@Snail Monarch She has a relatively small parry window with each attack except for: thrust (the big lunge forward), kick, waterfowl dance, grab attack, spells (so her scarlet aeonia, summoned spirits and smash attack with rot explosion). However besides these everything can be parried, yes even the quick 4 hit chain can be parried right in the beginning. You'll know when you have parried her once you hear a swordclash sound (a tching) and you'll need to parry her 3 times to get a riposte in. Best parry shield is the buckler currently and I found that sideways slash you need to almost instantly press once she initiates an attack, while with her spin slash you need to wait until halfway done with the spin to press (on the buckler that is, other shield parries you need to act faster)

She was the only boss in the game to stonewall me, force me to call it a night and come back the next day. After beating Malenia I beat every single end game boss in under 10 attempts. The fight with her was so hard nothing was even comparable. Nothing following her is anywhere near as scary. I'd already been through hell. Still, it was a great feeling saying "fuck it," charging into her scarlet flower and racing to see which of us died first. Great boss.

I had this feeling in Sekiro with Genichiro. It seemed impossible, but that is where I learned the proper way to play the game. It was totally different afterwards.
@grimreefer2132 жыл бұрын
When she’s in her scarlet flower it’s best to throw kukris at her or some kind of ranged damage. Kukris are best because you can proc bleed and keep up the meter. Malenia beat my ass 30-40 times, but it was incredibly rewarding learning her attacks and avoiding them, climbing what seemed like an insurmountable mountain until I eventually beat her. She’s awesome, if she wasn’t so brutally punishing with life steal, 1700 ar grab attacks, 13 hit combos and waterfowl dance then she’d be the best boss in the game. Then again if she didn’t have all that then beating her wouldn’t be a legendary achievement. I’m looking forward to fighting her again in new game plus, she definitely demands a lot from the player and will be a brick wall for most players. Finally beating her is so relieving, i’m gonna try to parry her next time and make her my bitch, probably will get destroyed many times in the process.

Here's a man I can respect. Instead of being like everyone else, who say "you can only beat Malenia using this particular strategy" (usually, Bloodhound's Step to circle strafe her into oblivion, plus katanas), you accepted that you could do it by pushing your face into the meatgrinder at your own volition and not complaining. Just about everyone complains about her, but much like you were when you changed, those complainers come from a place of going against her in their first build, and expecting it to work because it's been working so far. Malenia is the actual skill check of the game. Is your build overpowered, or are you actually doing something right? In the first group, we have Katana Bleed proccers, which can be proved by Skooch almost first trying her first phase without even knowing how to go about with katanas. In the second, we have people that actually tested stuff (like I did, when I found out a single Freezing Pot drops her to the ground when she's using Waterfowl, because the Frost proc is instant, or that using an Albinauric Pot takes away her healing [seriously people, check out the crafting menu, sheesh]), or people like Skooch, that mastered a build that is nowhere near ideal and carried it to extreme heights. My man, if only everyone was like you. But people prefer the easy path, which is to complain that she's hard until someone else (FromSoftware) fixes (nerfs) her for them. Much like our boy Radahn.

Powerstancing colossal weapons is easy as long as you are running faith alongside strength. Then you get to use the insane faith buffs and wear heavy armor. Add Boiled Crab, Exalted Flesh and Bloodboil perfume to the stack and you can become invincible (with your defense stat going past 70) as you crush bosses with your super-buffed damage output. Even Malenia. If you use all the buffs that the game provides you and stack them properly, you can become the hardest boss in this game. Now add Mimic to the equation and you break the game into pieces.

Good on you, Skooch. Embrace the build you found along the path. Winning with what you have is part of the journey. As for Malenia, the fight vs her isn't bad once you learn how to dodge Waterfowl dance. It has three phases that each needs to be dodged a different way: Run from or-if you're in her face-block the first phase. Dodge into the second phase at the right time and it misses completely. Third phase she dashes in your direction but can't control the distance so you stand under her so she dashes away. Took me a lot of deaths to figure it out, but once you can see the pattern you can 100% dodge it. After that she's a very squishy boss that's weak to stagger and stance break. If she dances on your summon she restores a stupid amount of hp so it's good to dodge it yourself whenever possible.

My friend was already used to mouse and keyboard and was a god tier sniper at tarkov and hunt and he pushed me to make the switch and told me I would be better at my games for it. Fast forward 4 years later and I still love using my controller for every game no matter even if I have to use xmodder to make it work like when I played early hunt showdown. My greatest claim to fame was when I played MW4 and killed him using the 1911. Every other gun he and other mouse tryhards could kill me easily but if I had my loadout. I wouldn't need nothing but the big iron on my hip.

