Whenever they play this song, the sun sets gently just below the horizon, a light fog rolls in on a cool breeze, a crescent moon sets everything aglow in silver-blue. Then angels gather around and hover overhead just to rest awhile and listen. It's Midnight in Harlem. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHjOlXafpth5i6s

Derek is the home of the soul of Duane Allman. Duane is considered to be the Godfather of the electric slide guitar. His untimely death at 24 years old, left a void in the guitar universe. I believe that soul wandered looking for a home to continue on with and I believe Derek became that home. Derek plays the way Duane would have had he lived. Derek has been playing on stage since he was 10. By 13 he was a regular featured slide player for The ABB. B.B. King called him the best he's heard. He and Susan met and for a longtime tried to make room for each other in their hectic touring lives. Finally, they decided the only way they could date is if they got married. They also decided that they would join their two bands together and tour. They told their respective bands they were welcome to join together with them and make one big band. Some members chose to move in a different direction knowing the door was always open to them to come back. They still have that policy and from time to time old members like JJ Johanson (Jaimoe) has come back a couple of times. He was one of the founding members of The ABB. Today he is the last of the original band still living. Derek's Uncle Butch was also an original member of ABB as a drummer. Susan has the best Blues voice out there. She also is a very good Blues guitarist and has a solo or two each concert set.

Derek is easily in my first handful of favorite guitarists. He played with the Allman Bros. for a number of years. You might want to check out one of those. I was blessed to have seen him with his solo band in the late 90's and again with Susan just two years ago. When I attended that concert, my health had deteriorated so badly that my youngest son had to practically carry me through the venue and it has since worsened so much that it will have been the last concert I attend. But again blessed to have had this! So glad you enjoyed. Hope you do more. Truth is, I have a crush on both of them!!

This is great. Angel has long been (rightfully) considered a Bonnie Raitt song - one of her best. But Susan gives it due respect and the linking with Sugaree kicks it up a notch. 2 Tedeschi Trucks recommendations that really show off Susan's talent: Let Me Get By and The Sky is Crying (usually considered a SRV song). The whole band is sooo tight and talented. Derek is the nephew of the original Allman Bros drummer and was a guitar prodigy from a very young age. He maintained his connection to the Allman Bros before joining forces with Susan for TTB. Seeing them live is to experience an entire auditorium captivated. BTW - the flute player was Kofi Burbridge who did keyboards as well as the flute. He has sadly passed away and is sorely missed.

Kofe Burbridge, the keyboardist and flautist, unfortunately passed a few years back, devasting the band. His brother used to play with the band too. They are multi-instrumentalists. Their dad made Kofe play the flute when he was growing up but Kofe really wanted to play the piano and eventually mastered that as well. Incredibly talented loss. The band as a whole is an incredible live band to see.

Derek Trucks was a member of the Allman Brothers in recent years.I saw him play in the 80's when he was about 10 years old.He was playing on the Crab Pot beachside deck with Leon Wilkeson and Artimus Pyle who were members of Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was amazing even at that age,His uncle Butch Trucks was a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band

Even though I am an old Boomer I try to keep current with most Genres but there is so much music available now with the Internet. I hadn't heard of this group and it's why I love reaction videos. This is great... She does justice to this and being raised on Bonnie that says a lot! Thanks for introducing me to this band. 🎉🎉🎉

Midnight In Harlem is a song that, once heard, will haunt you forever - it can't be unheard! I can't wait for you to review that one, Sebs! Also, this band has the most talented backing singers!

There is so much lore around this group. Derek Trucks alone has a richer blues history than most living artists.

Sebs, love your commentary during your explorations. I’m an old country and blues guy with a little old school 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s rock. Several of the guys I played with back in high school went on to make their living playing with blues, country and jazz stars of the 70’s, wish I had half of their talent and abilities. Sold my old horn ten years ago to a dude that was looking to replace the same brand glad it’s gone to a much better set of chops playing around the NOLA music scene.

I heard their song "Made Up Mind" on my local radio station in 2013. That's how I found them. Their genre doesn't lead them to the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. That's why you haven't heard of them. Great vocals and guitars!!

The flute solo is the thing that stood out to me when I first heard it. I had been a fan of the band for sometimes before that, so I was well aware of how amazing Susan and Derek were. Watch the Live on Etown version of Midnight in Harlem if you want to be completely blown away. comes in at exactly 8:00.

Saw them in DC back in February and again last week in Maryland. To say they were tight and amazing is an understatement.

Derek is the greatest guitarist alive. He has been great since he was a little kid. Every time I haven't listened to him in a while a and i hear him again end up listening to Derek Trucks for hours.

Here's a little story. I went out one evening in 1987 in Columbia, SC. A guy asked me if I came to hear the phenom kid guitar player from Jacksonville playing that night. Told him no I didn't know anything about him and wasn't staying long. The 9 year old kid phenom turned out to be Derek Trucks. Of course accompanied by his adult circle.

In 2007 two seperate groups toured together, Derek Trucks Band and and Susan Tedeschi's band. The tour was called the Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival. It took time, but the couple merged romantically and professionally, touring together as the new Tedeschi Trucks Band in April of 2010. Thier first record, Revelator was released in 2011 and won a Grammy award for best blues album. The rest, as they say, is R&R history. Just a few of many must-listen suggestions: Midnight in Harlem, Bound For Glory, Anyhow, and Darlin Be Home Soon. They did a wonderful cover of Etta James classic I'd Rather Go Blind at the White House for President Obama and Michelle in 2012 that is worthy of a watch and listen. Also, I just love some of Susan's solo stuff, pre TTB, such as It Hurt So Bad and Rock Me Right. Thanks for reacting, nice rabbit hole to jump into.

Hey Sebs, I quit listening to the radio 25 years ago. But I found a replacement with you tube videos, then with music video reactions about 5 or 6 years ago. I found you about 6 months ago and you are my favorite. Your reactions are so genuine, authentic. Susan, pronounced, TA DES KEY, had a solo career, Derek also had his own band and played for 15 years with the Allmans. Him and Warren Haynes, you saw him Joe B.. They were the two guitarist until they disbanded. Susan opened for the Allmans and that's where they met. They are the most amazing live band period. Only listen to them live. They have many videos on you tube. Midnight in Harlem, Don't let me Slide from E Town are great. Bound for Glory from Atalanta. I Want More from the Beacon. That's just a start. I walk on Gilded Splinters. Susan does The Sky is Crying, blues tune, you get to see play solos. Check out Hurts so Bad from Austin City Limits, unbelievable. It's from like 25 years ago. I know you started on the Allmans, try In Memory of Elizbeth Reed.
