I was so shocked when a friend treated me that way. I was not looking for a romantic relationship with her. And she was extremely nice the first few weeks, initiating conversation, sharing personal issues and all. But after that she started getting cold. It reached a point where I was the only one to initiate conversation and she would short respond me. I never had any romantic feelings for her but this kind of behavior has hurt me. Now I understand this sick game she is playing with me. The only option I have is to let her go because I can’t stand inconsistency even if it’s friendship.

I have a co-worker who has been hot & cold towards me all year. One minute, she will be very quiet around me & when I speak to her I'll get one word out of her all day if I'm lucky. Next minute, she will yell out 'hello' to me with a big smile & want to talk to me. I one minute feel like we are friends then all of a sudden I feel like we are strangers. I texted her the other day telling her how I was nervous because of having to go to hospital & most friends would text you back to check on you right? Or even just to see how it all went right? He got me to fall for him and then later says he just wants to go be friends instead, then it started showing how he is a Rollercoaster of whatever he says or does he will change his mind about. You imagine stuff" or "Look at you - all you do is complain. What a negative person you are" or "what's wrong with you? You just pick at me for no reason!" Or "don't start a fight!" Yeah right, they are going passive-aggressive on you and you try to clarify the situation and ask them politely why they are suddenly in a bad mood and for that they blame you for "starting a fight" and call you "picky" or "selfish" or "insecure"! But caught in the moment you'd feel guilty, asking yourself "Am I starting a fight for no reason? Am I selfish? Am I insecure?" That's how they gaslight you into doubting yourself.....
