It’s also worth mentioning that Angola left OPEC yesterday. There seems to be tensions inside OPEC, as many countries don’t want to cut oil production. Nigeria for example. This might lead to OPEC not being able to influence oil prices as much.

It's a catch-22 for the Saudis. When oil prices are high, it becomes profitable for the Americans to produce via fracking and oil shale/sands production. So they flood the market in order to drive the Americans out of business. But low oil prices means that 2030 project is looking more like a 2060 or 2070 project and by then most people will be driving something other than a combustible gas car.

Not only that, but renewable energy is getting so competitive now that pushing the price up of oil or gas will lead to more renewable energy adoption. This isn't like the past where Opec could control the price and there was nothing we could do about it, since the war in Ukraine, there's been a massive drive to renewable energy to create independence when it comes to energy generating, the higher the price is of fossil fuels, the better it is for the renewable industry and the quicker that takes over, being that cars and heating is going electrics, it's becoming high risk for the fossil industry to bump up the price, and even if they do, they likely can't do it long term because renewables is getting cheaper and better. Also as you point out, those countries are divided, if one country tries to bump the price up, another might take that opening to sell more oil or gas, after all, the value of oil and gas is likely going to be much lower than it is now, so better to sell now, even on the cheap, then not be able to sell at all in the future. Either way, let them play their games, they'll end up killing those industries much sooner than it would be and in the case of Russia and Saudi Arabia, considering how dependant they are on oil and gas revenues, it won't do those countries any favours, and naturally, they'll blame the west for not buying their resources, even thought they created this situation by being political and playing with the price of that resource, basically, the situation they are creating for themselves, they've only got themselves to blame, especially Russia, which are being screwed over by the west and by China, I wonder if Putin even realises that yet.

@@darius8214 But they do care about the Iranians because the Saudis won't fight outside of an air conditioned building. Without the US, the Saudis have no security guarantees against the Islamo-fascist regime in Teran. Are the Russians supposed to fill that void? Fat chance, especially since the Russians are now buddy buddy with the Iranians. The Prince will have to make some sacrifices and walk a fine line here.

They're not ''suddenly'' best mates, they just still mates. Just like China, India, Kazakstan, most of Africa, most of South America and most of South-East Asia are still mates with Russia. I mean you guys do realize that the reason why every sanction votes against Russia passed in the U.N. is because the 93 small island nations who all mostly rely on the US for everything almost all voted in favor of them right? As far as world population goes, two-thirds of the world live in a country that either abstained from those votes or voted in Russia's favor. I don't know why it's taking some people this long to realize that Russia is nowhere near as isolated as the US and EU say they are.

In the game of geo-politics; at least the "Big Boys" version, you find your allies and your enemies alike wherever you find them and an ally of convenience is still an ally nonetheless. As Lord Palmerston so eloquently put it in an earlier time - "We have no permanent allies and no permanent enemies. We have permanent interests." MBS no doubt has his own reasons for chumming up with the like of China and now Russia but uppermost amongst them is likely that he is increasingly seeing the traditional centers of power in the west; namely the US and Europe, the way a great many others are seeing them.... feckless, weak, unreliable, hopelessly divided and obsessed with trivial nonsense. In those circumstances, who wouldn't go looking for new friends?

The U.S is the only great power who can actually defend Saudi interests both regionally and globally. Neither China nor Russia can secure maritime trade routes for them, and neither can effectively defend them on the ground if relations with Iran collapse and war breaks out between the two historic enemies. MBS has consistently irritated the west with oil price wars and exporting Islamic extremism. Saudi Arabian has been a lynchpin to U.S Middle East relations and strategic goals but now with Israel losing international support and Saudi moving towards eastern powers the U.S is simply losing interest in the middle east in general which spells disaster for the Arabian kingdoms if Iran is left unchecked in the region.

Saudi Arabia and the USA are very close allies and the USA is by FAR the closest ally Saudi Arabia has. They have standing agreements on everything and the USA has more airbases in Saudi than any other state in the middle east including Israel. The idea of Saudi being friends with Iran (their historical number one enemy) is laughable. You may as well say Hamas are allying with the USA. Both are just as ridiculous as the other. The Saudi government has never once helped Palestine in anything and has helped the USA many times. They care about money far more than anything else.

Saudis relationship with the US will never be the same again. Otherwise why is it joining BRICS and slowly but surely moving out of the petrol-dollar? The reasons are more systematic than just personal or geo-political relationships between countries? For a start the West aggressive push towards green energy is an existential threat not only to OPEC but all oil producing countries future? The Saudis are therefore forced to diversify their economy and its over-dependence on oil revenues. It sees Russia and China as the best candidates that will help it achieve its goals. Furthermore, the US is no longer buying oil from the Saudis but China is now its biggest customers...So naturally it has closer relationships with China than the US? Russia and China can also provide security to the Saudis which has traditionally been the US forte? Last but not least, US abuse of unilateral sanctions against Russia and countries it deem unfriendly and unwilling to toe the line is the straw that broke the camel's back. Countries of the world has lost confidence in US leadership and the thing that is always in their minds is, if it can happen to them, it can also happen to us? Don't forget Biden call Saudi Arabia a pariah state...and this kind of comments from the leader of the world most powerful country don't resonate well with the rest of the world.

MBS is acting as a middle man for the US. Saudi completely depends on the US for air defense, logistics protection, and national defense. Saudi Soldiers are not trained on the tech provided by the US. Either US DoD contractors or US Military run all major systems. They are completely dependent on the US. This man doesn’t know or understand that. That is all this was, and will ever be.

It is actually funny when Americans start saying "after all what we did to Saudi Arabia they do this to us" Did you guys ever think about the things you did that hurt Saudi Arabia!!? The relation between the US and Saudi Arabia isn't an alliance, but mutual benefits, you give me something i give you something, look at what you did that doesn't agree and harmed Saudi Arabia. Here are some examples the unnecessary Iraqi war in 2003 and give Iraq to Iran on golden plate, the Arab's spring, Iran's nuclear program and allowing them to expand under Obama...etc

@@thetaomega7816 that's a lie, Saudi Arabia opposed the US's invasion and didn't allow them to use their air space because we knew the moment Saddam get down Iraq will blow up into a semi civil war, which what happened, and the religious war blow up too as the US gave more power to the Shia. We Saudis predicted this, and Bush and his government didn't care as they wanted someone to take the blame.

I think almost all your points are wrong. So Russia's oil revenue is roughly about 10 to 15% of their overall GDP. Growth in Russia is expected to be 3.5%. Does that look desperate. Even it is true, that Russia floated the market for a short time due to cash issues, there was never an issue of Saudi/Russian relations. They were always close. And the Saudi's did not distance themselves from the US cause of human rights issues but the hegemon behavior of the US

@@milesjolly6173yes an easy one really. Saudi. Increased oil production a while ago to bankrupt shale oil producers in the USA, not to do anything to Russia. The USA Needs high oil prices due to the very high cost of shale oil. Whilst Russia has low oil production costs. So just on this point they are miles off.
