Yeah, it is very irritating. All 4 Matrix movies including Animatrix are very rich and engaging to me and I personally feel like the sequels, although polarizing, were essential to the story and commentary that was being told. The sequels might not be great standalone films, but when you look at the story being told in it's entirety they definitely add to the philosophical and dynamic themes of the first movie. I think most people were expecting the sequels to be great action films, which the first one definitely was, and was disappointed that the action was dialed back so that the story and themes could be further expanded upon. I loved both aspects of the movies so as long as the new one is consistent with that I'm good.😂

The first one was surely better than the sequels but I don't get the hate against reloaded and revolution. They're still decent movies and add up to a great trilogy even though the plot was kinda dumb at some points like neo being able to use his powers outside the matrix or integrating supernatural creatures into the matrix universe (i actually liked this part even tho it's dumb)

Please correct the title. Hugo accepted the offer to reprise his role in matrix 4. Unfortunately, he had prior commitments and wanted to film afterwards. This didn't work out and he was let go in the negotiations. He wants to be a part of matrix 4. He accepted to reprise his role. So no, he didn't turn it down.

If filming had to wait for Hugo to shoot scenes with Keanu with long hair, then all of the scenes with Keanu with a shaved head would need to wait as well, which could have caused scheduling conflicts with other actors. So, it makes sense why the movie would continue on without him. Unfortunate.
