Why I am NOT an Academic Wildlife Biologist: What Other Career Paths Are There

I am going into my 8th and second to last semester of undergrad right now. And I've been thinking hard on whether I want to go to grad school and if I want to do a research masters or professional masters for the past 18 months. I would say this video has help me push closer to deciding on a professional masters over a research masters more than anything else I have seen.

Hi! Super interesting, also love your surroundings! I am orientating which study to do, I come from the Netherlands. Studying is quite affordable here compared to many other places, but I don't feel as interested in The Netherlands and doing field work here. So I want to consider going to another country, but I don't want to do University. In NL we have different levels of degrees, university being highest and most academic, I prefer more practical outdoorsy work. But it is very hard to find the place for me, the study path for me (I am not sure if that form of learning is really for me).

What are your thoughts on government jobs with departments like fish and wildlife or the forestry department? Would you consider them academic in nature? From my understanding they tend to have a lot of field work positions. Even if there’s a position that’s a senior biologist position I think those jobs tend to focus less on the academic writing and more on budgeted conservation and restoration projects