So I'm a Dex build, and I interchange great curveswords and katanas depending on scenarios. I never checked what was the most op weapon against Miquella, after dying a bunch of time with double great curveswords I just naturally went to River of Blood and a mimic tear +10 since she was so god damn fast and vulnerable to bleed. She barely had time to place a single attack and I laughed my ass off when she died because of how ridiculous the fight became. Now the victory was sweet on the moment, but seeing everyone shit on River of Blood and saying it's a cheap weapon makes the aftertaste kinda bittersweet... I played the game blind and went for Katanas/dex weapons on Elden Ring because I cleared Dark Souls 1 for the first time with Katanas only. I'm scared to share how I killed Malenia because I know I used a super powerful weapon, but not because it's super OP, but because it falls into my playstyle and I love the look of it. I wish I could stop caring about what the community thinks but as a somewhat new Souls member (Only completed DS1 and a part of DS2), I don't want to be considered the noob who goes for the meta weapons because I suck. I use the Bloodhound's Fang because I like curves greatswords, and they scale with dex. I picked up Morgott's weapon because of the same reason. I don't know, guess I needed to vent this out.
@Mogrir2 жыл бұрын
As someone who's been playing mostly pvp in these games since Dark Souls 1 hit PC, you're better off ignoring the community. Yes, some stuff is straight up stronger than others, but it's always been that way. Remember that there is a difference between "I used weapons that I liked that I later found out were meta" and "I am going to use these weapons because they are meta and strong." FROM not being able to balance their content on release isn't something you should feel bad about. At the end of the day, if you can make it work without cheating, then it's working as developer intended.
@HeavensBane532 жыл бұрын
As a diehard souls veteran (for what little that's worth) I'm here to say you are completely valid, and this is coming from someone who has been allergic to katana wielders since ds1. A lot of the souls community is super elitist and will flame you for using summons or cheese tactics or op weapons but honestly doing that goes against the spirit of the games. They've always been about playing however you want and using whatever method brings you victory (even sekiro which only allows one build). The games offer sizeable challenges and numerous ways to overcome them BECAUSE the developers want you to be able to do whatever is fun to you, so if you beat the game and had fun doing it that's all that matters.

The _minibosses_ in Elden Ring definitely left a lot to be desired, and I'm convinced some were thrown together by interns at the last minute (Cemetary Shade in the Black Knife Catacombs, and the twin Pumpkin Heads in Caelid come to mind). The _major bosses,_ however, were among my favorite of any FromSoft game. Each one felt like it came straight out of Bloodborne's Old Hunters DLC -- they were right at home with Ludwig, Maria, and Orphan, with how much health they had and how lengthy their attack combos could be. I adored it, frustration and all.

@suruthebeast40652 жыл бұрын
Right here is the problem with ER - it punishes you more than any other game for using an off meta build. Heck even with meta builds the best strategies are to exploit broken mechanics like the old Hoarfrost on the godskin duo, or just using the mimic (both which have now been nerfed). It was genuinely my favorite fromsoft game till I defeated Morgott and now it's already uninstalled and I wish I could refund it because I had more fun doing a lvl 1 Bloodborne run (as a low skill tier player) than I did during EVERYTHING after that point. I'll stick to bloodborne lemme know when they make something as good as that because ER isn't it. (BIt of context I beat Orphan of Kos on that lvl 1 run... he was (debatably) the hardest soulsborne boss until Elden Ring came out and now half the bosses are bullsh*t broken mechanics or worthless 2+ v 1s)

This is the first game I've played where a boss says "You will witness true horror" and fucking MEANS it.

not gonna lie skooch, I did the same thing bro. Hit the Melenia wall with my colossal greatsword Guts build and after a couple tries I respec'd to another build. But all while playing with the new build, I felt like I had betrayed Guts. So I asked myself" what would Guts do?", so I went back and changed to my old Guts build then proceeded to watch the episode in Berserk where guts kills 100 dudes to get my hyped up. After many tries I finally won, and it felt good persevering as Guts . It just takes guts to be like Guts

Yasss I finally had my dream of punching enemies realized! I couldn't get my previous fist builds in DS1 & DS2 to be as strong as I hoped so I gave them up. But with bleed + fists I am racking up damage, I love my current build so much I opened up a map to find as many bosses as I could because I wanted to keep playing it.

I love this video. I love demon souls, dark souls, bloodborne, code vein. Games that all have a similar dark souls mechanic when it comes down to leveling up its so nice to see someone just do something they love for their build rather than what's meta or whats op my man skooch chose fun I think alot of people need to learn from this. Yeah he walked off the deep end for a bit but it didn't make him happy though. Skooch I'm glad you came back to your pantsless bulky jumping heavy weapons playstyle highlight of my day today.

Switched from a uchigatana blood build to a strength, int build with radahns great sword. Now im having fun pulling and exploding half of every bosses health bar with one spell :)

I used colossal weapons too for the fight I used Maliketh’s black blade and mimic I think if u have enough strength u can flinch Malinea and time my attacks. Also using two hands for a weapon give its 50% more dmg

I broke in ER too. Didn't switch up my entire build, but I swapped to the same bleed Katana you did. Never felt the same beating the game for the first time with a build that I knew was busted af. Regretted it eve since.

A leveled Rivers of Blood will now forever serve as a reminder of when you felt at your weakest. But the bonk sticks will remind you of your true inner strength. Forge on fellow Tarnished.

Anyone knows how upgraded his weapons are? I was the same level and did more damage with a 2handed Blasphemous Blade. The only reason I can think of why he deals no damage is lack of upgrades

Ah, that is a leason i learned long ago, perhaps when playing a similar game like ninja gaiden, a feeling which was more pronounced when i started playing AD thresh.

I learned this lesson in Genshin Impact. I own a lot of characters and my two favorite to play are Noelle and Klee. They aren't "optimal", but damn are they fun to play.

Yeah, I was legit stuck on her for 2 weeks, FOURTEEN DAYS. I was a pure dragon build, all breath attacks, dragon weapons. I switched to rivers of blood and full tank, upgraded it to +9 from 0, beat her 1st try.
