. Seeing that there are only 3 specimiens in the crater remaining (and one that died during the attack on the facility). I think that breeding is a big problem for the leviathans. With such a small population in one area I doubt that these leviathans are not related. They might be a species that only lays small clutches of eggs and protects it's young. Which is supported by the fact that the sea dragon mother came out of her natural habitat to find her eggs and rescue them. Seeing how small that population is i guess that they might be living in family groups and travel in order to find partners and breed, coming back to their hatching grounds in order to lay the eggs and hatch them. Since the ghost leviathan near the entrence of the lave zone shows no fear of it or injuries I think it's not obsurd to think that those species peacefully co-exist. While traveling the deep ocean sea dragon leviathans would probably not have a problem with the ghost leviathans and the migration to find mates would be possible. The problem might now be that the breeding circle is quite long for that species. It might even be possible that the two leviathans in the lava lakes are the children of the leviathans living in the inactive lava zone. Due to the long way for mating and the precursers stealing a clutch of the eggs the species might have a harsh time populating. And since they seem to live in vulcanos and prefer the heat there might not be a lot of suited envorinment around the planet for the species. I like your theories, but I don't believe that the sea dragons main food source is supposed to be a species that did go extinct and not the reaper leviathans. I do agree with the fact that these creatures probablc consume lava and rock for nurishment and mainly minerals. As I said I think the main problem for the sea leviathans is not the food source but rather the mating process. Good video will defenetly check out more of yout videos. 👍🏻 Maybe you should go in the direction of biology since your theories where pretty good.

My theoru is that since the sea dragon is related to the sea emperor it also produced an enzyme similar to enzyme 42 and just didnt eject it, allowing it to survive the bacterium and help its digesting the rocks.

What if the Sea Dragons hunted Research Specimen Theta’s species? It’s big enough to provide a lot of food, and I assume the Sea Dragon would be able to kill it with it’s fireballs, and maybe crush it’s bone?
@kitchengun11752 жыл бұрын
I think that sea dragons can or could likely also be found inside deep sea trenches and smaller volcanic craters in the open ocean, and their historic food source would have been the giant plankton eaters in the sea like ghost leviathans and young sea emperors, since they could definitely provide enough food to sustain a species that large the crater might have been a nesting ground for the species, meaning the three could be the other young of mama dragon, who hatched and have since reached adulthood without a parent and become trapped in the lava zone with no way out (made even worse by the Aurora's crash)

a little fyi changing an organisms feeding pattern is really hard, if not impossible. the few exceptions we know about are those from animals that are already partially omnivores. So if a claim like "the bacterium mutated them making them able to sustain on new material" means that somehow the bacterium would need to alter the entire DNA code of the host and doing so would result in death or in cancer but more often death.

My theory I think it is possible, but rather unlikely, that the dragon feeds on the precursors that did not successfully evacuate 4546B that still survive to this day and are trapped in the lava area.Maybe as attempts to end their own suffering they feed themselves to the dragon to feel the sweet release of a quick death by being eaten, instead of a long drawn out death from starvation.Either this or Some of the aurora, or even Degasi, survivors made it down somehow to the lava zone, only to be either eaten by the dragon or trapped down their in one of the precursor structures, suffering a similar fate to the earlier mentioned precursors that failed to evacuate in time. Great vid as usual Mouse, just subbed.

i have a theory perhaps the reason the precursors took a sea dragon egg is because they are immune to kharra bacterium. and where trying to study them to figure out how. and if this was true, maybe sea dragons actually eat kharra bacterium from time to time, and also other prey. but this is just a theory i meant "what if they are immune to kharra" i don't understand why they would just go steal their egg. they probably had a reason.

I have a few ideas, Is there a planet in real life that is similar too the planet you are on in subnautica? How did is sea emperor still alive? What are the warpers technically? How did the Khaaraa virus spread? How was the planet before the khaara virus? What are the backstory’s behind the items that are locked in the cages (I think it was where the portals were)
@deweytheseadragon51003 жыл бұрын
Here's answers to all of those: While there is no planet with a giant ship crashed, We've found out there's a planet like it IRL. The sea emperor dies after subnautica, but her children appear in Below zero. Warpers are bioweapons. Kharra spreaded because one of the sea dragons rammed into the disease research facility. There's a few easter eggs, But other than those nobody really knows. There, i gave you answers. And now i'm realizing those were video ideas, not questions.

