My nephew actually likes to dress up like a cowboy. He likes the tv shows like Lawman, Gunsmoke, Wells Fargo, The Rifleman.

Great video, Michael! Another reason why I think comic book movies are dying out is just because of how we’ve had them shoved down our throats ever since 2009 when Iron Man came out. Most of us are just burnt out from them by this point.

I don’t think the burnout is due to it being superheroes-I just think the choice not to keep Tony Stark, recasted, as well as other heroes, was a terrible idea, to begin with lol. I think most people can get around recastings hahah. Thanks for watching!

I have a lot of thoughts on this topic but I’ll divide it up into segments here. First and foremost, adult horror has been healthy since around 1996 when Scream kinda saved the genre from straight to video. In the past 30 years, there’s been numerous waves of films like the Post-Scream slashers, early 2000’s haunted movies, the birth of the golden 3 horror franchises in the 2000’s, up to the remake craze of the later 2000’s, and the new requel/art house craze in modern times. Unrated/Rated R horror will have its hits and misses - you can find a gem like Dark Harvest on Apple TV that is better than mostly any horror movie that hit theaters in the past 5 years. Or you can have a Halloween Kills/Thanksgiving that brings back what made slashers fun again, in the theaters. The problem is - Hollywood doesn’t pick the good fun ideas that end up in Apple/Netflix/Shudder and role with cash grabs and over budgeted garbage. Or even they choose to promote the overrated garbage too. PG-13 horror is getting a lot these days. M3GAN, Imaginary, Tarot, etc. And while they mostly get shat on - there is some good movies out there. The problem I’m seeing is that PG-13 horror feels like it should just be R rated most of the time - as it isn’t quite kid friendly enough to be PG-13 but it isn’t scary/too tame to be regular horror. Which brings me to kids horror: kids horror may as well be dead. You want to know low budget? Watch Spirit Halloween The Movie or Zombie Town. Two PG-13 movies that probably should’ve been PG, or at least they feel like how I think a PG movie to be. The problem here is kids horror is pigeonheld to formulas to drive in box office results. Goosebumps 2015 using the Jumanji formula has made it next to impossible to create those charming classics we saw on Disney Channel back in the day. You can even translate this to modern kids horror in places like Disney Channel too. It sucks for the most part. I’d be rolling in my words once I see Sony or whoever studio pick some kids horror book - Goosebumps/knockoff idc, and say “we are gonna make it a scary PG-13 adaptation of this book”. I think studios like Blumhouse/A24 are the poster child’s for playing in the horror gimmick and really being the main two we get movies from aside from Warner Brothers/New Line, or Universal. I’d argue that horror won’t ever hit Avengers Endgame/Top Gun Maverick/Barbie numbers at the box office, but I do see a scenario like the 1980’s happening again where each studio starts pumping out Ip’s. Let’s be honest - FD is coming back, SM is coming back, BW is coming back. ED has been back. We just got confirmation F13 and Halloween will live on, Chucky is out there churning. Scream has been back as well. All these examples kinda show me that the real answer to this topic is not if horror will be the next trend in Hollywood, but if Horror franchises will topple over things like the MCU, Star Wars, etc. Because horror movies have been around since the birth of cinema and there’s never been a decade where they died off minus the 90’s kind of when thrillers became more prevalent. They are the cockroaches of the film genre, and action movies are the octopuses (the two animals that will inherit the earth if an apocalypse happened). Horror and action will survive longer than Superhero/Western movies. However - like most genres, horror suffers from similar ailments that Superhero fans have been suffering from as well. They make subpar films that upset fans, or even piss them off. If the tide can turn and horror keeps putting out consistent quality like Cobweb, Dark Harvest, Thanksgiving - I’m gonna pay and support the genre in the theaters. And I always will since I’m lifelong fan. Great video Mike!!

