It’s a nice thought but that’s not the way it’s going down. Look around you. We are being encouraged to stay away from each other all in the name of “safety”. The next obvious step will be humankind being encouraged to retreat into the virtual world more and more until real human interaction gets lost along the way. It’s clear to see that that is part of the agenda. Then we really will have built prisons for our minds.

@@jermaineayivoh8263 I love VR but I'm also quite cynical and I'm with you there. I just have this horrible feeling that VR will be pushed to those in lower income households with the rising costs in living (low paying jobs, house pricing, food, etc) and the ever expanding gap in wealth. Do we reach a point in society that only those who are the richest of the rich will be able to afford to actually live while the rest of humanity is forced to seek pleasure in the digital world?

@@mrcraggle Like “Ready Player One” people in slums playing VR. That fear/scarcity mindset is only in our animal minds(conscious mind) but our human mind of love and creation(subconscious mind) is how we evolve,but those in power want us to stay in the animal mindset to control us. Neo is subconscious mind and Smith is conscious mind. See fear grows into evil,but really fear is a quesrion(what am I?) you’ll notice Smith always questions everything and doesn’t understand his own meaning. That’s what fear is. A lack of understanding, not your enemy,but your opposite looking for answers, as The Oracle calls Smith.Neo’s opposite.

True but at the same time she feels sad that she has to accept the technology that will come to pass, as it's inevitable. We can only hope it won't be as psychologically detrimental as social networks have been, perhaps that has been a kind of conditioning and hardening we need for the new digital reality revolution. Meaning we have to learn to treat this illness now that will become more pronounced in time allowing us to improve treating it with the progression.
@Wolfsheim232 жыл бұрын
@@jermaineayivoh8263 That's a paranoid exaggerated extreme. Only looking at the worst outcome as inevitable. Some parts could be true, and it will require lots of psychological treatment and there are real agendas in place to divide us and promote easy control, but it's not all in this one direction. Freedom VS Safety is an ongoing battle and there are strong battles ahead on both sides and will keep happening. Just don't give up and get too fickle or negative about it. Instead of a standard interview this felt like 2 friends invited over to another’s house for dinner, and then just hanging out and throwing around some questions and concepts for fun because they enjoyed each other’s company. They were listening to each other, answering seriously, and then half the fun was how absurd and tongue-in-cheek they could take it all. It’s the first time I’ve ever wanted to be invited over for coffee and conversation because these people are smart, fun and genuinely nice. They also have good manners!! @Nybbl er I agree, the Metaverse needs to be decentralized to function properly. There needs to be different gateways to get in. Kinda like email, you can access it through Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, Protonmail, or your own email server. That's because email uses an open protocol. Many people won't partake in the metaverse unless there is a way to log in privately through a proxy or be able to log in with your own server where you control the data. Giving Facebook full control of the metaverse will not work. Especially when major companies like Nvidia aren't building any of their metaverse apps on Facebook. They're using their own platform called Omniverse. Microsoft also has it's own platform. There will need to be an open protocol that connects all of these together. No company can control this open protocol for it to work

@HenIchaer2 жыл бұрын
@d R @d R @d R You didn't get the quote at all. What you said is the exact opposite. Beauty and aesthetics perhaps means something else to you, but that meaning is exactly shallow. What I regard as beauty is something inexplicable; it's what's in classical music and art, in a child's smile, in the sky when the sun goes down, in the amazing creations of the mother nature, to name a few. Beauty and aesthetics transcend superficiality. I don't care who said it; I appreciated it because of what was said. You talk about obsession and emulation, which are all superficial manifestations of something that has nothing to do with beauty. Lucifer was depicted as charming, but he didn't possess beauty. The idea of beauty isn't shallow; it's the ugliness and distortion of the viewer that makes it so. People generally condemn aesthetics out of jealousy, shallowness, and misunderstanding.

@@_JC_21 internet was created as a way for universities to communicate with one another and share data. It was more scholarly and no one laughed at that idea. Even before that more crude form of internet was used by the US Defense and Military use. No one laughed at that as well.

you know what? this interview makes me feel like this Keanu is a robot perfectly emulating a good human, and Carrie is the only one who knows of it.

Fascinating thought. Once you mentioned it the idea seemed to fit better and better.

I'm not usually a fan of The Verge, but this interview was phenomenal. Thanks for doing it.

I ❤️ Keanu's clarity on the harms that companies like Facebook/Metaverse are engaging in. Equally, I ❤️ Carrie-Anne's compassion for the real. To experience her family and her life experiences as physical. Not as digitized representation. I am passionate about tech. Yet, I loathe tech which adds to another's suffering or which diminishes someone's life experiences.

The admiration and respect both of them have for each other when one of them speaks and the other patiently just watches. It's just so heart warming.

I am a big fan of Keanu and I love to see how he contemplates with some optimism what is to come ... But Keanu ... it is very important to distinguish what is real from what is not. VERY! It saves lives to know that. It's not all a bed of roses.
