Matt Powell grew up in a Christian home in Durand, MI. As a child, he struggled with his faith in God due to being continually challenged by the teenagers on the bus route to church. Some of them didn't believe in God, but they would come to church just for the treats and the friends they made. Matt ended up becoming agnostic at a very young age as a result. His parents had issues with him as well. When he was 11 years old, his parents introduced him to the Creation Science Seminar Series by Dr. Kent Hovind. Dr. Hovind's work brought Matt to an understanding of the truth of God's Word. One week after listening to the Creation Series, he went to a tent revival at Antrim Baptist Church in Fowlerville, MI, and heard a powerful sermon by Jason Kendrick on salvation. Matt trusted Christ as his Savior after the first service of the revival.

Sports fundamentals and religious fundamentals are very, very different. Especially, when it comes to sportsmanship and understanding the varying idiosyncrasies of either one. Here, perhaps, is a fundamental lesson you have learned but have yet to put in to practice. I could take this as you explaining reading the Bible as an ability to read the rules to look at life and the afterlife, and undertsanding basketball rules as an ability to compete for an hour. I get what you're going for, microcosmically, but it detracts from the point you're trying to make from anyone reasonably smart.

Someone who was persecuting me once admitted that they liked Christians but not "my type of Christian". I understood that what they were saying is that they didn't mind all the lukewarm (or perhaps lost) Christians they knew, but they didn't like that I was a hardcore Bible believing Christian, actually trying to live by the Bible. I'm not so sure about the title "fundamentalist". People have turned it into a negative slur "fundie" and have started to call any professing "Christian" a "fundie", so it's losing it's meaning.

I agree that the term fundamentalist has been weaponized. Because in reality, everyone has a worldview that they dogmatically adhere to. So in truth, everyone would qualify as a "fundamentalist" but they use to as an attack only against theists (usually Christians) when, in reality, research shows non-theists are actually even more dogmatic. So I just call myself a Biblical Christian. Someone who actually adheres to the worldview taught in the Bible.