Damn, man, I don’t even know where to start hahah. First off, excellent response-and thanks for watching! Second, I agree for sure that horror has been alive, even through the nineties, but I think I’d disagree with Scream saving horror. I look at it more as the case of now, with stuff like Guardians 3 and No Way Home being the exception amongst either generic crap or just crap-crap, you know? Plus we had things like X-Files throughout the 90s, and that traumatized a lot of people like myself 😂 Third, I hope, too, that horror takes back the spotlight. We just need new monsters and new reinvigorations of old concepts, just like the westerns sometimes have. Terrifier, to me, proves that not everything has been done. Thanks again for watching!

The next Hollywood movie trend is actually going to be video game movies, following the success of Mario Bros, FallOut, and The Last of Us.
@strangemichaelhorror
@strangemichaelhorror Ай бұрын
I think people think that, and I understand WHY they think that, but the videogame trend won’t work as well for the older generations like something horror, western, or comic book-based, in my opinion. As much as I loved the Mario film, I don’t think it’s a sign of that genre taking over-alongside the rumors that Last of Us will be following the second game’s Joel fate. I can’t stand LOU, so I won’t even spend time watching that show, and I think it’s too close to Walking Dead’s recent domination of TV for normies to be into it, after how embarrassingly long WD was (and still is lol). On the bright side, I do love what I’ve seen of Fallout, so far lol. But I still don’t think games will take the market. Mainly because there isn’t a massive chance to make sequels, or a massive chance for things like Heavy Rain to succeed (since it’s basically just a Thriller). If Silent Hill’s sequel does well, maybe we’ll both be onto something lol.

@@strangemichaelhorror I don’t agree. The older generation would definitely jive with some video game adaptations because the older generation /nowadays/ ARE the children who owned these old school games. Games like Legend of Zelda, which is getting its own live action movie. It’s a sense of nostalgia that brings people to the theater. Look at the superhero multiverse movies. Furthermore, the critics never /really/ give the love to horror movies that they deserve, (at best they give them a B+) and I doubt that’ll change anytime soon especially with the upcoming movie slate and how there aren’t many horror IPs. As for video game adaptations coming up, we have: More Five Nights at Freddy’s, More Mario and Sonic, Borderlands, BioShock, Minecraft, More Mortal Kombat, Tomb Raider, God of War, Death Stranding, More Witcher, Halo, Devil May Cry. Sure horror isn’t going anywhere… but following the success of recent video game movies and shows, Hollywood has green lit a massive amount of video game adaptations. If The Legend of Zelda does as well as Mario, I’m sure more big name production companies will try to rush and snag some Nintendo IP. I’d love a Kirby movie that includes themes of eldritch horror. EDIT: This does not include the upcoming “GAME” movies that aren’t necessarily video games. A Monopoly movie has been green lit. A Clue movie or series is in the works. I heard they were doing something with Uno? Hot Wheels too! And the Sims? (But that’s a video game lol) A lot of these are green lit because of Barbie’s success. Margot Robbie is even producing the Monopoly project.

@@ZURPHEN I’m not talking about forty and fifty-year-olds, when I refer to the older generation; I’m talking about elderly people lol. Grandma and Grandpa-the ones who were teens and adults before Mario and PAC-man came around lol. They won’t be able to attach themselves emotionally to these Mario movies the way they could, say, a Pixar film that has no previous connections to books, games, or anything. They could barely keep up with the marvel and dc movies, most of the time, and that was around before they were, typically lol. Also: I’d love a Kirby movie, too!

@@ZURPHEN My grandmother always did, before passing, and that’s about it lol. But the difference between horror and videogame movies, now, are that snobby ass teens don’t watch anything unless TikTok tells them to hahaha. So everything coming might bottom-out even worse than we’re wondering 😂

Agreed, completely, man hahah. But I also think it’d be a good idea to just recast characters like Cap and Tony, because those are characters people love, and I don’t think it would be impossible to find decent fits for them. That’s just me, though hahah.

@@user-jo4vg3jk2z I think the greatest three movies are easily Iron Man, then Cap: WS, and then Guardians, in that order. All three are brilliant masterpieces, in my opinion. I think Tony might be the greatest character in any comic movie ever, and not only due to Downy’s performance, but due to how much it changed the whole film industry. It’s started everything we’re seeing now, and Tony is the most fleshed-out character I’ve seen in a movie in ages lol. What’s your pick?