Oh also, it could possibly live that long off of so few prey depending on a few factors I thought of: 1) How much calories do they burn through on average every, let’s say, hour? 2) How much calories do the prey around where it resides contain, and/or much can they get from the lava/rocks. 3) How fast is their metabolism? 4) Is it possible that the heat from where it lives have an effect to cause it to have to have less calories? After all it would have to use a lot less energy to stay warm therefore saving energy/calories (or whatever you want to call it) for other things or to just store it away. I also feel like since molecules move faster in high temperatures that might fit in somewhere as well hypothetically speaking. 5) Since it doesn’t move that fast, or more than likely little effort needed to move, it would save energy for when it either a) does move fast, or b) for any other process 6) since it has no competition in terms of fighting for prey, or anything trying kill it in general, they wouldn’t have to waste any energy fighting. 7) due to its enormous size it could easily catch up to any prey, that may try to swim away, with very little effort and then easily devour it in its massive jaws. 8) How fast does it’s body age? Obviously humans can last quite awhile. Up to about 80-90 years on average although of course some people live 100 or even past that, I’m not going to include that since a majority of people don’t, it stands to reason it can age even slower than us so it would take up less energy to grow hypothetically. I’m comparing this to How when teenagers are in a growth spurt they eat a lot more due to that. Of course since we don’t how fast they grow or the approximate amount of energy it takes to do so for different parts of it’s physical structure when they’re younger, it’s harder to determine. At the same time though, since they would be smaller it would be easier for them to move faster due to their small stature and aslo because they would need less energy compared to a full grown Sea Dragon. Of course I’m making that assumption based on biotic organisms here on earth which tend to eat less when they’re younger due to the fact that don’t need as much because they don’t use that much. Their stomach’s are also smaller. So without knowing more about the autonomy of them when they’re younger and the behaviors it’s hard to make an educated guess. Those are my thoughts anyways. I feel as though these assumptions may be a bit inaccurate since I’m basing this off of more in depth biology that I know of and while some would be easy to compare to the alien life on 4546B some of it is harder without knowing how their cells function in their environment compared to here on earth where the conditions are much different. But the biggest thing that’ll contribute to their survival that we don’t know of at all....how do THEY reproduce? They may be able to do it on their own somehow but if they need a partner of the other gender we are unsure as to if any of the remaining 3 (that’s the amount that we know of that are relativity near each other, right?) have at LEAST one of the opposite. But most importantly if they do need a partner and there happens to be one of the opposite gender.....would they even be able to reach each other...?

in the beta the way u got to the lava zone was a big hole next to the crash site, the dragon will swim up and take the reaper down but now the aurora block the hole so after the events of Subnautica they most likely died out
@chronicfailure90924 жыл бұрын
Because you didn't get a definite answer let me tell you (What I believe) is the canonical reason thr sea dragon is alive. Before the aurora crash site was made they planned on making that part of the map a massive hole to the inactive lava zone but because they added the aurora and had to keep the map size medium they used the hole's location to put the Aurora. So what happened was (I am pretty sure this is explained in game) the Aurora crashed on the hole and caused the hole to collapse. The crash site was believed to either be a breeding grounds for reapers or where they live. This would explain how the sea dragons survived so long outside because they would not be too far from the ILZ to die from biome related causes. They lured reapers down the hole and ate them there. This explaines how they survived kharraa because reapers digestive system contained trace enzyme 42 from host peepers. It explains how they survived massive food requirements and the kharra. The sea dragons probably lived off of smaller fish after their primary food was blocked and that explains why they are easy to survive from. (That last part isn't supported by in game explanations but by my observations so take it with a grain of salt.)
@SpeedyMouse4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think you're very right there. I was aware of that hole and I probably should've mentioned it. Although, I still am not sure if there are enough Reapers to support many Sea Dragons.
@chronicfailure90924 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedyMouse for that reaper problem I am pretty sure the breeding grounds thing helps. They could target the adults and leave the children. Depending on reaper breeding rates the reapers they eat can be replaced by the baby reapers growing up. This can also explain why reapers don't grow out of control even though an ubundance of food is around them. I understand your point however there are plausible theories. Sorry if I come off strongly I naturally speak in a debate like manner
@SpeedyMouse4 жыл бұрын
@@chronicfailure9092 No, no problem, I think you're right. There may be enough Reapers. And I think the fact that that corridor used to exist combined with the other possibilities explains it well. my theory is that when their prey was alive they ate a ton of their food and when the bacteria made their prey extinct they consumed their internal fat which could be why the reaper leviathan is so thin
