My ex was this way and when I would have restraint with how much of myself I would invest in him he would get upset and tell me not to hold myself back. Then proceed to carry on with operating his rollercoaster. I never thought of him as a bad person I admired his good qualities, but it took time for me to realize that he was not a good partner for me and proceeded to get off the ride.

Yes!! Just dealt with the relationship type. He was affirmative, passionate, romantic, all of the things, but out of sight out of mind. I'd go days hearing from him. But when he would text it would be something passionate like, "I can't stop thinking about you. I miss you. I need to see you right not." What the hell?! You can't stop thinking about me? What do you have locked-in syndrome where you can't move your fingers to communicate? Please!! I kindly brought this to his attention a couple of times, heard excuses back from him about work and "dopamine detox" and then gave him the boot. Intimacy resistant.
