yeah the heel hook is dodgy one, such a great move and of all the leglocks its the easiest to get, but it so risky because it's so effective, i tend to aviod using it in training, just because well i trust myself to not apply to fast, i'm always worried about how the other person will react, as no of the people i roll with are realyl that into the leg lock game.

Onus is on both people to freeze once it's in. Very choosy about who to roll with when heel hooks are allowed. Not with guys who hunger for VICTORY.
@Mutex50

Another problem is that there is lag time between tapping and when the ref pulls the opponent off.

from competing? Age has little to do with it if you didn't want to tap!!!

Its not that i feel its a move that should be illegal for the simple reason theres no warning on it and when you feel something its too late and its an injury your out for close to a year
@theworldisfullofsnowflakes9546

@@jonmoris9354 Nah shouldn't be illegal Kimuras are pretty dangerous as well. I know Lachlan says you have more time to tap and its true but I have very tight shoulders and sometimes I have to tap very early otherwise I could get injured. I really hate shoulder locks. Thing is, if you don't compete you can always roll no heel hooks etc so that solves that problem. For competing, well it is usually only legal for higher level competitors so if you are competing at that level you have: 1. A good understanding of BJJ and can defend etc 2. Are willing to risk injury in higher level competitions So if you really want to avoid heel hooks it is simple: Stay in the Gi or ask your opponents to roll without them And Don't compete or compete in Gi events without heel hooks :)

Would you say the same thing about wrist locks? That there is a very little time between attaining the grips/control for the submission and applying sufficient force for damage. I am not arguing that an injured wrist is equal to an injured knee but the principle of insufficient time to tap seems similar.
@randomguy-wz5ud
@randomguy-wz5ud 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you have little space but think about how much unpredictable movement there is when your arm is pinned away from your body. And how much unpredictable movement there is in a heel hook situation. It's very risky for less experienced practicioners so i agree with the ban on white/blue belts. P.S. still a white belt and this is just my common sense and accidentally allmost hurting my sparring partner ON MY FIRST PRACTICE by just grabbing his leg while rolling (his thumb allmost got stuck against the ground so it was like an accidental chest and floor heel hook (i'm not a dick, just wanted to stop him from getting my back while going to my back))(no problem with wrist locks)
@oreocarlton3343
@oreocarlton3343 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it doesnt affect the bigger joint. Standing wristlocks arent subs at all but are standing breakages since there is no time to tap.
@LC-hv1qn
@LC-hv1qn 4 жыл бұрын
I use wrist locks which take time to apply or as a way to break grips or change positions. Fast wrist locks are just dirty and people will stop rolling with you.

I stopped going to BJJ because amongst other issues (laziness and acoholisn) there were too many people who groaned when you asked them politely to not do heel hooks on you in rolling. Seeing as I'm not going for an MMA fight any time soon and if I do compete, will do it only at blue belt, I don't see what the problem is. I've dodged street fights for over seven years, I'm hardly likely to get into one with a BJJ or MMA fighter. The vast majority of those trained in martial arts have at least a modicum of self restraint and I know there are sociopaths in every walk of life and arguably the scariest human being on this planet is a trained sociopath, I'll happily live life by the law of averages of not coming across these guys.

Do a video on how to defend against Z guard and how to defend a fully locked in saddle or honeyhole position. Throw in some drills that we can work on to improve our Z guard attack/defense. Maybe some flow movement drills, the moves are cool but Id like to know how you guys counter moves or counter counter other ones.
