The Wolverine is finally here! Eddie Cummings and Digitsu came together to film an extremely candid and eye-opening seminar focusing on the mechanics of the Ashi Garami - Leg Entanglement System. The objective of this seminar is to provide the students an immediately usable understanding of both the submission side and the escaping side of the Ashi Garami. Eddie's breakdowns are extremely detailed and methodical. If you are looking to get a deeper understanding of the Ashi Garami - Leg Entanglement System, this is the place for you. At 57 seconds the video accidentally switches from inside heel hook to outside heel hook. Editing mistake

they are actually the same heel hook. what happened was that we switched left and right leg. I was a rookie mistake on our part.

im 4 years late but you are wrong. its an inside heelhook (you can see the inside of the foot), that he defends and turn his heel to hide it.

this is not inside ashi garami. this is inside sankaku. Inside ashi is when the opponents leg is straight and does not cross your body. but its a inside heel hook defence, (inside heelhook cause you can see the inside of the foot)

Alot of idiots in the comments haha. It's not risky. It's an escape that works if you follow the mechanics correctly. Heel hooks are not scary if you and your partner know what you are doing.

hey dummy all the "idiots" you are talking about are saying it's a risky escape in competition where the guy all over your heel is an opponent and not a partner.
@MichaelPhillips-jw4bj

Well I asked John machado what to do in situation like this (in a choke)long ago . He gave an escape but said remember this is like trying to block/slip a punch when its inches away. Better to start defending a while back or not even get here, but if you do use this. That position starts in a sub man. Yeah the escape works but you should be getting tapped most times. With the way heelhooks work your playing with fire in comp. So many super black belts have fallen to the inverse heelhook its crazy. Obviously these guys know how to escape and it didn't work. Not to say its not gonna work(its a good escape) or you shouldn't try, but know there's risk involved
